Mounting them vertically or horizontally is done by means of the 2 sockets they include. Four screws, preferably stainless steel, will need to be used to hold them together. One screw hole has a diameter of one inch. A measuring device that measures 5x3. The number five.
All I can tell you is that my rod holder is mounted to the wooden railing of my deck, which is about 5 inches wide. I don't know what a pontoon boat's square rails look like.
Since I began using them on my 1800 Lund with 8ft rods to fish for walleye in 2012, there has never been an issue. It is the best product
As soon as the post is in the mounting bracket, there is a second lock It needs to be turned. The end of the rod is rounded off with a nut that locks it in position so a fish cannot pull it

This mount can be installed easily and there is space inside to add other components by Attwood. Although the dimensions of the base are listed here on Amazon, I ended up using a wood spacer under it to scale it properly to fit the table properly. I'm partly to blame since I originally estimated the dimensions of the table based on the Amazon listings. The next time I buy something smaller, it will probably be smaller as well.
This product was purchased to add a swivel mount to the center rail of my kayak. This housing swivels easily and has a positive feel when you loosen the rod. The detint that you lift to swivel the housing is sturdy and is easy to use. It has never failed me yet that I have banged this around all over. As for spin casters and spinning reels, it worked well. I had some issues getting my bait caster to settle into my spinning reel and not be fussy, but I got it to work. You don't have to forget the stainless hardware from the store or the silicon to keep the water out of the 'yak. They are worth the money and time to install for the build.
The deck lights were great and I will probably start buying two more for the front now that I have used.
This is an excellent product. I like that they are easy to adjust, strong, and affordable. The only disadvantage is that they sometimes stick in the mount a bit, but that will probably become less of an issue with time. For $16 I paid for 2 of them, these are well worth it.
There isn't a lot of cost involved with these PLASTIC rod holders. My fishing outfits are all gone because of the plastic rod holders smashing when I was fishing. I guess they'd be okay for catching smaller fish, but I have lost THREE expensive outfits to this. Previously, all my rod holders were made of brass. I've replaced them all with brass rod holders.
With baitcasting or spincasting rods it's a great option. In my case, I installed two flush mounts for my mounting on the rear deck. I bought an extension for it to make it 6" long. As the extension raises the rod high enough, you can adjust the rod up and down in relation to the ground, especially if you have a longer handle.
The Attwood rod holders were originally purchased as early as 20 years ago, and I'm still using them today. The new ones are better than the old ones when compared to mine. The manufacturer stands behind their product.
We have no dislikes to report. Striped bass are some of the fish I catch with it. The weight of some I have caught ranges from 30 to 35 pounds. It is not a good idea to set the reel drag too tightly. The drag should be set to 8# if you like to use 20# test line. Rod holders are not going to be pulled out of the fasteners under normal operation, nor will the line be broken or torn.
