In fact, I buy ASIN B00O4MRLK2 for pet bedding. Fleas, ticks, and even mites seem to be repelled by cedar.
Our previous dwarf hamster used this bedding from the beginning to the end of his life, which was just over two years, so I wouldn't worry. I've also heard that paper bedding and cedar chips can both be problematic for hamsters and guinea pigs, so Aspen is probably the best option.
We do not recommend using this as cat litter.

When I first bought the hamster from the pet store, the salesman was flinging all kinds of hamster-related items at me. My entire bedroom reeked of ammonia, also known as "Hamster Urine," after only two days. PEW. Even swallowing was difficult for me. I was like, "What did this guy sell me as bedding?" "Wet napkins," I thought. I had no idea that the type of bedding you use made such a difference. So, being the Amazonian shopper that I am for everything else, I set out to find absorbent, high-quality hamster bedding. And then there was this. It's reasonably priced and has received positive feedback. I weigh the good against the bad, and if the good outweighs the bad, I go for it. With Prime, the item I ordered arrived the next day. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I'm not exaggerating when I say. Change your hamster bedding once a week, according to Google, but who wants to sit in their own urine six days a week, hamster or not? As a result, I switch every two weeks. I did a test with this new bedding to see how absorbent and odor-controlling it was. I had to sniff extra hard close to her cage after four days just to make sure she peed. BUYING ON AMAZON IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. Was $6. I paid 48 for a year and then they raised the price to $11 without informing me, which I ended up paying for three bags at that price because of subscribe and save, so I'm canceling my subscription, but buyer beware. You could get twice as much for half the price somewhere else. In any case, I've been using this bedding for years with my pet rats. They handle it well, and the odor control is excellent. There isn't much dust here. Burrowing material of high quality.
However, because these shavings were significantly less expensive than the ones I usually buy, I decided to give it a shot. These shavings are far more appealing to my chinchillas. They've improved their use of their little boxes, and I'm pretty sure they eat more shavings than hay (before peeing in it, of course). This is a big hit with our two gerbils! It appeals to me because it does not emit a foul odor in my home. When we first arrived, I was concerned that my home would smell like a rodent, but it does not. It's super absorbent, and when I clean the cage, it's dry and blends in nicely with the cardboard shards and toilet paper rolls they enjoy.
For my hamster's bedding, I used this as the base layer. I covered it with paper bedding. The aspen is effective and helps to control odors. It has a slight woody odor, which is to be expected. This bedding is a good option if you can't afford to cover the entire hamster cage in paper bedding.
As a result, I make the decision to purchase another. The second bedding I purchased differs from the first. As a result, I'm hoping for the same level of quality as when I first purchased it. (For burrowing, my female python prefers a lot of aspen beneath her hides. ) It's also great when it's wet. br>br> Because my snake requires humidity, I simply pour a cup of water into the aspen, which absorbs it and does not stink or become moldy.
