I just wanted to add my voice to those who found this shoe to be a little too small. I adore Altra shoes and have a half-dozen pairs. My shoe size is a ten. I am 5 feet tall and wear a size 11 shoe. Every pair of Altras I own is a size 11 with a perfect toebox, but this one puts pressure on the top of my big toe. I'm not sure if this shoe has less vertical clearance, or if it has an awkwardly placed seam, or if it's a combination of both. Maybe with a little more wear, but just sitting with them on and feeling the pressure on the top of my toe was driving me insane. These were a fail for me because I buy Altra's to avoid thinking about my toes. The rest of the shoe fits like a perfect size 11, so I'm wondering if ordering a half-size up would make the shoe too big.
With even a smidgeon of moisture on the ground, I felt like I was walking in new dress shoes right out of the box. It was strange; I'd never experienced anything like it in a trail shoe before. I was hoping that putting some miles on them and scuffing them up would help. It did. To a lesser extent. In a very limited way. After putting 20-minutes into it, Despite the fact that they have a lot of miles on them, they have terrible traction. I can't put my faith in them for anything other than bone-marrow transplants. The weather is dry. As the frost season approaches, I'm not sure I can trust them. br>br>I purchased a pair of Altra Lone Peak 4 hiking boots. Last winter, I bought a pair of 5s and thought I'd found a brand that I'd stick with for the rest of my life. It didn't bother me that their color schemes appeared to have come from Sherwin Williams' leftover bin. Regrettably, they appear to be more focused on releasing new models every few months, rather than taking pride in what they already do well, as do so many other companies. Selling ten mediocre shoes is thought to be more profitable than selling seven excellent shoes. I would have gladly bought a pair of Lone Peak 4s. For a decade, you'll get 5s every nine months. Altra appears to have moved on, unfortunately. I suppose I'll follow Altra's lead.
I've been wearing Altra and Lone Peak shoes for a few years and have loved every pair until now! The tongue is attached to the inside wall of the shoe; however, there is no tab on the heel to assist you in getting your foot into the shoe without smashing the heel down, which is difficult if you have wide feet like me. Unfortunately, I had to leave for a business trip before they arrived, and I was unable to return them because I was gone for a month.
7 pairs of these Altra superior shoes have been worn out, and I'm still trying to kill 5 pairs that are always durable. In the local forest preserves, I run on easy trails. From 5- Every week, I walk 18 miles. I'm a big guy who weighs around 230 pounds most of the time.
Altras is one of my favorite brands. This is the second time I've purchased a pair in this style. They were a little small, but I was aware of this and ordered a half-size larger. br>Altras are incredibly comfortable thanks to their zero drop and wide toe box. After 100s of miles of hiking and trail running, the tread on my previous pair was completely worn off. br>These shoes are surprisingly slippery on wet smooth surfaces, but I live in the desert, so this rarely affects my outdoor enjoyment.
Trail runner with a great personality. I like the "foot shape," though it's not exactly like mine (if your middle toe is longer than your big toe, it's not ideal), and the "stone guard" was way too big to fit in the shoe, which is strange. Because the tongue is attached along one side of its length, it can be difficult to get it to lay comfortably at times. Good traction. It will be interesting to see how long they last.
This is a brand that I will definitely purchase again!.
ALTRA is something I should have purchased a long time ago. These shoes are designed for trail runners who prefer to run on their front pads. If you're a heel-wearing woman, this is probably not the best option. runner on the attack.
