No - They are waterproof if you get the version with Gortex.
No, they aren't steel-toed shoes. Plastic that is extremely hard.
Yes, in most common shoes, I wear a size 11. 5 in Danner wide or a high-quality dress shoe.

They look great and are well made, but the stitching on the inside of the shoe, near the beginning of the toe on the inside of the foot, causes friction and will be a pain on any hike, regardless of length or intensity. At least, that's my experienceC you might want to try them and see if that's the case for you. Personally, I think the Salomon X Ultra 3 low and mid are the best hiking shoes ever made.
I have a few more XA PRO 3D pairs. This new version differs significantly from the previous one. Be careful who you buy from. They have a lower quality feel, are poorly constructed, and appear to be made of melted plastic rather than sewn together. This new design from Salomon gets a thumbs down. The previous version of these shoes were among the best I've ever owned. What's the point of changing something that's working? Booooo. I'm pretty sure I'll come back.
First and foremost, I adore the fit of all Salomon shoes; they appear to be ready to wear right out of the box. A big plus is the speed lace system. For more than a decade, I've been using Salomon 3D variants. I also have their hiking boots, other shoes, and ski equipment, which my wife and kids use. That being said, the V8 version of these shoes should undoubtedly be a source of embarrassment for Salomon. Aside from the poor tread life, every pair of 3D shoes I've ever owned has worn out around my big toe joint. This area eventually breaks down, revealing my socks as the fabric opens up. With the previous version of the shoe, Salomon finally fixed the problem by adding an extra layer of fabric in that area. This was fantastic, but I should've purchased multiple pairs. The new version does not have this extra fabric, and it appears that the fabric is less expensive, as well as the soles wearing out faster. In less than 200 miles of hiking, the shoes tore on both sides of the toe joints, and the tread was nearly gone. This is extremely dissatisfying because the price of the shoes continues to rise, but the quality appears to be deteriorating? I suppose it's time to look for a different option.
These shoes make me feel like Frankenstein in comparison to my Merrill minimalist trail running shoes. They resemble lightweight hiking boots rather than trail running shoes in my opinion. Furthermore, they continue to give me blisters after several outings. When I use the Merrills, I am used to getting a jolt of pain and bruises on my toes and soles of my feet when I step hard on a small rock or accidentally kick a rock, but these shoes do protect your toes and soles of your feet very well. The lace detail is another feature of these shoes that appeals to me. I enjoy not having to tie my shoes' laces or having them come undone. Overall, I'd say these shoes have a mix of benefits and drawbacks; I'll keep them for hiking, but I'll also invest in a new pair of running shoes.
Over the last few years, I've owned 5 or 6 pairs of Xa Pros and continue to do so. I use these on trails and sidewalks every day for a 2-mile morning walk and a 2-mile evening walk. Later in the day, I'll go for a 3-mile walk/run/hike (helped along by my goldendoodle!). I get hundreds of miles out of each pair before the tread wears down and I need to replace them. It's very light and airy. br>br>I'm getting a new pair, but I noticed the last pair (purchased in April of this year) had some quality issues that I'm hoping have been resolved. The inner ankle mesh and padding, as well as the tongue stitching, have all worn away to the point where the plastic support is exposed. Both of these things didn't happen on previous pairs, but I get a lot of use out of them, so these issues might not show up with less frequent use. br>br>Over the years, I've also owned a couple of pairs of Adidas trail shoes with a similar lacing system. That was their weak spot, and after the pinching mechanism failed in both pairs, they were rendered useless. Even after a lot of use, I haven't had any issues with the Salomon lacing system.
As expected, it fit perfectly. I'm tired of annihilating Nike and other well-known brands. I work for a company that requires me to squat, climb stairs, and ladders all day. br>I used Solomon for backpack hunting in the past, and they're still in great shape after three years, so it was an easy decision to go with them for tough work shoes. br>I wear a size 10 and the fit and feel are perfect. They are number 5 and number 10. The number 5 was ideal. br>The best part is that I'm not supporting anti-American shoe companies with my money.
I've had my Salomons for a long time and enjoy wearing them. The updated version of the XA PRO 3D was recently purchased by me. There have been some mixed reviews, and I understand why: this model appears to be manufactured more "simply" than previous models, and thus may not feel as "solid" as previous models. Despite this, the shoe is very comfortable, the shoe bed is very sturdy, and the support is excellent. Because this is a new item, it's difficult to say how long it will last. The profile of the shoe's sole has been known to wear out first in the past (and this has been confirmed by other reviews), so the XA PRO 3D is a good choice for a running and hiking shoe all around.
Very. Best. Ever. I've worn Nike shoes for the majority of my life, but the quality and comfort have deteriorated significantly in the last two years. I walk 8- When I run 12 miles per day in Nikes, my feet begin to ache after the first 3 miles and blisters form. I tried on their casual, running, and training shoes, but they were all too small for me. They were comfortable for casual wear, but any cardio would reveal their flaws. br>br>Then a colleague recommended Salomon shoes, which I wore loosely at first and gradually tightened throughout the day to help break them in. I took a 5-mile morning walk the following day. The transformation was dramatic and immediate. It helped support my knees and back and relieved my aching feet and blisters. I'll never wear anything else but Salomons again!.
