Have a horse that is far too intelligent for his own good. A dually halter was recommended by the trainer, and it has proven to be very effective for him. I don't like riding with a bit and had planned to ride him in a lovely leather sidepull, but the trainer refreshed my gelding with a dually and suggested we ride in this halter instead of anything else. br>It's a sturdy and versatile device that applies pressure to the nose exactly where it's needed when it's needed. br>Comes with an instructional DVD, but I watched a short YouTube video about it before buying it and have never opened it. If you have a horse that needs a lot of groundwork before riding, this is a great place to start. br>From "halter mode" to "work mode," it's simple to change.
After reading Monty Roberts' book "From My Hands to Yours," I decided to see if the Dually Halter could help my 7-year-old Arab Gelding fill in some training gaps. He has gone to trainers, but he has returned home with some remedial work. He has difficulty trailer loading, does not understand leg pressure, and is somewhat impolite in hand, but he is incredibly sweet and eager. The Dually is a fantastic tool for me. My horse is behaving admirably. I'm sorry, but I can no longer play the DVD that came with the halter, and I can't find any directions to a website that might have the same instruction video. I'm guessing it's something along the lines of Monty's YouTube videos on the subject.
Halter for schooling that is very well made. It must be used with care and in a timely manner. It encourages the horse to find his own method of relieving the pressure without becoming agitated. It's clear that they're debating it. When I put it on him, my mule gets a little worried because there are so many buckles that make noise, so I rub his face and snoot to make it more fun. He's quick to pick up new skills, and he's a bit of a wuss! Please take the time to watch all of the videos and get a feel for how to use this tool. It can be extremely beneficial in terms of keeping your animal light and willing.
This really works; I have a mare named "Show Horse" who hasn't had any problems with it. She developed a trailering escape routine around the age of nine for some reason. We're making progress with this device; I'm cautious, and she's wearing a breakaway halter in transportation. However, loading this way is the safer option; a trainer worked with her for six months and cost a significant sum of money. I'm on COUMADIN and can't afford to have a concussion.
I thought the Be Nice Halter would be too harsh to persuade him to accompany me, but the Dually Halter worked almost instantly, as if he chose to accompany me rather than the halters.
Monty Roberts is one of the most endearing actors in the world. I've read his books before, but this is the first time I've purchased a training tool from him. The quality is excellent, and the accompanying DVD is extremely useful. This is my favorite bitless bridle. It's working well for my paint mare, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a multi-purpose supplement. halter with a mission.
