I bought this because I needed a second ladder hook and I already had the excellent previous version (same price) that was made of steel with only plastic trim. I still use the older version, which was very durable. I was disappointed by the light, cheap-feeling build quality of this new all-plastic version. The new version is underwhelming in terms of value. br>br>I installed the new hanger next to the old one, and while it appears to function properly for the time being, it does not appear to be very sturdy. I don't think I'll be around for very long. Please, Little Giant, bring back the old model.
My wife gave me a Little Giant ladder for my birthday a few years ago, and I've been using it to lean against the garage wall ever since. I had been looking for something or brainstorming designs to hang this ladder up for a couple of years and kept coming back to this storage rack. Every time I decided not to spend the money because the price was too high, and every time I looked elsewhere or came up with a different way to hang the ladder, I came to the conclusion that those things are simply too durable to trust something that wasn't designed specifically for them. I finally bought this hanger as one of the last things I did. This winter, I cleaned and organized the garage/workshop, and one of the last things I did was purchase this rack from Amazon. I'm glad I did because it allowed me to get that ladder out of the way while still allowing for easy access. Sturdy ladder rack that fits most Littler Giant ladders and easily installs into studs.
In this case, I believe I received a 5-star rating. For $30, you can get a $20 bracket with a star. It's sturdily built, but not THAT sturdily built. It's nothing more than a molded piece of plastic. br>br>Good function and finish, decent overall construction, high price. br>br>I just wish they would have made me feel like I got a good deal instead of trying to make me happy because I got something with their name on it.
If you have a multi-position ladder, it feels solid and is, in my opinion, the best option. I looked at plain hook options, but most of them couldn't support the weight of my gorilla ladder, so I'd have to store it horizontally with multiple hooks. This product made it possible for me to store it upright and was extremely simple to set up. Because I live in a Lennar home, my studs aren't 16" on center (or evenly spaced), I knew I wouldn't be able to anchor into studs on one side. Instead, I anchored into the stud on one side and used two 1/4" toggle bolts through the two layers of gypsum on the other. The toggle bolts were slightly larger than the hole, so I had to bore out the holes in the mount to get them to go through, but The ladder is seated in the holder with two of the four rungs in place, and it does not appear to be easily dislodged; however, to be safe, I am adding a safety strap to keep it in place. This is something I would strongly suggest.
This bracket's design secures the ladder and makes it easier to put on and remove than other bracket designs I've tried. It's also low-profile, and the bracket is sturdy enough that I haven't noticed any significant flex. This, in my opinion, justifies the higher price. I've only used it for a small giant ladder, so I'm not sure how well it will work with other brands.
The little giant will love it. I experimented with various ways to hang our ladder in order to avoid paying the price, which I believe is a little high for what it is. But, in the end, I gave in and bought it, and it's perfect; it securely holds the ladder and supports its weight. This was done very well by the designers. If you need a way to hang the little giant, buy this and you won't have to waste time looking for a shortcut.
The spacing of the studs in the garage's corner was not standard. I had to make a wood adapter plate from scratch. If this bracket had a way to mount to non-standard stud spacing (house was built in 2001, but this can happen anywhere), that would be a plus. Even if your studs are standard, this bracket will prevent you from chesting if you are particular about where you want to exit the ladder. br>br>In the event of an earthquake, the ladder will undoubtedly fall off the wall. br>br>I was hoping that for a name brand, they would have included a few useful features in this bracket.
It's extremely sturdy and perfectly supports the ladder. br>br>It was fairly simple to set up. Simply mark the spot where you want it to go, locate the studs, level it, drill four holes, and secure the screws, and you're done. br>br>However, I believe it is overpriced in comparison to the cost of the ladder, and it should be closer to $20 rather than $30. But it's the only way I can work on this heavy ladder with this mount.
