I don't live near any pine trees, so I can't answer 0 on pine needles, but I keep my cover on all year because I have two large trees above my unit, and it definitely keeps out all of the debris, despite the fact that there is a small "net like" cover for air flow.

I cut six Xs in the condenser to increase airflow when it was turned on. When the condenser is turned off, they lay flat, blocking debris from entering, and when it is turned on, they open up, blowing the debris away. I'm hoping to win an award for design! : )br>I also secured the cover with magnets. Doesn't yank on the cover nearly as much. enabling the flaps I made to lay flat.
They're an invasive species that preys on the local tree frogs. They also climb into the outdoor air conditioning unit and inadvertently commit suicide by falling through or attempting to jump through the fan blades at the top. The kids are startled because the unit is right outside their window, and Cuban tree frogs can grow to be quite large. As a result, they get whacked by the blades and bounce off of them repeatedly, making a loud noise. The children are aware of the noise, which they find distressing. So, on the advice of our air conditioning technician, we purchased this device to prevent them from climbing into the unit's top. It seals off all possible entry points for the critters and is easy to install. I'm looking forward to not having to get up at 2 a. m. anymore. 30 a. m. by a crying child bereft of a tree frog's death.
We live in a forest in North Carolina, and the falling leaves and twigs are soothing our minds. The four bungees that come with the cover are used to secure it. We're running the units as usual, and there's no discernible performance difference. I'm a mechanical engineer with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
This will finally prevent debris/leaves from clogging up my air conditioner at a reasonable price. When attaching the bungee cords to the eyelets and the AC unit, I noticed that a few customers complained about the eyelets tearing off. br>I can see that happening if the bungee cords are overextended, which would most likely damage the eyelets. I simply ensured that the cover was secured with minimal bungee cord tension. All good! There's no need to be concerned about debris causing damage to the air conditioning system.
I bought it for obvious reasons, and I'm happy with how well it works. It was relatively simple to set up. I hadn't noticed until I was putting it on that one of the four sides was mostly solid metal, so I had to improvise on how to attach the bungee cord. When our HVAC company came by to perform the annual inspection, the guy said this was a good year-round cover option. During long doorman periods in the fall and winter, it keeps debris out, allows enough air flow, and allows excess moisture to escape. I've noticed some minor debris collect at the corners where the netting stretches less tightly over the side, but nothing that will get into the air conditioner. The unit was kept clear of any spring tree debris. Fall leaves are unlikely to be an issue.
What more could I say about a well-made product, an excellent concept, and at a reasonable price? This product allows for complete air circulation while also keeping leaves, twigs, and other common flying garden debris out. Will keep the water drain openings on the unit free and clear so that they can do their job.
My outside unit's Modern Wave 36" x 36" A/C cover was just installed yesterday. My unit is a SEER 18 and measures approximately 35" square on top. I needed a way to keep pine needles, pine "flowers," various leaves, and oak "flowers" from getting down into the unit, blocking the drain holes and rotting. The mesh on this cover appears to keep the pine needles out, but it could allow a direct vertical hit to pass through - maybe. The only way to find out is to wait. Everything else will, without a doubt, come to a halt. Over the round fan opening, the cover nearly covers the entire nearly square grill. Only a half-inch of the grill is visible, but the entire area above the fan is completely covered. The unit was turned completely off just before I installed the cover, and I used a shop vac to carefully remove as much debris as possible from the inside bottom while it was still dry. Air flow appears to be unaffected, if at all, after the installation, but I don't have access to an air speed tester to verify this.
To keep leaves, twigs, and debris out of the A/C unit, I previously used a piece of aluminum screen on the top of the unit, which was held in place with magnets. While that solution worked, the edges continued to fray, making a snug fit across the top of the unit impossible. This cover fits perfectly and allows for a little more airflow while still maintaining a tight enough knit to keep leaves, twigs, and other unwanted material out of the A/C unit.
