Because all of the stones are different shapes and sizes, this would vary from bag to bag. In a 1-pound bag There are typically 20 to 40 stones per 3 inch stone, but this number can vary depending on the size of the stones. We make every effort to ensure that each 2 pound bag contains a good balance of smaller and larger stones. bag.
Although slate has sharp edges, fish do not normally rub up against it.br>If you are concerned, use water rounded stones instead.
These will not hold down plans in a live plant tank, but you can build up a section and back fill with substrate and gravel for a deeper root bed (which is what I did). For me, lead anchor tape is the best option.
Because of the shipping and handling, your slate will most likely be dusty when it arrives. Despite the fact that our slate was washed prior to packaging, it is always a good idea to thoroughly wash (water only) and scrub any aquarium decor you intend to use, including our slate. Make sure the water is hot. You can soak if you like (it won't hurt), but it's not required.

For my 5-gallon planted tank, the stones were ideal. I only wish I had found this item before going to PetSmart and wasting money on stones that are now sitting in a bucket in my garage, about to be thrown into my yard; I couldn't find these at any of the local aquarium stores, chain or independent. I'll definitely be purchasing more of these stones if/when my tank is upgraded in size. I wasn't sure which size to get at first, but thanks to the picture the seller posted of actual stone sizes, I got it right the first time. Excellent seller, excellent product, and excellent price!.
These are fantastic stones and a fantastic value for money! The size and quantity of stones are clearly stated in the description, and 2 lbs of stones is a lot more than I expected. These were used as aquarium decorations, and they look great in a planted tank. I was able to choose from a variety of sizes and shapes, and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I despise negative reviews for great items simply because the buyer failed to read the description!.
Amazing! I was pleasantly surprised by how much better it was than I had anticipated. For the price, you get a lot of slate, in a variety of shapes and sizes. They've made me very happy.
I bought these for my turtle tank because the reviews said they were a good idea, but something told me to wash them first, so I did, and the water was EXTREMELY cloudy, even after soaking them for 24 hours. I was so annoyed that I threw them away and went to Petco to get the real rocks my turtle required. Don't try to be cheap, I've learned my lesson. Simply purchase the genuine article. br> These rocks are more suited to rock painting or garden decor.
It's just a piece of slate rock, but it's all natural and perfect for my box turtle terrarium. I was given the small critter (she's about the size of a half dollar) and had no idea what to do with her. So, after doing some research, I bought her a HUGE 36-inch terrarium and filled it with all kinds of coconut fiber "dirt," topped it with moss, and added some of these slate rock pieces, which I carefully placed in "steps" to allow the little one to climb (not too high), but just enough to give her the impression she's basking on a rock in the "sun" of her lamps. They are something she enjoys. MUST RINSE OFF WELL BEFORE USING AS THEY CONTAIN WHITE DUST AND MAY CONTAIN TINY, BROKEN BITES FROM THE ENDS. They're fantastic in general. Some are 3 inches long, while others are only 1 1/2 inch long, but they can all fit inside your "critter dome" in whatever way you want. LOL. If your turtle is small, such as mine, don't pile them too high; just enough to keep her busy. I also put one or two inside her bathing dish to make it easier for her to get in and out.
This was an excellent collection of rocks of various sizes and thicknesses. In my betta tank, they performed admirably. A cave has been created by stacking a 5 pound package of larger rocks and a 2 pound package of smaller rocks.
Would I pay $16 for a 2 pound bag of stones if I saw them in the store? No, most likely not. However, they look nice in my aquarium and provide a good "cave" for shrimp in a 10 gallon tank. It was a reasonable price for my use, compared to the average aquarium decor.
The bag contained about 15 rocks (which was more than I had anticipated). The smaller ones were perfect for preventing a landslide around my small hill, and I still had enough larger ones to make the cave and some background pieces. I'm very happy.
