I found this chain cleaner to be very useful. As an alternative to spray on cleaners, I use this. Whenever I need a deep clean, I use this. To clean a chain link fence, I use an old pickle jar (probably cleaned thoroughly), and a couple inches of Park Chain Cleaner. Let the chain soak for five minutes after I remove it from my bike It takes ten Once this is done, I agitate the jar to loosen up any remaining dirt or grime. The chain comes out clean.
Once the chain is taken out, I let the solution settle for at least a few hours. After filtering the solution with a coffee filter and returning it to the bottle, I reuse the funnel to filter the solution again. The average recovery rate after one use is about 75%.
There is even a suggestion on Park Tool's chain cleaner for a mixture of detergent and water that would be very effective. First, I used the Park solution, then (according to the instructions on the chain cleaner tool), I used (Dawn) dish detergent and water for a second cleaning. I used this for cleaning the chain and it worked extremely well. However, if you only want to use the Park solution, you can use it for sure, but I will be switching to Dawn once this bottle is empty.
It is not at all the fault of Park Tool or the product, but entirely the fault of Amazon/USPS for poorly packing, handling, and shipping the item.
The product works well, so this is a great product. The park tool chain cleaning tool (CM-2) should be used correctly to clean your chain 1) a clean chain is achieved by first cleaning everything with the cleaner, then cleaning it with soapy water.
Cleaners and lubricants made from biodegradable materials are highly appreciated. It’s no secret that, while I keep my chain well lubricated and generally clean, I haven’t deep cleaned the chain on this bike. Chain tools need to be used to remove a rivet, then the chain needs to be soaked in a solvent, followed by having to put the rivet back without it binding. I was delighted to discover Park Tools' chain scrubber, and I also acquired this biodegradable chain cleaner when I found it.
I scrubbed the chain with the chain scrubber and this cleaner twice per the instructions on the scrubber. Despite getting most of the crud off with this method, there was still much crud and lubricant on the chain, so adding new oil was not the answer. My eye landed on a gallon of Simple Green Industrial Strength Biodegradable Cleaner and Degreaser hanging out in the garage. The 1 I used is In the scrubber, you dilute the scrubber cleaner with 30 parts water to 1 part water. We ended up with a completely clean chain and was ready to oil (with plant-based biodegradable oil). Although this cleaner may be adequate for maintaining a relatively clean chain, it does not handle heavy duty work, and it is an expensive investment all in all. In any case, I appreciate the effort Park Tools put into making a biodegradable cleaner. That era of solvent baths should be long behind us.
Combined with the Park Took cyclone chain cleaning tool, I found that this stuff worked well for cleaning my chain. My previous attempt to clean the chain with dish soap and hot water didn't work as well as this cleaner! The package isn't cheap, but you can reuse it for a while (just have to wipe off the dirt first), so that should offset the price.
I've been using it with the Chain Gang Chain Cleaning System and it works great. The chain looks brand new after I've finished. In my work, I ride a lot of converted railroad rights of way, which have crushed lime stone bases. Since the chain is made from an abrasive material, it needs to be cleaned frequently.
The cyclone chain cleaner and this will help keep your chain in good shape and help your bike always feel and ride its best. You can always count on Park Tool to deliver. This chain cleaner is easiest to use if you have a bike stand, but if you're cleaning your own chain, you probably already own The glass cleaner is great for getting the road grime off the frame, as well. This miracle elixir may not be friendly to all paint finishes, so care should be taken in this respect, but I find that in my tool kit I can't survive without a bottle of it. I'd recommend you don't get it on your disc brakes, but that shouldn't be too difficult
Have a great ride.
Dawn is a great detergent soap that does work well, but Chainbrite beats it hands down! You can store it in a container and reuse it, but honestly, it works so well that you'll want to throw it away after using it. Dawn works twice as well and requires much less effort. I think it is three or four times better. In the event that it's so important to you to clean your chain and if you're spending valuable time on it, this is the product for you!.
