Catfishing is a great use for these. If you bury it in the ground, you can leave it there for a while. If you have a catch, the bell will alert you. During our last camping trip, we used them to put up our tents. The bell could ring, and I could do my business and then check on my pole when I heard it. Because holders are detachable and compact, they are nice when you need to pack them. Make sure you remove the bell before you cast, or you will end up watching it go.

You need to paint them red if you don't want to lose them at the beach. You can either use another clamp or put the bell on after you have thrown the line in.
