Sweden is where the axe head is made. The handles are unknown to me.
Tarnaby hatchet handle is 15" long, according to the item description on Amazon as of 11/01/20. True Value Hardware also sells the same hatchet, and their description backs it up.
The Swedish word "bruks" means "forge." Hults and Granfors are two forges in Sweden that are both of high quality. Granfors are said to be more expensive due to their superior finish.
It's a different hatchet, but it's remarkably similar.

$85 isn't even close to being a good deal. The head was misshapen near the top of the blade, and it appears that whoever did the grind was aware of this and chose not to grind that area. It's most likely because it'd snap the blade's top half off. On the shaft, the head was also crookedly seated. Poor quality control for such a "reputable" tool manufacturer. My plastic Fiskars x7, which costs $20, feels like a higher-quality tool.
This axe was a nightmare to work with. The asymmetry of the edge bothered me. The axe's head was asymmetrical to begin with. It was quickly dulled. br>br>Within a week of use, the blade had chipped. I only used the axe twice, and both times were in my axe throwing gym. This level of work can't be justified. DO NOT PURCHASE! br>br> I gave it back to you.
I've included a few photos from when I first received the hatchet so you can see what my review may have missed. With that said, and as others have stated, the head's finish could have been much better. In terms of a mid-range price, The head of the upper-end hatchet appears to have been quickly processed through their manufacturing process. With that said, it's possible that this criticism is only a matter of taste. If the function isn't working properly, I'll update the review. I'm not unhappy with my purchase; I just wished for a little more.
This is a stunning axe. The fact that this is a hand forged axe is lost on most reviewers. It's normal for high carbon steel to have minor flaws and imperfections. It's sharp, but preparing an axe takes time and effort, as it always does when buying one. Nothing a little boiled linseed oil, a cup of deisel fuel, and a sharpening stone can't fix on the user's end. It's a razor-sharp blade that cuts cleanly. It was far superior to the eastwing that I had previously experienced.
It's made of high-quality metal with expert craftsmanship, and it's built to last. It can chop down a good-sized tree for firewood while also fitting nicely in your pack. The sheath is useless and would be better if it had a belt loop, but don't let that deter you from purchasing it because there are better options available.
If you own property, expect piles and piles of brush for as long as you can stand it. Prepare for brush, kindling, logs, bonfires, and the occasional dead werewolf or bear due to axe poisoning for those who wish to survive. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Yes, it looks like a Husqvarna axe made in Sweden, but it's made in a different foundry. Aside from that, the axes are completely different, and this one is WELL WORTH THE MONEY. (What's klunky is just me griping about the hickory handle. ) You should buy four or five. The handle measures 15 inches long from the top of the blade to the end of the handle.
The hatchet arrived in good condition and was well packaged. It looks like the hatchet is well-made and balanced. It isn't particularly sharp, but I should be able to give it a razor-sharp edge fairly quickly. I'm pleased with my purchase because it's a well-made hatchet that will last a long time. It also includes a sheath and an instruction manual.
It's well worth the money, and it's a good size. It arrived in perfect condition, and I've had nothing but positive feedback so far. I may upgrade to something a little larger in the future, but the quality and utility of this hatchet cannot be questioned. My purchase was a great success.
