A perfect balance of toughness and softness hardness. Sharpening is rarely required, and knots are not chipped. Beautiful axe with a nice sheath. a good all-around handle with even the woodgrain running in the right direction It's well worth the extra money to upgrade to the premium model. In my opinion, it is a superior product to Gransfors.
This hatchet has made me very happy. As with other HBs I own, I enjoy the overall feel and balance. The handle is comfortable to hold, and the orientation is excellent. It is hung perfectly with no gaps, and the alignment is perfect. They don't have the same aesthetics as GB when it comes to fit and finish, but none of that matters when it comes to performance. That said, I find myself reaching for my HB more frequently because it feels like a well-designed tool that performs admirably. GB are excellent tools, but when compared to HB in use, something feels missing. br>br>Anyway, this is a fantastic hatchet that is well worth the money, though I did have to work on the edge a little because it wasn't quite right out of the box. If you sharpen your tools regularly, it's not a big deal.
I received my axe yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the weight, size, and feel of it. Then I cut a piece of dry firewood in half. Because the blade is so small, it nicked the handle when it hit the split firewood (see photo). I was disappointed that such a nice-looking tool could be so fragile, and I would recommend adding some rubber or other protection to the handle's top.
I purchased the Tarnaby by accident and promptly returned it in exchange for this beast, primarily because of the weight difference. I'm so happy I did. I used it on a 12-mile hike/camp on the PCT and was blown away. Even though it was very light, it was able to handle some fire-starting duties while also slicing cheese for my ham sandwich. You'll be glad you did when you get one.
It's stunning! Well-made, well-fitting, and well-finished product. It has a razor-sharp edge. The fit between the head and the handle is tight and perfect, and the leather sheath is excellent. This is a top-of-the-line hatchet that will serve you well for many years. For a long time, I've desired a fine Swedish hatchet, and I'm blown away by the high quality of this tool.
This axe is extremely well-made. It came razor sharp from the factory and can be used to shave. It has a strong grip on the edge. The handle is nice, with a darker color than the photos, which I like, and the edge can be a little difficult to work with at times, but it lasts longer.
Gift for our son, who values high-quality items and tools that perform as expected. This hatchet is not "jewelry," but rather a well-balanced forged steel hatchet with a refined functional design.
Hatchet is very nice. Steel appears to be very good, but only time will tell if this is the case. It arrived razor-sharp, as if it could shave. The sheath is made of good leather and is well-secured. The wood handle is of good quality, with the grain oriented correctly.
