Although it is quite heavy, I do not notice it during my leisurely bike rides, so having it as a negative is at best a moot point. Some people may not feel the same way if they race or bike longer distances. The bike mount has not been used yet, it's just been dangling above my seat when I bike, just in case I stop. It's been about a month now since I've been using it in a busy apartment complex in a major city, and my bike hasn't been stolen yet! As far as I can tell, the lock does its job in a satisfactory manner. After storing it outside for a month, I have begun to rust some of the metal parts of the bike. Therefore, I have taken off two stars. It claims that it will prevent rust, but it did not. I purchased it specifically because I was going to store my bike outside in NC and I knew I would have to put it under cover. I cannot do much to prevent the bike from being exposed to moisture, so I anticipate I will need to replace the lock after a year. On the positive side, I believe the cover for the keyhole helps prevent rusting of the point where it enters the key. Nevertheless, this will be of little use if the rest of the lock is rusted together and cannot be opened. The TLDR is Although the lock seems to be effective, it WILL rust if you keep your bike out in the rain.
A local community college recently attempted to steal some of the bikes near their location, but because of the heavy duty lock on my bike, nothing was taken, and my bike was the best of the bunch. This shows the power and intimidation of bike locks.
A pair of these locks a kick scooter powered by an electric motor. There are some racks that it works with, but not others. It has yet to occur to me how to use the cable for deterring theft, but I know that the U-shaped cable holds the key. With the tall bike racks, the lock not only works, but it is also a safety feature. You'll need to adjust the height to accommodate all scooters or Please note *br*br*- This edit was made on 7/16/17. A star has been knocked off for the case of the U-line Cracks and splits after the first use of the lock (see photo in the last paragraph). In terms of use, it's not a problem, but the weather seal is now obviously compromised.
It is very scary to look at. In terms of one pet peeve, I cannot find a lockpicking video of it on YouTube and I dislike the fact that it was made of plastic. It does not seem easy to choose, however. If you knew the type of plastic used inside the lock body, that would be helpful. A thermoplastic like HDPE or even UHMW which would have 270 degrees Fahrenheit melting point seems plausible. While I say that plastic is used, the body of the lock is actually protected by metal. A fundamental problem with locks is that if bolt cutters were able to get through the lock body, the lock body itself would be the weakest point. Due to the low crime rate in my neighborhood, I am confident that it will keep my electric bike.
Strong and compact, the Heavy Duty U lock makes a great addition to any home. Despite the fact that my key mechanism is no longer perfect, I can insert it through loops on my backpack or sling it over my handlebars for short trips. My front wheel or rear rack is secured by the cable that comes with it. I am fully satisfied with this lock and brand. The metal components are covered so they won't scratch my bike.
Lock is great, love the thicker bolt. My only problem is the locking mechanism does get stuck at times, usually when it is cold out. It doesn't take more than 10-15 seconds to free it though. When it's stuck, it takes 20 seconds for it to be unlocked. It would be better to make the body more durable in the future. I tried to steal a lock, but it works great even after an attempt was made. Upon my return, I discovered that the lock had been unlocked The bolt parts were scratched and dented in multiple areas, but they still appeared to be intact. With a little WD-40, I was able to repair the locking mechanism as well Retweeting the review with a 5 instead of a 3.
Comes with a lock holder and a cable along with 2 keys. Provided with three Velcro bands as well.
I could not fit the lock on the bottom of my mountain bike due to the size of the base. There is just too much room in the lock directly below the seat. Attached on the top of the bike at where the break edges are, so it sticks out a little in front, not quite within peddling reach but not far. If I had the chance to do it over, I would choose a smaller and lighter piece.
