We used bedding to line ours and only used a heat lamp to keep it warm. It's a big hit with our two snakes. They're always in the rock for us to find.
This hide is a favorite of our 650g ball python.
I have a 6-inch-long leopard gecko who adores her large Zilla lair, which she shares with a smaller leopard gecko.

Colonel Sarge, my 521 gram Hidden Gene Woma Ball Python's favorite hide, fits with plenty of room to spare even with sphagnum moss in the hide. It's impossible to take good photos of him in his enclosure because it's so dark. I've included photos to show how they compare to the ExoTerra Large Snake Cave. br>br>Update:
Col. Sarge, who weighs around 1,000 grams, still adores this hide, even if he does occasionally knock the lid off-kilter while moving around in it.
I chose the large rock lair so that my gecko could expand without having to upgrade later. It's a big and heavy thing. It takes up a lot of room, but she can walk around it freely, and she enjoys it. She sleeps there the majority of her nights. It appears that liquid is leaking from it? Or do you want to soak it up? I haven't decided yet. However, I dampen the moss in there with water to make it all humid, and the sand around it eventually appears damp. I simply add a small amount at a time. It's best if it's distilled. The only problem I have with this setup is that the crickets love to hide inside and chirp all night.
It's become one of his favorites! Its ability to insulate itself is a major plus. Yesterday, I allowed the ceramic bulb above it to become overheated. The temperature on top of the rock was over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, but it was a steady 84 degrees Fahrenheit inside where he lay. It's only been four weeks since he's been with me. Three of those weeks, I believe, we've had the rock. Only when he pops out do I see him leave it. take hold of his meal While I'm sleeping, I'm sure he gets a drink, but I haven't seen him anywhere else in the tank. When he's taken away, he discovers it in a matter of minutes. curls up again I chose the large size. I'm sure it'll be something he keeps for the rest of his life. My only complaint so far is that when I use paper towels to clean the exterior, the surface is so rough that the towels shred. My little guy crawls right over the rough exterior, and the interior is relatively smooth, so I don't think it's a problem for him. I'm hoping that it will be ideal for assisting with his sheds! Fair warning: if your snake is anything like mine, he'll be very protective of his rock. Because I won't be putting my fingers in the opening, lifting the top may be difficult. I'll have to try to grab it from the opposite side; it shouldn't be too difficult, but I'll have to be very careful. It has a substantial weight to it. The advantages outnumber the disadvantages by a significant margin. This rock is likely to be a favorite of your BP's as well!.
I'll admit that I feel bad for giving it four instead of five stars. Only 4/5 because the insides would be perfect for shedding if they were ceramic coated! My girl outgrew her ceramic hide, which was ideal for hiding in the shed, but she seems to like it and can get in and out quickly. Despite the fact that I *can* lift off the top, I was grateful to find a hide that is dark and private for her. Please accept my sincere regrets! When I take the top off, it terrifies her, but we've had to go to the vet a lot recently. On both long sides, there are a couple of tiny holes. I believe they are for the purpose of venting, but they are insignificant. It's a shambles! Lol.
This was well worth the $40 investment! I purchased the large, which is larger than I anticipated, but I have a California king snake, which is long (40ish inches) and thin, so he fits perfectly in here. It has a lot of weight. It appears to be simple to clean. If you're unsure, go for the larger size.
This is a heavy hide, but it comes in two pieces, making it simple to check on your animal by lifting the top. The inside is not glazed, but it is smooth. A rough texture can be found on the outside and on the ramp. When the item arrived, a small portion of the cover's lip was broken, and the outside of the cover has a chip. The box this item was in was upside down inside the large outer box, and the broken pieces were inside the box, so it most likely happened during transit. I kept the item because it didn't appear to have any sharp edges that could harm my snake. My snake is a 4-foot adult male California Kingsnake, and he fits comfortably inside the hide. I like how this hide looks in the enclosure, and because it has a floor, it can be used as a humidity box with some damp moss added.
Reptiles will love these hides. They are smooth on the inside, so there are no sharp edges to poke your scale bables. br>They're also simple to clean and appear to hold up well when soaked. I have several of these and occasionally use the tops as decorative "rocks. "br>The largest size easily fits my full-sized Columbian Rainbow Boa. The smaller ones are suitable for smaller ball pythons, full-grown hognoses, and mid-sized corn snakes, for example.
Although I do not use this product for warm hide, it is technically possible to do so. I have two hides (one for quarantine and the other for bioactive). My LG enjoys spending time in this hide, and my AFT enjoys shedding in it. You won't have much trouble with your LG or AFT shedding after getting this hide, but if you're using it for humid hide, remember to spray it down every day.
