Questions & Answers

How much weight (in ounces or pounds) does it hold? Could you tie a few rods together and use that to hold your weight?

During the processing of your sling or vest, I believe that only 1 rod is meant to be attached to it. My rod gets in the water when I use it in the float tube or while wading, so I don't drop it. In order this can be done, I can discard a fish or switch an artificial fly. It should not be attempted to attach more than 1 rod to this in its current state. One of my favorite gadgets for fly fishing is probably this one out of all the ones I own. While it is expensive, it is worth the investment.

Can this be used as a spincaster ?

My understanding is that there is no reason not to. This may not be the case if it is a heavy-duty surf casting rod since the rods may not fit.

Is it possible to carry another rod on this?

The rod might be able to be attached to the back of your vest instead of the front. In the front the rod would make casting difficult.

Is there a risk of damaging a fly rod in this situation? Can I use bamboo rods to fish with? I have a couple of them. ?

As far as bamboo rods go, I don't know anything. You can use a regular rod and reel and hold it easily without dropping your rod and reel in the gravel or on a rock while addressing unruly fish.

It takes a lot of hard work to execute a good idea
3/5

As for the problem, I purchased this clip so I could carry my rod on my vest and on my backpack. The design is good and sturdy, and the foam where you insert the rod is nice and not cheap quality, but once I put it on, that's when Clips like these are similar to the pins that you might wear from the fair or those that your grandmother wears on her sweater vest at Because the pin is loose, when I put it on, I knew I would soon be impaled. And exactly that is what happened to me as I was removing my rod from my vest. My man chest was pierced by a one inch dagger that looked like a tranquilizer needle. I cried out in a way that only Celine Dion could understand. The pain in my chest did not only hurt me, but also hurt.

Fishing rods that are perfectly suited for fishermen
5/5

I did not expect this rod holder to be exactly what it was or what it should be, but it worked perfectly. It appears the designers at Smith Creek know a bit more about how to make great products than I do. First of all, I thought the foam would be way too small to fit my rod (9' 5wt), but it ended up fitting tightly. I was able to intentionally remove the rod without it falling out once, nor was it difficult to put back in. In addition to that, the zinger only stretches 3" which didn't seem like much, but it ended up being just right for pulling out my rod as easy as attaching it, while still keeping my rod close in my sling pack as I switched Three, the safety pin connection on the Zinger looks weak and makes me doubt the device will hold up. In spite of my initial skepticism, it worked perfectly and, while I initially expected a standard clip, the safety pin style of mounting allowed me to attach it to a more convenient location on my sling pack (just below the "workbench" I was able to reorient the clip with the zinger by simply drilling two holes in the aluminum so that the holes would better work with my pack as a result of their foresight. This rod holder has been designed by the folks at smith creek to work even better than expected, so it is obvious they are fishing enthusiasts. I will no longer fish without this product! It is excellent and invaluable.

Buying this product is not worth it
3/5

Although I am not one for writing negative reviews, I am a huge fly fishing enthusiast and this product surely is not worth the money when it comes to fly fishing. Despite the fact that the pin that holds your fly rod in place is made cheaply, the part that grabs your rod does a good job. Even though mine was bent when I received it, I was still able to pin it so I pinned it again. There's no way that this would last a year of moderate use since the closure for the pin kept opening and falling off twice. Eventually it would just fall off without me even noticing, or worse still, I would have to deal with a fish in the net or try to tie on a fly while it was falling off. As a fishing accessory, I believe this item is not worth the $26 price tag because it feels like it is made for very little money and not certainly built to last. I don't believe it is something you can rely on to function and hold up for much longer than you expect.

This is a great idea, but it has a A number of these devices are in my possession
3/5

Rods are easily and securely held with this clamp. It is the fastener that is a weak point. Zinger pins poke through your clothing to hold your rod and reel, and they poke a clip on the zinger to hold the rod and There is a high probability that it will fail and pull out, usually bent and unusable at that time. I change all of mine with a much better attachment so that I don't drop my rod and reel into the water or tear my clothes.

You should make sure it fits your rod before getting it
4/5

My favorite thing about it the light weight. They should offer a larger size. See the packaging label indicating a maximum of 1/4" and 1/4". The product appears to be a good design concept. I have not used it yet but I expect it will meet most of my needs. Weight 5 pounds. It was possible to get 0 from my system. However, the zero point would not be reached until 38" of it had been pushed in. A five-point plan. As the foam is pretty soft, I'm fairly confident that it will stretch and cause slippage w/ heavy to medium usage, but that is just speculation at the moment. We will see. I have a trip coming up where I expect to use it heavily for about 20 days.

Now is the perfect time to purchase one! Having used this rod holder, I can't speak highly enough of it
5/5

I have changed my whole approach to fly fishing because of it. A great option if you need to have two hands. Like many fly fisherman, I am not one who simply drops his rod and reel into the water like I've seen others do. In addition to protecting my tools, I also care about preserving the environment. If you plan to wade, you must have this. This is a highly recommended book. You can confirm this for yourself by watching their YouTube video. If you don't believe me, then buy one today. You won't.

There are a bunch of guides who are amazed by it
5/5

On every fly fishing trip I take, I blow people away with this nifty little device. Them they are, trying to figure out how to hold all that stuff with two hands while also doing a lot of other stuff, while the fly rod is banging against Whenever I catch a fish, I net it, insert the rod into this, and do whatever I need to do to release it. This is my favorite guide book, and a bunch of people look at it with wonder.

It is an expensive purchase, but it is well I realize this is a relatively expensive tool, but once I'm on the river and need to change flies, it comes in handy
5/5

do not wear a vest anymore, and so I do not keep fly rod holders on my vest. The nifty little device works quite well, although it is expensive. I have a little trouble using it with my six weight switch rod, but it still works fine.
