Questions & Answers

Do you have any recommendations for front and rear shock upgrades?

I have a Schwinn Ember (Sam's club version, same bike) on which I upgraded the rear shock to an Exa 382 coil with lock out 165mm eye to eye (750lb spring) and the front fork to a Rockshox 30 tk silver with a straight steered tube (again, a coil). It made a significant difference; there was no longer any pogo effect, and the ride was significantly better.

Will a 6ft 4in man be able to ride this bike?

Yes, I'm 6'4" tall and weigh 228 pounds. You ought to be fine.br>br>

Is it possible that the disk brakes are hydraulic?

They're not hydraulic disc brakes; they're mechanical disk brakes.

Is this a seven-speed or an eight-speed bike?

There are 24 hours in this day. Thank you for your patience while we update this information.

2ND PURCHASE AS OF MARCH 30, 2021! FedEx delivered the box all torn up with bottom flaps wide open and the box of pedals lying on the ground outside of the main carton, despite the fact that the order stated 3 day shipping
5/5

I was very disappointed because the bike had several deep scratches. I chose to live with it because I dislike returning items unless absolutely necessary. Aside from that, the bike is very nice for the price and, despite the slow delivery, I would have given it 5 stars if it hadn't been damaged. br>It was simple to put together, but it did require some minor tuning and rerouting of cables that couldn't be completely untangled. I also swapped out the skinny rock hard seat for a super comfortable TONBUX seat that almost matches the color (best $20 I've ever spent!). On the rough dirt and rocky mountain roads near my house, it rides like a dream; the full suspension and big 29" tires soak up the bumps and make for a very smooth ride. So far, I'm very happy with the bike's overall performance; it shifts quickly up and down, and the disk brakes are very effective. I weigh 185 pounds and stand 5'9" tall. I believe the bike can comfortably handle a rider up to 6'2" tall, but not much shorter than 5'8". I would strongly recommend this bike to anyone who isn't looking for a hard core, wide open downhill mountain trail bike. I'm confident that the bike can handle any trail at controlled speeds, but sustained high-speed downhill mountain trail riding necessitates a larger bike, i. e. brakes powered by hydraulics Better suspension, or spending at least double or triple the price of this bike; however, at under $400, it is a fantastic bike. br>UPDATE: I had to change my rating from 4 to 5 stars after several long rides on extremely rocky mountain roads and trails. This bike is so nice that it didn't seem fair to lower the rating because of the slow, inefficient FedEx service. br>18 MONTH FOLLOW-UP br>I'm a huge fan of this well-built Schwinn! I've put a lot of miles on it now and it's still going strong. There have been no issues, and the system is still working perfectly. A small amount of seepage can be found at the front forks, but this is to be expected. I've nearly worn out the tires, but only after many miles, the majority of which were ridden on rough rocky roads with no flats. This bike is a definite winner in my opinion. The current price is well worth it. br>UPDATE: MARCH 30, 2021 br>I recently purchased a second Traxion for my wife; she had to have one after borrowing mine. UPS delivered this one in excellent condition. The brakes and shifters needed to be fine-tuned, but this was a simple task. People who are having problems with their pedals or cranks are causing the problem by installing them dry and overtightening them. Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tighten them to just beyond finger tightness. They're threaded in the opposite direction of the crank rotation, so they won't back out, and they'll come out easily without seizing or galling if you ever need to replace them. For the money, this is a fantastic bike!.

3/5

I'm hoping this is an isolated incident, but my bike just broke after less than 4-hours of riding. 5 hours of use over three days (normal park trails, no extreme mountain climbing). The right pedal came loose while riding and won't go back in; it's as if it's lost its ability to screw into its socket (it appears to be a socket issue rather than a pedal issue). br>br>Until this point, I was pleased with my purchase. The bike has a nice appearance and handles well. Before this, the only issue I had was that the left gear (I'm not a bike expert, so forgive me if that's not the correct term) made a strange noise when switching between one of the three settings (the chain took a while to set correctly). The proper equipment was used, and it performed admirably. br>br>I'm getting ready to go back, and hopefully the next one won't have the same problem. Is there something on the user's end that could be causing this, or is it simply a manufacturing issue?.

I followed the instructions and built this bike. I sped down the driveway before slamming on the brakes. When I did so, the front tire immediately shifted to the side and began rubbing against the forks. I was concerned that I had done something incorrectly, so I double-checked the instructions and tightened the front wheel. I'm going to try to return this item because I'm still getting the same result. It's just a waste of time because I spent so much time putting it together and now I have to deal with shipping it back. br>br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. They sent me another one without requiring me to return the first, and the second one's tire is also bent. Now I'm waiting for a refund, despite the fact that I have two broken bicycles.

The quality is poor
3/5

I'm a cop, and I bought this bike to use as a training and exercise vehicle for bike patrol. Yesterday, I rode the bike for the first time, and it broke after about 6 miles of training. Front fork seals were in bad shape from the start, leaking fluid, and the front brake cable came loose during some braking drills. Finally, the back gear system failed, locking up the rear tire and nearly causing a crash. I understand that this is not a $2,000 or $3,000 bike, but for nearly $500, it should be a far better built bike than it was. It was a huge let down.

MTB's TOYOTA CAMERY from 2008
3/5

Before I bought the bike, I did a quick review of it and felt like I was taking a chance. Most of what I read said that the derailleur and crank arm/pedal junction, as well as the forks, were areas to watch out for damage in shipping. It turns out that UPS is the way to go in our area, and it arrived PERFECTLY IN TACT. Good start; put it together in about 15 minutes with only a few basic tools we already had on hand, and even swapped out the seat for a more comfortable one (which is a must with this bike). Everything went smoothly, the brakes were a little sloppy, the rear needed adjusting, and we were off! br>br>Had a great time on some mid-grade Georgia trails in Roswell, mostly technical rides with a little freeriding. It took a beating and kept going, which was exactly what I was looking for. My first "oh crap" moment came when the pedal was bent out of the crank arm (where it was threaded). After an exhausting hour of wrenching and hammering, it was discovered that the crank arm had been stripped and was no longer threading the pedal. I'm not the only one who has this problem. Also, the front forks aren't "freeride" or "downhill" forks, and at 80mm, they're a letdown. However, the fact that it's a complete suspension for less than $500 is pretty cool. BUT BEWARE OF THE BUYER. br>br>If you buy this bike, make sure to order:br>170mm crank arms 42br>New pedals with gripsbr>RST Aerial 29 front fork 100mmbr>AOY 30 Series rear suspensionbr>A helmetbr>br>Overall, a great first bike with some upgrades for those who aren't willing to spend $1500 on a higher-end mountain bike.
