Questions & Answers
To be honest, cleats would be preferable. Others will be faster at changing directions if they have cleats. However, I use the speedcross for disc golf, and they perform admirably on trails, roots, rocks, and grass. When you don't need hiking boots, these are also comfortable for light hiking. br>br>If you're playing a casual game of ultimate and the majority of the other players are wearing tennis shoes, these will most likely give you an advantage. Get cleats if you're playing in a league.
Order the magnet/black/phantom, as these aren't as wide as the others.
The majority of vendors offer free returns.
Not in the least! Very good for trails, but I walk 5 miles every day and the rubber wore out after 180 miles!

Look no further if you're looking for a trail shoe that'll perform well right out of the box. br>br>I compete in Spartan races and do a lot of hiking and trail running, so I needed a new pair of shoes to help me reach my objectives. These items are incredible. br>br>Today I went for a 4-mile hike/trail run. The traction was exceptional for the first time I wore them. It was perfect over rocks and through mud; I caught my foot on some rocks and roots when I started to tire (after climbing a mountain and returning down) and didn't feel a thing. br>br>Over the speedcross 4, the new and higher heel is fantastic. I was able to help climb that mountain without having to worry about my shoes slipping on each step. Back down, the new and improved lugs dug right in and kept my feet under control without making me feel like I was losing control. br>br>The true test will come when I compete in the Spartan Super in Virginia. After that run, I'll revise my review. However, as far as I can tell, these are the genuine article. If you're debating whether or not to get them, take the plunge. Use your regular shoe size. br>br>On a side note, I tried on the Altra Lone Peak latest version and didn't like how it felt. The Hoka One One speedgoat 3s were also tried. Both of them fell short of my expectations. Normally, I keep my running to a bare minimum, but these Salomon Speedcross 5s exceeded my expectations. Get 'em if you can!.
First and foremost, these are fantastic shoes. I made it up Old Rag in Virginia after an 11-mile hike counterclockwise. It's raining! I breezed through the wet boulder scramble, losing traction only in the most perilous of circumstances. They also ruined the mud slope on the way down. The lugs dug into the mud, allowing me to skip, run, and jump down the slope that had claimed the lives of so many others earlier in the day. They're a good fit, and we're at ease in them. br>br>As I previously stated, everything was perfect until the insoles that came with the shoes disintegrated and bunched up around my toes. I would remove them to readjust, but after a couple hundred feet downhill, they would bunch up again. The soles were cutting up my big toes, so I had to take them off eventually. They were a tad more uncomfortable without the insoles. br>br>They would have been a solid 10/10 if this hadn't happened. But, since I'm being picky, I'll give it a 9 out of 10. 8/10. Good: br>br> br>Comfortablebr>Capablebr>Excellent at handling mud and wet rocksbr>br>Bad: br>On the downhill portion, the insoles detachbr>They aren't the prettiestbr>I couldn't figure out where to put the string once I tightened them. (I am willing to remove this “bad” if I just missed something but the tiny loop on the tongue of the shoe wasn ideal)

These babies have a boot-like tread! Unfortunately, I found the tread to be a little TOO gnarly for a sneaker with such a narrow design and high heel. Yes, it grips the ground like a boot, but I've found that walking in rocky terrain with these makes it much easier to twist your ankle. Also, the "laces" are intriguing, but if they ever broke or came apart, it would be a disaster! They're very thin, but because you can't re-use them, they have to be very strong. lace up a new pair if your old ones are worn out! Traditional laces, in my opinion, are the best for cinching up your shoe and replacing them if something goes wrong. Hopefully, this 'new lace' design will not become popular! br>br>My main gripe is that the sole is made of a very hard material with a large tread pattern and an elevated heal for a very narrow shoe, making it uncomfortable and easy to twist your ankle on rocky terrain.
It's a nice cushion, but it's not overbearing. The support was excellent, and the laces stayed in place. I managed to get through a couple of puddles without getting wet. I ran 10 miles straight out of the box with no pain. br> *I did a few miles on pavement and they were fine, but this would not be my first choice for concrete.
Salomon surprised me with how poorly made his product was. After unboxing, the shoe lasted 30 minutes before the seams came loose. Worse, I'm serving overseas and have no way of returning this Chinese junk because I don't have access to outgoing mail. The images speak for themselves - It was too much to put on for 30 minutes. The material on the sidewall (3rd photo) popped loose and bubbled out. After years of wearing salomons, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Excellent footwear. If you've ever owned a pair of Speedcross 4, you'll love these. They have a similar feel to the 4s, but with a noticeably more impact-absorbing heal. I like how the basic black pair is mostly black, with only a few color accents. The rainbow colored logo strip running down the tongue, as well as the reflective lettering and toe marker, were two of my least favorite features of previous speedcross models, which have been removed on the speedcross 5. This is a fantastic call. The majority of the improvements made this time around are minor when compared to the speedcross 4s, which are fantastic shoes in their own right. The 5s aren't worth trading up all your pairs of 4s for, and if you can find 4s for a much better price, I'd buy them instead. If you're in the market for a new pair and don't mind spending an extra $20 or so over an older generation, the 5s are a great option.
They're very light, fit perfectly, and feel as if I'm wearing 'new shoes' even after months of heavy use. I'd heard good things about these shoes from people I'd worked out with, but hadn't gotten around to purchasing them until recently. I can confidently say that after several months of use, these are the best shoes I've ever owned. They are durable, despite their lightness, and they really help your feet if you're on them for a long time. I used my first pair for working out, and I recently purchased another pair to wear on a daily basis. The shoes are fantastic.
