Chinese junk that has been rebranded. In the pictures, it appears to be quite appealing. However, when attempting to extend the shovel, the push button scrapes against the blade, causing it to become stuck. This would be even worse in cold weather. The powder coating is very thin and has the texture of a rough spray paint. The edges of the aluminum are jagged and uneven. There are kinks in the curvature, indicating a poor bend/mold process. Sand castles can't be built with snow shovels. Do not put your safety in the hands of this product. Amazon should be ashamed of products like this.
The handle is difficult to deploy, and it is useless in the event of snow or freezing, and it is not suitable for avalanche rescue. I returned my and suggested that light duty, warm snow digging be sufficient.
This shovel is ideal for the job. Despite its low cost of construction, it was able to withstand the abuse of scraping sand (and mixed in gravel) from the trail. Although the handle's expansion and contraction can be perplexing, it works. Yes, sand gets into the handle assembly and causes it to stick. This is taken care of by a thorough water rinse. Oh, and with the handle, it doesn't collapse to 13" (it's closer to 17"). The handle must be completely removed if you want it to be as small as 13". Overall, I think this is a good shovel to have on hand for occasional or emergency use. If you need long-term durability, however, you might want to look at something a little more expensive.
The buttons become stuck, making deployment nearly impossible without the use of pliers. You can put it in your trunk, but not your life.
I think it's a bit too light. If I put some more effort into shoveling with this thing, it appears that it will fold into hard ice cream like a cheap spoon. It squeaks, isn't secure, and YUKON is only half-painted. I suppose I shouldn't have expected much for $35, but this thing is a complete waste of money. Now I have to choose between returning it and keeping it as a backup. I'm not sure how this piece of garbage got to "Best Selling" status; perhaps people aren't using it, or perhaps people are so weak that it doesn't matter how thin the shovel is? What a disappointment.
In the cold, the button for removing the handle becomes stuck. It was square, which drew me in. br>It fits nicely in my snow science backpack, but the button does not stay in place. Adding to the workload by prying it inward to extend with my leather man.
I really like it, and I was able to use it to assist a fellow skier whose Volvo became stuck in the snow.
When you're in a pinch, this is a handy shovel. Between cars, it's great. For your car or truck, it's small enough to fit in.
