This is aspen that has been shredded.
That's what I think. I have this bedding as well as an undertank heating pad. The only problem I ever had was with a heat rock that went berserk and overheated (I didn't have a thermostat at the time). Even so, there were no issues with the bedding. The snake appears to be in good spirits. I like how the bag says "1 preferred snake bedding," as if the snakes were polled on their preferences:

Because it is safe and non-toxic, I use this bedding with our snakes (sand boas and corn snakes). Even if they eat some, there will be no negative consequences. It's also a fantastic place for them to burrow. The tunnels are not prone to collapsing. I simply spot clean any wet or pooped-on bedding and replace it with fresh.
