Selected User Reviews For ALTRA Men's AL0A4VQM Olympus 4 Trail Running Shoe
For 450 miles of my Pacific Northwest Trail thru-hike, the Olympus was an excellent shoe. My most serious issue was with the mesh upper, which turned a minor tear into an irreversible, catastrophic failure after 40 miles. Is it likely that I'll go on another hike with them? Probably not. . . they were decent, but not outstanding. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, the Lone Peaksbr>The shoe is as light and breathable as the popular Altra Lone Peaks, but with a stiffer, higher cushion midsole. sole. The vibram sole is also much more durable and reliable than the one on the Lone Peaks. However, the price difference is significant for a shoe that lasts roughly the same amount of time, especially if you're replacing trail shoes every 400-500 miles. When you're traveling 500 miles, every penny counts. br>br>In comparison to the Altra Paradigmsbr>I love my Altra Paradigms for city walking and was hoping the Olympus would be a good trail shoe. The midsole of the Olympus is built similarly, and the mesh upper is almost identical. The Olympus is truly distinguished by its lugged Vibram sole. However, the mesh, which is ideal for city miles, does not hold up to the trail's abuse.
I don't mean to disparage Altra; I adore the Olympus 4. However, when I ordered a new blue/gray set, I received a pale green set that was slightly scuffed. I'd be happy with any color, as these are currently in short supply. Zappos was a seller on Amazon. This is a schizophrenic review, to say the least.
A lovely shoe emerges from the box. These were a lot of fun to run in for at least 200 miles. The upper is quite durable, and there are no problems with it. My pair is around 40-years-old in terms of the sole. After 50 of 200 miles (mostly offroad), 50% of the food was chewed up. br>I'm not going to get any blisters. br>I really like the rock guard! If you run on bumpy terrain, this is a must-have. br>This is, in my opinion, the most comfortable Altra trail shoe. br>On the downside, if they run in mud, they gain 10 pounds each. Pulling the laces tightens past the second or third eyelet, which is a flaw in the lacing scheme.
The shoes are well-fitting, and they are superior to the previous generation. The colors are beautiful, and they are very comfortable to wear on the trails.
I'm hoping that this company continues to produce outstanding footwear. I appreciate how they design shoes that are foot-shaped and take into account how feet move naturally.
The product is excellent.
This is a fantastic pair of shoes. I have foot problems and go hiking at least once a week for 10 to 20 miles. My foot problems have been reduced as a result of wearing this shoe. I strongly advise you to do so.
