Questions & Answers

Do I have the option of installing a few dead bolts using this?

The answer is yes, I have installed over 25 deadbolts with this jig without a single issue

Do you think this will work on a bi-metal ?

It is not possible to open the doors in two directions A metallic material. It is bi-lingual Several types of metal are used in the construction of the hole saw cup. The cup itself has one type of hard metal and the saw teeth have another type. To keep the teeth hard without making the cup brittle and hard, this process allows the cup to have the teeth hard without making the teeth brittle or hard. In this case, the saw is perfect for cutting metal

Is it possible to apply this to an aluminum ?

I am not sure why you were not able to. The cutting blade for metal needs to be different from the cutting blade for wood.

Could someone please tell me how I can find a door lock installation kit (jig) that allows me to drill for a 5inch backset deadbolt? Thank you! ?

Review of this one will tell you why I do not recommend it because it is problematic

The following is an easy way to lengthen the life of a As a result of this, & Plastic is also used in all the ones like it It might be more effective if you use it You can use it to mark where the holes need to be drilled

Through just getting the hole started using the jig, I was able to remove a bit of If this jig is to last for several doors & windows I need it to be durable Your translation will still be correct. A good thing I like about this jig is how it clamps There should be an additional arbor in the package. To remove the hole saw blade from the arbor, you will need a pair of pliers or a screwdriver. The process will have to be repeated at least once for each Those who work in the construction industry can stop reading now. Here are a few more tips for the rest of you. Jig the machine in the correct position. In addition to measuring the height of the knobs in your house, measure how high other knobs You should also take note of the size of the hardware you have The jig should be the same distance as the rod. These days most knobs can be adjusted to either size, and there are only two main sizes. Please check for yourself before clamping the guide in place & using it Mark the two spots where you need to make a hole. You have the option of removing the guide now or keeping it in place, and you are completely responsible for that decision. Make a hole and begin to drill. When you start with a larger hole, it will be easier. If you are going to cut a larger hole, be careful to not cut through the backside of your Stop drilling the center drill bit as soon as it penetrates the opposite side of the door. the hole saw blade to align the blade at the center of the hole from the opposite side of the door & Once the hole is finished cutting, close it up. Continue from the same side and you will end up with a rough, jagged, or beyond repair hole in the door as the blade tries to push through the nice finish. The small hole should be cut at the end. The one on the left can only be cut from the left side, & Even if the opposite side of the hole can be seen, it would not be visible. must be sure not to lean your drill or tilt it as you work. A misaligned hole will result at the very least as a result of this, and A damaged finish on a possibly wasted door is the worst that can happen. Odds are, if any of this sounds foreign, you should stop and call someone who is familiar with the rest. You still need to set the hinges and finish inside the door. In addition to striker plates, It is important to hang the door correctly. I think that would be much more difficult than cutting Congratulations! Good luck with your project!.

The purpose of this is not to make existing holes bigger
3/5

Replacing a broken deadbolt with a new one cost me a couple of bucks. Due to the bigger hole required by the new deadbolt, we needed a bigger hole of 2 1/8". As much as I was hoping this tool would help me increase the hole size, it is NOT designed to do that and instead will move all around (no matter how hard you clamp it down) effectively having the hole saw move all around the door, making a pretty mess in the process. There is no way to clamp this device with sufficient force to hold it This is done by using a pilot drill (centered within the hole saw) to ensure the hole saw does not move. If there is an existing hole, the pilot drill has nothing to drill into, so it will hinder, not help, your project. Make your own wood jig instead - it should give you an accurate depth, as well as allow you to drill into any existing holes. It can then be drilled into, then the door can be drilled into. In hindsight we see more clearly.

If you think this is all the template you need, think again
3/5

I discovered my own template made from plywood works better than any of these available. The clamp does not grip the door very well, and while drilling it vibrates or moves a lot. You can clamp it on very tightly with the plywood template and it does not move around. All I care about is my money.

This was an excellent DIY product
4/5

I got good results from it. Since my doors do not fit the "standard" thickness (1 3/8" or 1 3/4") in which other jigs operate, I chose it over the other (less expensive) models because I needed an automatic centering feature to drill the bolt hole. This jig helped me to enlarge (by about 1/2 inch) a previously installed lock hole which was too small and too far away from the edge of the door. that by using the jig I would be able to enlarge the smaller hole without having to drill into anything because I would not be drilling into anything with the pilot bit. In addition to cutting the holes for locks in two new doors, I used the kit to cut the cover plates on a couple of old This product is an excellent light-duty tool, an option that is well worth the cost and cheap when compared to the way the prospect of having to replace a door that was messed up due to poor drilling is viewed. As I walked down the street - The product got a 1 out of 10 rating. Also, I thought the clamp was a little too flexible when bumped by the hole saw in use (as it almost certainly will be) and would have benefitted from an even stronger clamp system (larger When using a jig, you need to tighten it well, start with slow drill speeds, pause and re-set it if necessary As with all the other similar Amazon products, you'll need to tighten the jig if it gets bumped and moves and to take your time. The jig is made of fairly sturdy plastic with metal screws, as other similar products on Among the other products, one is more likely to be a better purchase if you only work on door thicknesses that are the exact two standard.

I was impressed with its efficiency
4/5

To four new interior doors, I had to add hardware. To assist with my own research, I picked up this task that I had never done before. The program did its job fairly well, but the following are some concerns I have 1 -

2. Hope you are able to get the big hole saw off before you switch to the small hole saw. As far as I was concerned, it was a nightmare. In addition to the listed issue, I also ran into the same issue on the internet. I'm inclined to think this boils down to a general hole saw issue, but it cost me significant time. The shavings that resulted from completing a hole were usually black. I have no idea what longevity is based on these, but I know they are from the jig. Although, if this is what you do for a living, you probably have something that is far more robust. Considering that it could be the last four doors that I do this on, it won't matter too much. I still found it to be extremely helpful despite all those things. All of my holes lined up perfectly, and I had no trouble installing my hardware.

Purchase a Lenox Saw if you don't already own one
4/5

One thing about the kit is that it is VERY good. In addition to the two round saws you insert into your drill, they also give you an adapter that you can use with either blade so that ONE rod goes I DON'T CONSIDER IT A GOOD As long as the adapter is attached to the blade, it is next to impossible to remove it from it. As such, I bought two separate Lenox saws for the drill (the same size, of course) and they easily fit into and out of the drill. The use of a single adapter for both blades is shocking. br>Must be used with separate hole drills if you're going to purchase them separately. ADVANTAGES OF THE ADAPTER DO NOT USE IT.
