It was difficult to close a 13 gallon trash bag due to the thin wire gauge. The wire gauge isn't mentioned in the description, so it's difficult to tell. br>br>The gauge isn't as thick as it was the last time I bought it.
I was about to return the item because it was too thin, but then I had the brilliant idea of making masks out of hepa filters, rubber bands, and wire that I could pinch over my nose. It's not ideal to tie up my vines, but I can always use them for something else.
I ended up leaving them on, resulting in a permanent bottleneck in the vascular system of my flowers! br>br>Only use if you are a responsible and conscientious individual.
I gave one star because I received a related product in three days; I'm hoping this isn't the start of a new Amazon trend. br>br>There was a bit of wire extending out of the rim when it arrived, and the spool rolled nicely on the first attempt to get wire out of it. However, as soon as I cut the wire, it became tangled and kinked. Why on earth didn't the manufacturer devise a method of guiding the wire from the spool to the cutter? I threw it in the trash because it was all tangled up by the time I finished! br>br>I've been gardening for more than 30 years, and I've never seen anything like this. It's not something you should buy. Instead, look for gardening wire on a winder that you can trust to work properly. The cutter, on the other hand, did work once.
Because it's almost entirely made of plastic, it doesn't hold its shape and is extremely difficult to work with if you do decide to use it. I'm not one of those people who is picky about new product smells, but when I unwrapped this, I couldn't figure out what this disgusting odor in the room was for the next hour. Finally, against all logic, I took a sniff of the roll of cheap plastic twist ties. I was on the verge of collapsing when I realized what had happened. This stuff stinks so bad that I can't even describe it. Don't buy it; it went straight to the trash, which went outside; don't buy it. It's the worst kind of garbage you'll ever come across.
For years, I've used green twist ties on a spool similar to this one, but I needed black twist ties to keep black chew-toys secure. For rabbit and other animal control around my raised veggie garden, I attached proof hardware cloth to black metal fencing. As I worked with this black twist tie material, I noticed that the vinyl covering over the wire inside was much thinner than any other I'd used before. The wire itself is quite durable, but the covering over the wire is prone to shredding and coming off. Twist ties are designed to do just that: twist. The wire works fine, but the covering doesn't. I'm not sure how well the covering will hold up over time, and I was poked enough three times while working with it to draw blood. When I used other brands of twist tie rolls, that never happened to me. This is something I will never buy again.
This item was practically useless. It was wrapped so tightly around the drum when it arrived that unrolling it was impossible without dismantling the drum, which resulted in a large, tangled mess. The tie material is of poor quality, and the wire's black sheathing can be easily removed.
We use this to reduce stress on my plants. It's a great product that holds up well in water, and it's simple to remove when you're done. It's basically a twisty tie from a sandwich bag.
