Questions & Answers

Is it possible for this product to stay in place on a ceiling vent?

Yes! My recliner is equipped with a vent. The air was perfectly deflected once I placed the deflector on the vent. I'm very pleased with this product; it only took me less than 30 seconds to adjust and install it on the vent!

How can I be certain that this vent cover will not melt due to the heat? The description makes no mention of heat-resistant plastic, which is why some people's are melting. thanks?

The problem is that people are connecting it to wall heater vents, which have the heating core right there. People who say they haven't had a problem most likely have central air, which won't generate the high temperatures needed to melt it. You're fine if someone else has it. Although this response is nearly three years late, I am leaving it here in case future shoppers are misled.

To what extent does it go?

16”

Would this work with a regular air conditioner, such as one installed in a window or wall?

Yes, I use this deflector on my wall-mounted air conditioner for that purpose. I just used strong Velcro strips in place of the magnets. One strip of Velcro was attached to the sides of the deflector, and the other strip was attached to both sides of the vent on my AC unit. It works great and can be used with almost any type of deflector when mounted in this manner.

Depending on your setup, it may or may not melt
5/5

a summary for those who have read the melting comments. for the tl; if you're looking for a unique way to express dr crowd: Yes, it is effective. It is an air redirector. Furthermore, the magnets are powerful enough to hold a wall register in place. But here's the thing: here's what's going on. The heaters used by different people are not all the same. I live in an apartment with two registers, one in the living room and the other in my bedroom. Unlike "central heating," all of my air is delivered through this single register. This is significant because the temperature of said air must be significantly higher than air that is distributed throughout the house via multiple registers. br>[I feel compelled to respond to the idiotic remark that "this melted and my heater is only set to 65 degrees. " No. The temperature at which your register heats up differs from the temperature at which your thermostat is turned on. The average temperature in your body is 98 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is 6 degrees. If that were true, the air would feel cold to the touch. That was a stupid remark. ] ANYWAY, I measured the temperature of the air coming out of my register, and it's a whopping 280 degrees. If it's made of polycarbonate plastic, it starts to melt around 297 degrees, so I can see how this could happen to some people. And as I stood there watching, I noticed some minor warping, so I went out and bought some heat-reflective spray paint. I'm not sure if this will help in the long run, but it's worth a shot, and it does look nice next to my register. So, I'm not going to dock the seller any stars because if your heater reaches 290 degrees, pretty much anything will melt, but it would be prudent for them to include the temperature information in the listing. To be fair, the listing does state that it is only for *central* forced air heating and cooling.

The layout is poor
3/5

It's not well-designed. It's convenient because it can be adjusted to fit a variety of vent sizes, but it has two major flaws. The first is that none of the damper adjustment arms will fit through the slot on the side that is provided for the louver damper adjustment. It's a useless slot because it's so small and thin. If you can make the slot a little bigger, the magnets will be on the inside of the rim of the wall plate, resting on the vent fins, and there will be insufficient surface area for them to grab onto. The magnets come in second. They're so flimsy that they can't keep the unit in place and it falls off. Due to the weak magnets, even when placed on a flat metal surface such as the refrigerator, it simply slides off. These problems, in my opinion, could have been avoided if the issues had been addressed earlier in the design process. These are something I would never buy again.

Horrible, if not outright awful - Purchase is not recommended
3/5

I was ecstatic when it arrived because I knew it would completely transform my life. I wouldn't have to read on my iPad while lying in bed with the sheet over my head. Wrong! br>br>First and foremost, this is less well-made than the worst dollar store toy gun I've ever purchased for my son, which broke in 10 minutes. It's made of flimsy plastic, and adjusting the length causes it to pop out of its track, forcing you to force it back down. I'm surprised it didn't break in the process. The magnets will then not stick. br>br> My vents appear to be metal, but they are either plastic or have a plastic coating, in which case they would not adhere. Isn't that fine? I'll simply screw it into the ceiling because there are holes for screws. Nope, the screws failed to secure it to the ceiling, and it fell out. This item should hopefully be returned. br>br> What a rip-off: these jerks probably spent 3 cents on materials to make this garbage and then robbed unsuspecting prime members of their hard-earned cash. A total of $11 has been wasted.

Design and durability are both excellent
5/5

Excellent work!! The designer air register was not magnetic, but the register's screws were, and the magnets were strong enough that I was able to temporarily attach it to the screws alone. After running the air for a few minutes, the product naturally fell, but surprisingly, it did not break or crack when dropped 8 feet onto stone. I permanently attached this to the register using the screw slots in the deflector, and it looks great! So, even if you have a magnetic problem like I do, you can use the side screw slots and everything will be fine.

I've melted completely! Only 65 degrees Fahrenheit was set on my heater. It's not a good idea to purchase it.

This type of product is a pass/fail for me
3/5

Pass is indicated by three stars. The item is an airflow diverter, as the name implies. It is held in place by magnets on both sides, which are strong enough to hold it in place but not difficult to remove. Your vent should be made of magnetic material, according to another review. Mine is made of aluminum, which is not magnetic. Another person suggested using Velcro to get around the problem. br>I did it to see if I was happy with the product before replacing it with a steel register. The Velcro held up well, even if it did look a little cheesy. There were no appropriate registers in any of the big-box stores. br>I determined that I didn't require a new register, but rather a magnetic surface. There were four large steel washers that were discovered. I picked up some picture hanging supplies as well as a couple of Velcro mounting sets. Hello magnetic surface! I attached these to the register and washers. I doubt you'd even notice them with the product in place. I've attached some photos. br>br>I used a piece of shipping tape to keep the size consistent after making a pilot mark with the product extended.
