Selected User Reviews For IRWIN QUICK-GRIP Bar Clamp, One-Handed Clamp/Spreader, 24-Inch (1964720)

It's unquestionably a cost-effective purchase
4/5

So I went out and bought two. I needed a set of 24" Irwin quick grip clamps for a larger project that required clamping, and I don't often need a set of this size. On the basis of price alone, I purchased this item. I do own a smaller size from another brand, but everything about these screams cheap and shoddy construction. They worked fine and I'll use them again, but if you need serious clamps or frequent use, spend more and get more. I was disappointed because I have a few other Irwin products that aren't cheesy. However, based on the reviews, I had a feeling the quality would be poor. Those who report problems should be believed, while those who give glowing reviews must have nothing to compare it to. I gave it a four-star rating because it was less expensive and completed the task. This would be a two-star review if I had paid the ostensibly "list price. ".

These handy clamps helped me repair a broken kitchen cabinet door! I wish I had purchased these a long time ago
5/5

A kitchen cabinet door had split in two and I needed to replace it. I used two of these clamps to hold the assembly together after glueing it together. They're simple to use: open the clamps to the desired width with the release lever, then tighten the clamp onto the work with the tightening lever. When you're finished with the project, simply press the release lever to release the clamps. The clamps can also be used as spreaders, which is a nice feature. The fixed end clamp head is simply released from the bar by pressing a button on the fixed end clamp head. Re-attach the clamp head to the bar by reversing it. Slide the clamp grip off the bar, then reverse the direction and slide it back onto the bar, using the release lever on the hand grip as a guide. Clamps come with only a small cardboard information sheet, which you can remove by unscrewing the rubber head of the clamp, removing the paper, and reinstalling the rubber head.

I received three clamps that were missing their heads
3/5

I purchased two clamps at first. One of the clamps was missing its head (the top part of the clamp that can't be used without it). I sent back the broken clamp and placed an order for a new one. The new one I got had a missing head as well, so I returned it and ordered a fourth clamp. The fourth clamp worked fine, but I had to place three orders, make two separate trips to UPS to return the broken clamps, and was charged a restocking fee after returning the broken clamps. This process did not meet my expectations, and I will not order from them again.

Very strong
5/5

I was hesitant to buy these for a long time because of the price, but I kept running into situations where the spreader feature would have come in handy, so I finally gave in and bought them. Now that I have them in my hands, the cost appears to be much more reasonable. These are much more durable than the older 12" and 18" versions that I have. The bar is thicker and has an I-shape. The plastic parts are made of a much tougher plastic than the beam profile. br>br>The spreader feature is exactly what I expected it to be, and it's simple to use. However, I was initially perplexed as to how it worked: Instead of removing and flipping each piece, simply move the fixed arm to the opposite end of the bar. It's simple to do, but it hasn't shown any signs of coming loose on its own. Irwin, you did an excellent job. br>br>Another nice feature is that the pad on the fixed arm has a switch: It can be locked parallel to the other pad, or it can pivot a small amount in either direction to improve grip when clamping something that isn't perfectly square. br>br>Now that I've tried them, I'm pretty sure I'll need at least one more pair.

What would I have done if I didn't have these? Because they were on sale, I purchased a set of four clamps
5/5

I had some old metal screw clamps that my father had given me, and they were always "good" for clamping. I received these and immediately began using them whenever I worked on anything. They're incredibly light and quick. It's simple to use with one hand and it holds up well. They're like the second pair of hands I've always wished for. Invest a few bucks in these if you're still using old, heavy clamps. You will not be sorry.

For medium pressure, it's quick and simple
4/5

When I'm working alone, I like to use the quick grip clamps. It provides a quick and easy initial clamp for holding things in place while I set up my traditional bar or pipe clamps. I've had a few of these for years and enjoy them, so I decided to add to my collection by purchasing another. While the clamp still performs admirably, it is noticeably lighter and flimsier. Because I'm afraid of breaking the handle on this newer model, I'm not squeezing it as hard as I would on the older one. With the old one, I never hesitated to squeeze as hard as I could. This is still a fantastic product, but I'm not convinced it's as reliable as previous generations.

This is a piece of junk made in China
3/5

When I took it out of the box, the handle snapped and fell apart. I had no idea plastic could shatter in such a way. I threw the box, along with everything else, in the trash. I'm sick of receiving garbage from China. I will never purchase another Irwin tool.

A fantastic product! This item came in handy when I needed to spread out patio chairs in order to insert the tension bar
5/5

It slipped a few times, and a lower-quality product might have cracked, but this one held up admirably throughout the project. The weight of the item indicates that it is of good quality, and I had no worries about it stressing under pressure.
