Schwinn S29 Mens Mountain Bike, 29-Inch Wheels, 18-Inch/Medium Aluminum Frame, Dual-Suspension, Mechanical Disc Brakes, Multiple Colors

At 3000 miles, it was time for a new update. Before writing a review, I waited until I had ridden the bike for over 400 miles, and so far, everything has gone well. I was looking for a low-cost dual suspension mountain bike that I could ride three times a week. My old bike had 26 inch wheels and no suspension, but this one rides much better. I ride it four times a week for about 25 miles at a time. I understand that the suspension components aren't the best because they're just springs, but they appear to be adequate for my needs, which are mostly paved with the occasional fire road. You'll have to spend a lot more money if you want rear locking or dampening. br>br>I chose the matte black and blue model because it appeared to have mounting points for a water bottle cage, which it does. It also came with a side stand, and I haven't had any issues or had anything come loose or fall off in 400 miles. I put it together myself with no issues or missing pieces. br>br>I am 6' tall and weigh 185 pounds; the bike fits well and provides a pleasant ride; I particularly enjoy the 29" wheels. I'm glad I bought it, and I'd recommend it to a friend who is at least 5' 10" tall. br>br>3000 MILE UPDATE: br>The tires are nearly flat, but I'm hoping to get 3500 miles out of them. The crank bearings became loose at 2500 miles, which was the only issue so far. I was already planning on cleaning and lubricating them, so I ordered a crank puller and got to work. What I discovered was that the fixed race was loosening (which I had never noticed before) and that it was as good (if not better) than new after a thorough cleaning and application of fresh grease. br>br>I decided to upgrade to an air shock and regret not doing so sooner. It was a significant improvement. On the auction site E-Bay, I discovered a low-cost shock. For a little more than $30, B** (HTL- The 150 mm shock is 5 mm too short, while the 165 mm shock is 10 mm too long for a 100 MTB. Because I didn't want to lower the ground clearance because the pedals were already rubbing on corners, I went with the 165mm shock, but if lower ground clearance isn't an issue, go with the 150mm. The 165mm shock works fine, but the kickstand is now a little short; however, I like the increased ground clearance, and the ride quality has greatly improved over both small and large bumps.

This seemed like a good option given the abundance of great trails in Washington State. The last time I bought a bike, Ronald Reagan was in the White House, so obviously technology has advanced significantly since then, but there are a few "must-have" features that this bike meets:

- Price: Due to the fact that neither a real-life nor a fictional character exists, there is no I didn't want to spend a fortune because I'm not a real estate mogul or someone who gets paid $200,000 for a speech, so this price-point was ideal; spending any more seemed frivolous based on my riding skills and intended use.
- Suspension in full: I had back surgery a few years ago and needed something to take the sting out of the pain; This motorcycle performs admirably.
- Brakes on the wheels: Rainfall is measured in feet around here, so it's a dependable all-season rain gauge. It is critical that the weather be stopped. These brakes are far superior to the ones on my old car.
- Wheels are 29 inches wide. I understand that this is a contentious issue, but for me, this bike feels just right in terms of size and agility on tight trails. There's enough room for someone a few inches taller or shorter than me because the seat post is about halfway down.
- Quick- removing the front wheel and the seat: Because the bike fits perfectly in our Mazda MPV but not in our Nissan Pathfinder, this is a very useful feature if you prefer to transport your bike inside the vehicle. br>br>On a related note, I've had enough recent experience with medical devices that I don't need to sit in one every time I ride; the stock seat is pretty rudimentary, and I knew I needed to upgrade after 5 minutes. I purchased a Cloud-based storage system. For about $25, you can get a 9 Cruiser Select Airflow CS Saddle that is a night and day difference from the original. Overall, I believe this was a wise investment. br>br>.

One thing I did notice was that the front brake disc was slightly bent (though this had no bearing on its function). I watched a few YouTube videos on bicycle assembly to make sure I was doing everything correctly; I'd never worked with disc brakes before, so I wanted to make sure they were set correctly. It took me about an hour to put the bike together and make all of the brake adjustments that I wanted, and it rides like a dream! However, I kept my aftermarket seat from my previous bike and installed it on this one. That thin, hard foam seat appears to come standard on any new bike. It looks and feels great, and you're getting a great deal from a well-known company for the price! Edit: I had a problem with the rear gear mechanism after 3 months and a little over 150 miles on the bike. Fortunately, Schwinn's "Lifetime Warranty" kept its word, and I was able to obtain the model number and date code from the bike. I called the number listed on the service sticker, and the parts I needed arrived within a few days. I added this to be completely honest about the product, not to say that it is cheaply made by any means, but to say that the extra money for the lifetime warranty is well worth the extra money.
