Questions & Answers

What size do you recommend for these?

That is exactly what I did: I followed the sizing instructions on the Derby website, and it fit perfectly. They'll be a little snug at first, but they'll stretch out and fit perfectly after that.

Would these make it difficult to grip the poles if I'm doing Nordic skating with poles?

Yes, I believe it would be unsettling. You could probably grip them, but the hard plastic covering your palm/wrist area prevents you from doing so.

Is it possible to skateboard with these?

Even though I don't skateboard, I'd say yes. They provide both protection and wrist room; I've fallen several times in roller derby and they've always protected my wrists.

Keep in mind that you will be unable to use your hands
4/5

Skateboarding was a big hit with these. I'm almost 40 years old, so I figured I'd benefit from this. When I fell forward while wearing these at a local skatepark, my hands shot away, providing no impact support, due to the lack of grip provided by the plastic inside the palms. So while gaining wrist protection you lose 100% ability to braise a fall with your hands you lose 100% ability to braise a fall with your hands while gaining wrist protection you lose I hadn't considered this from the beginning and thought I'd bring it up in case anyone else is thinking about getting wrist guards. This isn't a flaw with these in particular, but it is something that I believe users should be aware of.

Guards of the highest caliber
5/5

I am a 57-year-old woman who enjoys roller skating. On my skates, I do freestyle skating. I'm prone to falling, and these are my lifesavers. When I fall, neither the wood floor nor the cement on which I skate outside hurt my hands, and I also use the 187 elbow pads. It gives you a tremendous amount of self-assurance. Skating is huge right now, so brace yourself because you're about to fall. These are going to come in handy.

For men who aren't scrawny, even the "Large" is too small
3/5

Take my rating with a grain of salt; if you're a female roller derby player, this thing is most likely fantastic. I'm a guy who is learning to skateboard on the street. br>br>I'd probably give it a 4 or 5 star rating if they released a version that included man sizing and set up their sizing chart to accommodate it. Alternatively, if an XL/2XL size version of this is released. br>br>It appears that all of 187's clothing is one size too small for me. I'm a big guy with a big personality. Hands and feet that are in a state of disarray I have broad shoulders and a large chest, as well as biceps and killer calves, which could account for the majority of my sizing issues. br>br>I wear shirts in sizes M to L, and they fit me well (not baggy, but tailored). My shoe size is 12 and I am a woman. I'd size up to an XL or 2XL on everything 187 makes. I've never been able to find anything in "Large" that fits me. Because a lot of their clothing doesn't come in XL or 2XL, I've had to return two of the three items I bought. 187 claims unisex sizing on their website, which obviously won't work if you're not scrawny like tony hawk: br>br> If you have a higher-than-average IQ, you should use it. than- If you have a woman's hand-to-wrist ratio, their sizing chart will not fit you properly. br>br>I got it on my hand, and it was actually quite comfortable for a minute or so, but it was incredibly difficult to remove. br>br>The quality was outstanding. The stitching is excellent, the materials are excellent, the product appears to be of high quality, and the padding is thick and firm. For indoor skidding, the palm guard appears to last a long time (if not indefinitely). br>br>It doesn't seem like it would hold up to hill bombing on a longboard, and there is no back panel to the plastic, so it doesn't have great splinting action, so I wouldn't do street/transition skating on it if you thought you might slam your wrist, and if it had fit me, I would have returned it anyway because I didn't realize how important that last bit would seem until I tried it on.

You believe you are not in need of these
4/5

You are completely incorrect. If you skate as much as I do, these are a must-have. I never wore protective gear when I was younger. (Of course, it was the 1970s! )br>However, now that I'm in my mid-fifties, I'm more easily broken. > '(br>br>This has saved my wrists on a number of occasions. I bought these after breaking my wrist and hand in a bad fall; the only thing to keep in mind is that your hands will sweat profusely! As a result, after wearing them, be sure to let them air out completely. It's better to spink them in baking soda or spray them with lysol than to let them grow and die in your gear bag. If you look after your equipment, it will look after you.

Pros: There is no wrist guard on the back
3/5

These are well-made, fit well, and are a pleasure to wear. I got the small size and was pleased to see that they didn't stick out too much on my palm. (I'm a 5'1" woman with smallish hands that aren't tiny. ) What I didn't realize, however, is that while the palm side of the hand has a hard plastic protective splint, the back side of the hand does not. I've broken my wrist twice now, and I don't want to risk it again by using wrist guards that don't have splints on both sides. I was disappointed to have to return them, as they had checked all of my other boxes.

Wrist protectors that are the best I've ever seen
5/5

These wrist guards are far superior to ordinary wrist guards. They protect a larger portion of your palm and last longer because the impact is distributed more evenly over a larger area. These are also more comfortable than a standard wrist guard because they stay in place better. They're a little tricky to put on at first, but once they're on, they're perfect. These guards have a nice benefit in that they make sliding easier. Because of the wide plate, these can be used for hard turns, roller derby slides, and jam-free jamming. Skate dances or even inline skate slide tricks are all possibilities. These wrist guards will help you add new tricks to your repertoire while also protecting your valuable wrist. br>br>One disadvantage is that the plate has less friction on a coping, which makes planting on quarter pipes more difficult. So planting is still possible, but it will take some time to get back into the swing of things. But don't worry, you've got plenty of finger movement to make up for it. These are probably the best wrist guards you can get if you like to use them. They're inexpensive and last a long time. Get them now because they are well worth the money. Your wrists will thank you, and you'll be able to slide with the best of them in no time.

Not at all what I had expected
3/5

The product shown in the Amazon photo is what I wanted, but I received a different model of 187 wrist guard, which has a high-profile reinforced plastic wrist guard that sticks out too far for my taste. The item shown is low-profile and sits flush against the glove's palm. I used to have the low-profile version and loved it. The model I received is not the same as the one shown in the picture. It was disappointing.
