Questions & Answers

What makes this different from the premium matt varnish? Is it the same thing?

The AV Premium line is a water-resistant line that is completely safe to use. based, non-toxic, and highly versatile airbrush ready paint, suitable for all surfaces but especially formulated for superior adhesion to metals, fiberglass, polyethylene, clear Lexana polycarbonate, slot car and RC bodies, and all tuning and automotive applications br>The Premium line is made with micronized, permanent pigments and a high-performance, exterior-grade hybrid resin. The base is made of polyurethane. While it was created for use in an airbrush, it can also be applied with a regular brush. br>The Model Color line was created with models and miniatures in mind. Model Color is designed to adhere to plastics and polyesters and can be used on a variety of surfaces. Model Color's consistency results in a paint film that is extremely smooth and uniform, with no brushstrokes visible. br>The Matte Varnish is a water-based acrylic varnish with a new, fast-drying formula and an acrylic resin with exceptional hardness and durability. Dust, scratches, dirt, and humidity are all protected from painted models. br>How noticeable the differences are depends on your project, preferred painting techniques, and level of painting skill. Quick tip: Use the Premium Varnish if you'll be using an airbrush or the finished product will be handled frequently. If the project is extremely finely detailed, uses refined painting techniques, or is primarily intended for display, Model Color Varnish is what you should use. However, both are excellent products with a wide range of applications; it's difficult to go wrong with either.

Is this something you'd use with an airbrush?

It can be used as a palette or an airbrush.

After airbrushing the german gray color on my military model, I want to protect the color. Should I varnish it with a gloss or a matte finish? thx. ?

Both will provide the protection you require; however, you should select one based on the desired effect. Since you say it's a military model, I'm guessing a dull varnish would be better, but that's up to you; I'm also assuming you've finished painting. The varnish is applied at this point.

Is there a way to change the glossiness of a pre-made figure to matt?

yes.

It's as if there's nothing there at all
5/5

It's almost as if it's not there at all. It's easy to apply and looks great. A comparison of the three varnishes can be seen in the photos (left to right: (matte, satin, and glossy).

I'd suggest diluting it slightly and applying it very thinly
5/5

So far, this has worked well, but I think I would have preferred a few more instructions on how thick the varnish should be. I thinned it down quite a bit because it came out fairly thick and white right out of the bottle, and I was afraid that applying it that thickly would result in the milky residue I've experienced with sprays. Overall, I prefer this to sprays because it gives me a little more control. I'd suggest diluting it a bit and layering it on in very thin but numerous layers until you get the desired results.

It's of good quality, but it's a bit on the expensive side
5/5

I used two coats of this Matt Varnish (wish Vallejo spelled it Matt Matte) to seal a miniature figurine, letting the first coat dry completely between coats. To me, the varnish appears to be transparent - There are no brush strokes, no blurring or darkening of the paint job, and the dried texture is unremarkable, allowing me to handle my miniature without smudges or flaking. br>br>Although the price per volume is higher than other varnishes, other reviews and forums persuaded me to buy it. Because I paint tabletop miniatures, I can justify the price. If I were to paint armies in large quantities, I might switch to a different brand.

This is an excellent acylic topcoat
4/5

This is a good acylic overcoat that can be thinned to make it last longer, which is especially important if you're airbrushing. The problem is that if you thin it down too much, it won't be as "matt. " I'm not going to go any further than 50/50. Because the lacquer spray will melt the enamel wash, I must use this over it.

BE EXTREMELY WARNED
3/5

I purchased this because I don't have easy access to an outdoor space where I can apply spray varnish or sealant. Unfortunately, this is a poor substitute. Even after a lot of thinning (1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6, 7, 8, ANY POOLING WILL LEAVE A WHITE MARK ONCE DRIED (approximately 4). Minis' feet and bases are particularly susceptible to this. I made a point of wicking away excess after application, and you should, too, but you'll almost certainly miss a spot or two, resulting in ruined shading or detail. I'm going to make an extra effort to figure out how to go back to spray varnish; it's the only way to do it properly.

Vallejo Matt Varnish is a high-quality medium that can be used to dull colors or as a pigment fixer
5/5

It also serves as a finisher for your model's final stages. If I need to change the color shade of miniatures I'm working on, I mix it with a citadel wash and airbrush it on. However, I would only use a small amount or thin it out. If you just smear it on, you'll probably lose a lot of the detail you've worked so hard to achieve.

The matte coat is fantastic
5/5

Great work on the painting. I am completely enamored with the container. I usually work with citadel paints, but I always have to add water to keep them from drying out. This issue is solved with these eye dropper bottles. br>br>Initially, I was concerned that the matte would flatten the colors too much, but my fears were unfounded. It prevents them from having a glossy sheen, but it does not change the color. br>br>This is unquestionably a top-notch product. product of high quality.

Overrated unless you have bad eye sight or you are a masochist
3/5

60% of the time clouds at least part of my shading. Even when there are no leftovers in the sharing areas for 24 hours, it still messes up. br>br>Army Painter anti-shine is happy to be back; Unless you want to be a chemical engineer just to avoid having your miniatures clouded or frosted 1/4 of the time.
