I placed an order for (4) FOUR Watl hatchets. Every single one of them was a letdown. 0/4 Two had to be returned due to their deplorable condition- My Butcher Axe had a badly misaligned head/handle, and Ace of Spades had a cracked handle when it arrived. br>br>The two I returned were reordered. That means I went through SIX (6) WATL axes during the processing. All of the models are premium $100 models. EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM WAS A MISTAKE. My Corporal was dull because he had a grinding error. I bought SIX hatchets, all of which were drab. Now, this isn't a big deal for me because I don't like my hatchets honed to a razor's edge, but for a company that brags about how sharp they are-- well. They probably wanted you to focus on something other than the fact that you'll be getting 1055 steel and a nylon sheath. Considering what they're charging for this common cheap steal and nylon, with a rumor of Hickory but who knows, I expected fit and finish to be fantastic. None of them were particularly attractive, and none of them were perfectly aligned- I expect precision for this price. For a fee of $25, CS will deliver it. My axe chests are brimming with high-quality weapons. It was a complete disaster. misaligned, a few warped cheeks here and there, and so on- I got in touch with the folks at WATL. br>br>The folks at WATL suggested that I take it up with Amazon. I told them I was going to, but I thought they'd be interested in hearing about my experience with (6) SIX! of the axes on which they are based Nobody seemed concerned until I mentioned that I was going to do something I didn't do very often-- make a review br>br> I kept a few of the axes because they're just too beautiful to pass up. I'm going to throw them away and enjoy them the way they were intended. Hopefully, because of the price I paid, there will be enough left for my kid to throw one day. But, as far as these guys are concerned, BUYER BEWARE is my final word. There are far too many other forges and businesses out there that are working hard for your money and do not take their customers for granted. If you're competing in WATL and are required to purchase these in order to compete, you should do so. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time- Gentlemen, it's time for a boycott.
When I threw this axe, it completely dislodged itself from the handle. This should not have happened because I am in a league and know how to throw properly.
It's a little heavier than the ace of spades, but not quite as much as the corporal. Because the handle is longer than the other WATL axes, it took me a little longer to get the hang of it, but the 4" blade has greatly improved my game. I was able to convert a lot of the close 4's I had with the Ace into 6's, allowing me to make more close kill shots. Softer woods, such as poplar or cottonwood, are ideal for this. However, I continue to use the corporal for hardwoods such as yellow pine.
This beast has quickly risen to the top of my axe collection. It has a very light feel to it, but it still thumps the boards with each throw. After joining the league, I purchased this axe, and despite the fact that it was labeled for experts, I found it to be very easy to throw consistently with great accuracy. I've been throwing this axe for a few months and it's still in great shape!.
For a few weeks, everything was fine, but now it's getting worse. I have to hammer the haft back into the axe's eye after every few throws. Although it does not appear to be in danger of falling off the haft, the few millimeters make a difference in where I must throw, and I must constantly adjust. The only thing that comes to mind is that the axes sold on Amazon are defective or remanufactured axes that were not up to WATL's standards and were instead sold on Amazon. br>br>I was going to return it, but I've been carving designs into the haft since I bought it.
For me, this is an excellent throwing axe. It's a little heavier than the lighter ones, but I prefer it. br>br>It was razor-sharp right out of the box, so keep an eye on it. br>br>Includes an unsightly nylon head cover with a belt loop. Yes, it's a bit pricey for a throwing axe, but you get what you pay for most of the time in life.
This was purchased as a present for our brother-in-law. A law enforcement officer who enjoys throwing axes. He was overjoyed when he received this gift. He was impressed by the weight and build quality.
This axe has a fantastic throw! Let it fly after you've lined it up. Because it's heavier than I'm used to, I had to adjust my throwing technique a little, but after that it was a breeze!.
