Questions & Answers

I misplaced my fire starter; can I get a replacement and how much will it cost?

I don't believe Schrade sells replacements for this axe, but I believe they are available on taylorbrandsllc. com sells a large piece of fire steel for $7 in the schrade accessories section. I'm not sure if it'll work with this axe.

Will it be available with a nylon sheath in the future?

A sheath was included with mine. I move it from my pack to my belt and back as needed using a "Not for Climbing" clip. So far, the sheath has outlasted my expectations.

How do I know if I'm getting the new version with the improved handle?

The product's exact part number must be provided by the seller.

Is it possible for this hammer head to withstand being struck by metal? schrade scaxe10 11 is a book I've read. 1in is not one of them. ?

It's meant to drive tent stakes, but the head is solid, and the blade to waffle, depending on the nature of "hitting on metal." I'd say the (plastic?) is to blame. If you were serious about destroying something, like a car, the ) handle would be the first to go.

Use as a hammer only if absolutely necessary
3/5

It worked well as a hatchet, but when I flipped it over to use as a hammer, the head split in half.

junk
3/5

After the first use, it broke into three pieces. After about 4 or 5 strikes, the rear striker chipped off. After that, the blade, minus the handle, was stuck in the wood for 2 minutes. Everything has been thrown away.

Metal for pots! This hatchet has been in my possession for about two and a half years
3/5

I've only used it three or four times since then. The blunt end of it broke off after about 50 hammer strikes when I went out to use it as a wedge to split some larger logs the other day. It turned up some porous-looking pot metal. The sharp edge can still be used, but who knows when it will break as well. This hatchet is not something I would recommend!.

This is something I really want to enjoy
3/5

This hatchet has a lot of potential for me. First and foremost, it is durable. I'm confident it'll last a long time. It is a reasonable price. br>However, there are a few things I don't care for. First and foremost, this item arrives in a dull state. That isn't to say it isn't razor sharp. I'm not even implying that it's the "kinda" sharp that comes with mass-produced cutting and chopping implements. This thing almost bounces off whatever you're chopping. The first time I went out in the yard with it, I gave up trying to use it after a few minutes. This is a clumsy piece of machinery. Perhaps it was just bad luck that I received a mixed-in floor sample. I'm not sure what I'm saying. I attempted to sharpen with a puck, but it seemed to take an eternity. It took a grinder to get a decent edge going on it. Second, when you use this axe, you can feel every vibration and impact. I've got both wooden and polymer hatchets. However, using this one is inconvenient because the hit's energy travels up your arm. Of course, the fact that it cuts poorly is a contributing factor. Regardless, working with it is a chore. I can't see myself using this for more than a few chops. br>br>At some point, I'll devote some time to improving the edge and making it more useful. Right now, it's collecting dust in the corner of the workshop, where it should have been returned on the first day. It isn't expensive in the least. But even for this amount of money, you can get a lot more.

This is an incredible deal
5/5

It appears much larger in the photo than it is in reality. It's about 1 foot long, with a head that's 5 1/2 inches long. The handle is made of a very durable plastic that also looks great. The rubber grip provides excellent grip while also being extremely comfortable to hold; the head is thick but not excessively so, and the edge has a nice flat grind. It comes with a slightly sharpened edge, but it can be sharpened to a razor edge that holds up well. The blade is made of stainless steel and has a cool dark grey coating that adheres well. It doesn't get in the way anywhere you store it because of its small size. It's not as heavy as most hatchets, but it still delivers a powerful blow. The kydex sheath is extremely tough and won't rot like leather. It snaps on and off and is the perfect fit for your head. At first, opening and closing the snap is a little difficult, but it gets easier with practice. The fire steel, last but not least. The ferro rod is concealed in the handle's base, completely out of sight. It's worth at least $20 just for the rod. This thing is massive. It has a length of 2 3/4 inches and a thickness of 3/8 inch. It's a lot bigger than a typical firestarter rod. The top of the head (NOT THE EDGE) works well for igniting it, and it produces a LOT of sparks. The only flaw I've discovered is that the lanyard that comes with the ferro rod is extremely cheap, but this can easily be remedied with a nice paracord lanyard. Overall, this is an excellent investment for a small camping/hiking hatchet.

Hatchet of excellent quality with a comfortable handle - My purchase has exceeded my expectations! I've looked at videos and read reviews
5/5

On choosing a hatchet, I pretty much "reviewed" everything. I chose the Schrade SCAXE2 and am very happy with it. If you want to know the manufacturer's specifications, you can find them on the seller's website. Here are the specifications in detail. The length of the "usable" handle is approximately 9. 5". Yes, the handle is longer, but I'm talking about the portion that can be used. The length of the curved blade is three times the length of the straight blade. 75" (from tip to tip, measured in a straight line). The hammer's head measures 1 inch in diameter. 5" x 0. 75". It is not bulky or overly heavy (it is, after all, a hatchet), and after using it to chop up some 2-inch thick wood, it is a decent size to hang from a belt, vest, backpack, or similar item. I didn't feel like I was swinging a bowling ball around because of the 5" branches that had fallen in the yard. The rubber handle has built-in finger placements and is comfortable, as well as softening a mis-handled object. Make a small swing. Recoil padding is what it's referred to as. ) The rubber handle also helps to keep you from slipping. The blade is nitrite-coated and razor sharp. With the exception of the blade edge, there are no scratches after a few uses. After cleaning and oiling the blade/head, I am confident that it will last for many years. I didn't order it for the fire starter, but it is unquestionably a nice bonus. Mine was a tight fit in the hatchet's handle, and it took some effort to get it out. It didn't loosen up much after the hatchet was used. Personally, I believe the fire starter should be left in place. Unless you have a pressing need for it. It isn't necessary to remove it. re-insert, re-insert, re-insert The head cover/carrying case is a neat concept, but I'm not sure how long it will last; it covers the head perfectly and fits easily on a belt, but it does appear to be a little on the light side; only time will tell. For the time being, it functions satisfactorily, and I enjoy the design. I live in the south and have read reviews of cold weather handle breaks and other items. There isn't much in the way of cold here. This is a solid, comfortable small hatchet that is perfect for general use, backpacking, camping, or even survival situations. In the light to medium use that I put it through, the handle seemed to be just fine. For the price, I'm very happy with the quality.
