Questions & Answers

Is this a product from the United States of America?

Taiwan is the place where the set is made. For those unfamiliar with Far Eastern industrial history over the last 70 years, here is some crucial information. Taiwan is China's equivalent of South Korea's relationship with North Korea. They are not the same country, they are not governed in the same way, and they have very different industrial manufacturing histories. Taiwan has specialized in high-quality tools for decades, much like South Korea does now with smart phones and televisions.

Is it true that these are manufactured in the United States of America?

Taiwan, on the other hand, is unique. Higher steel standards and tighter tolerances than 20 years ago's low-cost imports. As an example, I showed one. For your convenience, I've included a photo. On the right, channellock.

What kind of material is used to construct the case?

The tools are kept in a metal case with a plastic insert.

Is this metric or standard? The photo appears to be standard, but the technical details indicate that it is metric. ?

THE 36162 IS METRIC, and I have one in my possession. The 36161 is a 16-bit processor with a 16-bit address. SAE/Standard fractional sizes (per pc).

Taiwanese design! Make sure you don't throw your money away! This product is made in Taiwan, as shown in the bottom right corner of my photo! I'm disappointed that I had to spend money on these useless tools just to find out where they were made! I went through the Channellock website and watched their deceptive videos claiming that their products are made in the United States! That's nonsense, and I'm well aware of it
3/5

I even asked the community, and they confirmed that these were made in the United States! So, if you're looking for an answer, don't look to the community. This set was well worth the money I spent on it. I could have bought a complete SAE and MM set from Homedepot, which would have been guaranteed for life. I'd return it, but it would be too much trouble!.

It will have to suffice, according to the boss
4/5

If I could, I'd give it four and a half stars. If it were up to me, I would only purchase tools made in the United States. Unfortunately, my wife is fond of reminding me that we do not have an unlimited tool budget. Darn. lol. As a result, sacrifices must be made for the items I know I won't use very often. These are some excellent instruments. I'm not even going to include the phrase "for the money. " It's just that they're useful tools. This is a substantial collection. Beautiful chrome, superb machining, and a silky smooth ratchet. Every socket and bar have a small amount of knurling, which I really appreciate. This is a very solid, heavy set. There's even a metal box to keep it in. I wish Chanellock made all of their tools in the United States, but I understand that this set would cost three times as much. Oh well. It's from Taiwan, and it's a lovely set. br> I would strongly suggest it. I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Like the case, like the sockets, there was enough room to add the last few items I needed to finish my set
5/5

Excellent value for money. Pretty good kit, and it's currently half the price of the similar Gearwrench 80327 set, which is my personal favorite, despite the fact that it only has a 6" and 2" extension and no swivel extension; This set includes a 3" and 6" extension, as well as a swivel that functions similarly to a 1. 5" of additional length Both sets have spinner handles that double as an extra extension due to the 1/4 adatapter in the end of the handle, which is extremely nice, though the grip on the spinner handle in this kit is probably the cheapest feeling in my hand, whereas the Gearwrench is the nicest. All the pieces snap together positively, so no complaints there. I read some reviews that the sockets fit loose, but my set is fine and the sockets seem true to size. br>br>In terms of Some people were surprised that they skipped the 12, but that's because it's a size I rarely wear, whereas the 13 is worn on a daily basis. The Gearwrench set omitted the 13 shallow in favor of a 14 deep, which seems far more dubious in my opinion. For the Gearwrench set, I keep a 3" extension, a swivel adapter, and a 13mm short socket in the box, which I end up fishing out almost every time I use it. If I jimmy the contents around just right (because the set was designed for a long ratchet and you only get the short now), I can just close the case. The only thing missing from this set is a 12mm socket, but a short will suffice. I ordered a 12mm short, 14mm short, and 15mm short socket, which fit perfectly in the finger slots beneath the ratchet, spinner handle, and extension. This is a simple fit that elevates this kit to the next level; I wouldn't have considered putting a 15mm in a 1/4 set if it weren't for the fact that I have both the mid length and swivel sets from Gearwrench in my garage tool set, which come in handy. br>br>This set's metal case has both positive and negative aspects. It's actually quite small, at least in comparison to the 80327, though I suppose it could be even smaller. It's quite sturdy, and everything is clearly labeled, which seems a little excessive. The insert is made of hard plastic, and I believe that a softer foam would be preferable because it would not rattle and would be easier to remove. The latch appears to be the case's biggest flaw; it's brand new right now and works fine, but it appears that this will be the weak link; it doesn't give me a good feeling. br>br>The ratchet is the only other place where the quality falls short of my expectations. It's a push-button retention ratchet, which I don't like, but it works well and securely holds the pieces. It's a 45-tooth ratchet, and while it's far superior to, say, a Craftsman raised panel "candybar" ratchet, the mechanism is still a little crispy, and the selector switch, while solid, is a little difficult to engage in one direction. I'm going to take it apart, clean it, and reassemble it because of the exposed fasteners. Fill it with super lube and see if I can't get those things sorted out, but if not, I could replace it for a reasonable price with a Harbor Freight professional ratchet or a parts store 72 tooth ratchet; in comparison, the Gearwrench 84 tooth ratchet is my personal hands down favorite ratchet (and I have or have used pretty much every ratchet there is), but it costs nearly the same as this entire set. The ratchet in this set is fine, but I could do better, and I'm sure I'll think that every time I use it. br>br>Overall, this is way too much text for a set like this. You can't beat the price, and if you're looking for a small set to keep in the car, you could do a lot worse and spend a lot more money to do better. Because I'm putting this in a second car so I can have some tools in case of an emergency, I increased the size to 15mm. This will be the only socket set for this vehicle, which I'm fine with. Now I just need to find a good deal on some decent wrenches to complete the set.

Revision: Where has the 12mm gone? It's hard for me to believe
3/5

Revision- I'd like someone to explain how Channellock was able to leave 12mm out of this set. Because 12mm is so common, it's extremely aggravating. br>br>I HAD to buy a 1/4 drive metric set because my craftsman 1/4 drive set had gone missing. I'm not going to use my MTB with the 3/8 drive any longer. In many ways, this is an outstanding collection. The sockets and driver are of excellent quality, but the toolbox in which they are packaged is frequently overlooked. This is a real toolbox with a lid that prevents everything from spilling out on the floor if it is accidentally bumped. Someone, at long last, understands what's going on. Tools appear to be either cheap junk or aimed at professionals who rely on them for a living. With this tool set, everything is in working order, and I am very pleased with my purchase. BTW- Craftsman is noticeably superior.

A fantastic tool set in a fantastic case
5/5

These are made in Taiwan, as stated, but Taiwan is also home to some of the best tools, including Tekton. It's far superior to anything made by the Chinese. These have modern designs, and it appears that Channelock (an American company) designed them and had them outsourced to a reliable Taiwanese factory. They have a precise ratchet movement, are well polished and fitted, and the case is fantastic. This kit has a lot of weight to it, and I doubt you'll find a better deal for $38. I'd love a Made in the USA set, but there's nothing under $100 without Craftsmen. Although Channelock only manufactures wrenches in the United States, they do take care of the warranty. br>br>These are made of hard steel, which is ideal for applications requiring a lot of torque. The ratchet is quick release via a button, which is inconvenient but consistent with German sets. br>br>Overall, I think these are fantastic.
