Hello - The Silva does, in fact, come with a kickstand for easy storage. Jen, I appreciate your kindness.
Yes, I believe she will be insufficiently large. My 11-year-old is 5'2" and this bike is a perfect fit for him.
Unless their legs are unusually short, it should fit.
The bike was only half-built when it arrived. To finish the assembly, I connected the wheels, handlebar, and seat.

We bought this for our daughter after deciding to spend a little more than $100 on a bike that would last longer. The bike arrived quickly and in good condition. The fork/shock only had a single scratch. The instructions are very generic and cover every possible bike option; however, I was able to get through them because I have previously assembled bikes. It was nearly impossible to remove the Allen screw on the handle bar. I tried my two hand-held Allen wrenches with no luck; the line must have impact driven the fastener for a long time. It was necessary to use a 3/8 socket wrench and an Allen driver, which most people will not have. Several adjustments were required after the assembly was completed. It was necessary to adjust the brakes. br>br> Stamped steel is not difficult, but it is inexpensive. The front derailleur is a nightmare. br>It doesn't pull as evenly as I'd like. After struggling for over an hour and repeatedly hitting the derailleur in various speeds, I discovered that the factory had set the derailleur 1/4" too high. It was better after the adjustment, but getting all of the gears without hitting the derailleur was still impossible. I own a few high-end motorcycles that I've rebuilt multiple times. The three-speed grip shifter works in tandem with the front derailleur, making it much easier to set and less sensitive. The grip shifter is a disaster of a design. For three gears, there are five index settings? To get to each gear, it appears that you must rotate two clicks. This is completely insane. I've seen one index/click for each gear on every other grip shifter I've seen. It's difficult for me to recall things, let alone explain them to a seven-year-old. Only the middle gear allowed me to get the bike to work properly. We told our daughter that she should not change the front speeds from 1 to 2. 3, only the first row - br>br>The distance between the tires is far too close. When turning, your cane feet may collide with the front tire, according to another user. You get about an inch of clearance if you put your balls of your feet on the pedal. When you turn, if your feet sag forward a little, you'll feel the tire. See pics. The rear derailleur is the only Shimano component; the front derailleur, grip shifts, brakes, and break controls are all low-cost. Replacement Shimano components are surprisingly inexpensive, and I plan to do so because this bike should last her several years at her current height. It's absurd to have to do this on a brand new bike. br>br>The frame is well-welded and sturdy. However, it's a bit of a pain to use as a bike carrier. Overall, I would not recommend it. br>br>.
So far, there have been no issues. It is a big hit with my daughter. Because the reviews weren't great, but there were only 5 of them at the time, I decided to take a chance for my daughter's 10th birthday. So far, she enjoys it. It wasn't too difficult to put together, and I've put together some whoppers in the past. I noticed the loose neck screw that some people complained about, but I haven't had any problems so far, and everything seems to be in good working order. I had to adjust the brakes, which was the most difficult but not impossible task. The most difficult part was trying to do all of this while my daughter kept a wary eye on me. But, hey, everything has gone well thus far. Oh, and the seat had a small gouge in it when it arrived. I'm going to contact the seller, and I'll keep you updated as things progress.
At first, my daughter had a love-hate relationship with this bike, and it took some time to get used to it. The handlebar stem bolt and the bolt that secures the handlebars to the stem piece were both broken, as were the handlebars. She returned angry on several occasions, and she once crashed because the handlebars continued to move. The stem bolt was eventually tightened to the point where it hasn't moved in a long time, and the bolt that holds the handlebars was also tightened to the point where it hasn't moved in a long time. It wouldn't stay until I realized it was: 1) poorly designed in comparison to my other bikes, and 2) lacked a lock washer to prevent it from loosening. I added a lock washer to that one as well, and it's been working fine so far. I'm not sure if this was an engineering oversight, but I'm guessing it was simply a cost-cutting measure.
I'm not sure if it's worth it. So far, I've had a mix of emotions. There were no broken or missing pieces in the box, but I could see why the handlebar stem would be a problem to tighten. So far, so good. I added a crush washer and some friction to the stem, which should keep things tight. Overall, the components have a cheap feel to them. This bike costs $180. I'm not sure how this is superior to bikes half the price; I was hoping for something more than a $100 bike, but I'm not sure - The brakes, as well as the shifter, appear to be of low quality. When I ride my bike, it makes a clunking noise, but when my daughter rides it, it does not. It shouldn't have happened, but so far everything has gone well. In this price range, I suppose it's difficult to find a good bike. In addition, we purchased a Mongoose Status 2. 2 is the same price and weighs the same (due to the reae suspension), but it feels more solid overall.
Arrived in perfect condition and on time. It was already about 80% put together before we started working on it, so it didn t take us long to finish it. My 10-year-old daughter loves it, and it's the perfect size for her; she's 5'1" and the bike should fit her for the next few years. This is a bike that I strongly suggest.
We just got this bike a few weeks ago, and our 11-year-old daughter is in love with it! The problem is that the bike's dimensions are not mentioned in the description! Based on the comments, it appears to be a 26" bike, but what arrived is a 24" bike. It's still ideal for her, but hopefully it'll suffice once she's fully grown up. She's nearly 5 feet tall at this point.
Perilous. I was disappointed that this bike did not suit my 7-year-old son. Daughter of 5 years old. I like how it looks, and I used to have a sturdy Mongoose BMX bike. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The most serious problem, and the reason I returned it, was that the headset screw was not tightened enough, causing the handle bars to sag and occasionally pivot dangerously off center WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS RIDING. She only fell once, and that was the end of it. I tried tightening and repairing it, but it wouldn't budge. br>br>The rest of the assembly went fairly smoothly, though the front breaks kept rubbing. It's impossible to get it right.
Junk! The item appeared to be in good condition, but it arrived broken, and Amazon refused to replace it. I repaired the broken derailer, but the repair only lasted six rides.
