This bedding has a very strong scent to it. The smell hit me like a ton of bricks when I opened the box it came in. It has the scent of a swarm of elderly ladies donning flea market perfume. My shirt clung to the odor so tightly that I had to wash it twice to get rid of it. br>br>That had a strong odor to it for ME. My rats, who were the intended recipients of the bedding, have far more sensitive noses than I do. Rats and other small animals can develop respiratory problems as a result of strong odors. When you spray air freshener in the same room as their cage, it can make them feel uncomfortable. I'm not going to put this stuff anywhere near my pets because I love them so much. br>br>I believe that selling this stuff, let alone marketing it to small animals, is irresponsible on the part of this company. In the future, I will not purchase Kaytee products.
We only have one guinea pig, so I used this bedding instead of our usual Carefresh after cleaning the cage completely. The cage reeked like a barn after only two days. It also has a consistency that is similar to tissue paper. So it not only stinks, but it also doesn't hold up to moisture. It appears to be flying around the cage as well. There's a lot of it! I should have just stuck with what I'm familiar with; I just wanted to try something new. Now I'm back to ordering my regular stuff and reserving the remainder of this for emergency use only!.
I was hoping that it would live up to the expectations set forth in the package. Advantages: br>br> It's softbr>br>Cons: It's softbr>br> br>It looks like standard paper bedding to me. Cleaning the cage and litter pans was like scooping up soaked mushy paper because it doesn't absorb well (it actually stays wet). br>It does not have an odor. There's no way this lasts 14 days without smelling, more like 1 or 12 hours. br>br>I changed the litter every 2 days. I had to go back to changing it every day after three days because it still smelled terrible, defeating the purpose of purchasing this bedding. It is soft, so I gave it two stars.
They rip it to shreds, leaving a pile of shredded toilet paper in their master's hands, which he disposes of in a large clear garbage bag. They exclaim, "Whoa!" They get an idea and scrawl gibberish and draw pictures on the bag as quickly as they can. Then? They have it sold as bedding on Amazon, of course. a bag full of shredded paper br>br>Can you imagine a gimmick like that? That, at least, appears to be the case. Paper flew out of the bag as soon as it was opened, scattering in small pieces all over the room. I just vacuumed it, so there's no need to be concerned. And so on, until the vacuum bag was completely filled in under two weeks. (Due to the paper, I vacuum every day. ) Don't throw your money away! br>br> It does not absorb, is difficult to clean, and causes the vacuum cleaner to become clogged. Worse, it causes the rabbits to become overcrowded!.
I wish I could give this product a higher rating, but I honestly can't tell the difference between this and regular bedding. I have a pet rat that I keep in a cage in my bedroom, so odor control is very important to me. Unfortunately, it does not appear to function as intended. I'll probably keep buying it in the hopes of a placebo effect, but at the price, I'm not sure it's worth it.
My daughter's mice used to stink like a regular kaytee bedfing, but now they don't!.
After trying a few different beddings, I decided to go with this one because of the price and odor control. My hamster was perfectly healthy before switching, but his eye became infected and shut down just a few days later. This was unusual for me as a vet tech, and I tried cleaning his eye several times without success. I believe the infection spread because he died after only two weeks of having an eye infection. I'm heartbroken, and because he was healthy and I didn't change his food, I'm blaming it on the bedding. (A video of my poor baby's eye is included. ).
This bedding irritates me to no end. There are two male rats in our household. Before putting new bedding in their cage, I clean it thoroughly to remove any waste. This bedding, on the other hand, is a disaster! The cage began to smell WORSE than it had ever smelled after a few days. I figured it was their stench from their grass hut or hammock, so I tried removing those items for washing and then leaning the cage. Nope. The cage began to stink again a few days later. I'm just going to stick with my 50/50 paper/aspen mix for now. This item is not even close to being worth the money.
