My friends and I enjoy going on adventures, and there have been a few times when I've gotten so engrossed in the powder that life became unbearable for an hour or so. This is something I bought just in case something like this happens again. It's flat and blends in so well with my backpack that I don't even notice it's there. My friend occasionally uses it as a seat.
It's small, light, and versatile, and it won't cost you a fortune. The best of both worlds: backpacking and winter sports.
I prefer my items to be brand new when I receive them, but it is acceptable.
It's very transportable. Ideal as a back-up shovel or in an emergency. This would not be a good substitute for a regular backcountry shovel. Smaller than expected, and shoveling with two hands on your knees is required. If the snow is firm enough, it could be used as a sliding saucer in an emergency.
The best part of this shovel is the handle. IS THE FACT THAT YOU ALWAYS HAVE IT! A shovel that is kept at home is of little value. This is tucked inside my pack and helps to shape it.
I haven't tried it yet, but it appears to be exactly what I'm looking for in a winter backpacking trip.
This is something I bought for when I go snow camping and need to clear snow quickly without getting my hands too cold.
