Questions & Answers

Has anyone attempted to pick these locks as a practice lock?

These are ridiculously simple to pick, especially when raking and zipping attacks are used. The most significant disadvantage of this pack is that all of the locks are identical.

I'd buy a three-pack if I were you. Is it true that I'll be getting 6 keys in total? And all six keys are compatible with three locks?

The hardware store is the last place anyone wants to go. During COVID-related events, stand in line to get in and to have your key(s) made. 19 Especially if you're over 65, have a compromised immune system, or have both! So, how many keys do you get in a three-pack? Years ago, I purchased one of these locks and received two keys.

Is this large enough to fit in a typical school locker?

Although it will fit, this is a low-cost option. a lock for safety If you don't have anything valuable or important in your locker (like textbooks or electronics), it's fine, but there are much better locks (e.g. Master Lock 185d) that can be used in a standard school locker.

Selected User Reviews For Master Lock 3DLF Long Shackle Padlock, w/ 1-1/2 Inch. Shackle

Beginner lockpickers will enjoy it, but the rest of us will be disappointed
3/5

I bought these locks to practice lockpicking (Master brand locks are some of the least secure), and they worked perfectly! These are for you, if you're a beginner: )br>br>DO NOT BUY THESE IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS LOCK THINGS. The two most significant flaws are as follows: 1. br>br> If you breathe on them, they will open up. I've included a video of me unlocking all three with one pick in less than 30 seconds (just minutes after receiving them). No special tools are required for an ambitious youngster to open these with a hairpin. If you're going to the trouble of purchasing a lock, make sure it locks everything up. If I'd had a hairpin at the time, I'd have recorded it for dramatic effect: pbr>br>2. pbr>br> There are insufficient keys. Many people said they only got one or two keys for their three locks, according to the reviews. This is due to the packaging, which allows the keys to easily slide out. As a result, you may only have one or no keys, which you must return. If you have a hairpin, however, this isn't an issue:.

I'm looking for my keys, but I can't seem to find them
4/5

The locks themselves are well-made and of the quality that Master Lock is known for. They function properly. BUT, because there is only one key to open three locks, I reduced the price. That means I'll have to pay nearly $5 more to get a key for each lock at the local hardware store. It's not right for Master to believe that the multi-tasking is a good idea. Pack locks are designed to be used by one person only. When you purchase a lock, it should come with a key. each and every lock.

Deceived
3/5

I purchased this set of three locks with identical keying to replace locks that only had one key. In the event of a LOSS, I wanted a backup key. I placed my order based on the following section of an Amazon advertisement: "INCLUDES: "br>"INCLUDES: "INCLUDES: "INCLUDES: "INCLUDES: " Two keys for three padlocks Both keys open all three locks"br>When I first opened the package, I only found KEY. It was large enough to fit all three locks, but there was only one spare. br>I contacted Masterlock and placed an order for replacement keys using the code stamped on the single key. br>The issue has been resolved. I had to pay an additional $11 in addition to the original price.

However, they are adequate for the purpose for which I require them
3/5

This three-pack of Keyed Masterlock padlocks is well-made and will clearly accomplish the task at hand. But. I've got two issues with this product, both of which are related to the key. To say that this key, as well as the mechanisms of all three locks, are stiff would be an understatement. It's not too difficult to get the key in and turn it to open. But getting the key out is a lot of work, and I mean a lot of work. Now, these locks are brand new, so hopefully the mechanisms and key will break in, so it's not a deal breaker. The second issue, on the other hand, is more vexing. You'll notice that I've used the word 'key' several times in the preceding paragraph. In the singular, as in This three-lock set only comes with ONE key, which is not my fault. Seriously, a couple of spares would have been worth a buck or two more. Now I need to go to a locksmith and have them fixed. br>It's a minor annoyance, but not providing me with at least one spare key is a cheap move on Masterlock's part, and if this is how they do business these days, I'll look for a different brand the next time I need a padlock(s).

Under 20°F, it froze up
3/5

I purchased these in May to replace a 30 year old Master lock on my shed that had held up well but needed to be replaced. The new lock performed admirably and was easy to operate. Until it dropped below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, that is. Because there had been no rain in several days, the lock was dry, and I had opened it the day before. When I tried to open the shed, the lock was frozen, and I couldn't even get the key in. When I tried it again the next day, it had warmed up to around 30 degrees and worked flawlessly. I threw it out and replaced it with a better lock right away. This lock is ideal if you live in a hot climate. Avoid this at all costs if you live somewhere that gets cold in the winter and need a reliable lock.

When used appropriately, it is beneficial
4/5

I'm a new lock picker, and I needed a padlock with a longer shackle to secure some tools because I have a young nephew who insists on using tools without permission or supervision. br>br>Why do I say I'm a novice lock picker? Despite my lack of experience, I can pick this lock open in less than a minute. Picking the lock open isn't difficult at all. So, while the lock feels tough and capable of withstanding cutting and grinding attacks (I don't think drilling would be too difficult), I wouldn't use it to secure highly valuable items on its own. br>br>However, it works perfectly for one of my toolboxes that is kept indoors with this lock to keep my nephew out. So, when used in the right situation, this lock will suffice; however, if you need to secure high-value items, make sure to use other security measures in addition to this lock.

They're acceptable, but there are probably better alternatives
3/5

These were purchased to go on the gates of my fence. There are no problems with them fitting standard fence gate latches. They also remain locked, which I suppose is the point, so that's a plus. However, I've discovered that they're extremely difficult to use. The keys don't always go in and out as smoothly as I'd like, and the locking bar can be a pain to remove and replace. I'm not sure if it's because we live in a rainier climate that they don't handle the weather well, but they're not as smooth as they could be. Is it safe to say that they have successfully locked everything? Without a doubt. Is the user interface pleasant? No, it isn't. I believe there are probably better options available, but these will suffice.
