The coat fits my dog well around her girth and across her chest; the Velcro opening for the neck is a little loose, but the chest and under her belly fit nicely. Her short legs protrude from the leg holes as she walks, so I believe they are too big. She can't walk because her leg is stuck inside, or it comes out through the neck opening! I wouldn't order a smaller size because it would be too small and I wouldn't be able to return it because I'd already worn it. Leg openings with elastic would be far more comfortable. Her leg popped out six times during a two-block walk. It was a waste of money.
Simply stating the size's relationship to the feature would be beneficial! (16" - > for what reason - What are the dimensions of your chest, length, and neck, as well as any other features? I assumed the size number was related to the length because no specifics were given, only representative dog breeds (which is basically useless because each breed and dog varies significantly). This is not the case. I own a 16-pound dachshund - a "tweener" is a term used to describe someone who is in the middle of something I got the 16 because he isn't a small dog and has a long back, and the chart showed a size 18 for a small corgi, so I figured I'd go down one size. It's a colossal amount of space! Because this isn't a cheap coat, it's extremely frustrating. The jacket is very nice - even the el cheapo brands provide three measurements (neck, chest, and length) and then relate them to a specific size. I'd give it a five-star rating, but I'm only giving it three stars because of the useless size chart and the hassle of returning it. I'm not sure I want to take another guess and risk having to go through this all over again.
Otherwise, this is a fantastic coat. I was sent the incorrect size at first, but Amazon quickly corrected it. Overall, this is a high-quality, well-made coat with a fluid-repellent material. Because we live in Thailand, thunderstorms can be extremely violent. The coat length was ideal, but the area around my dog's belly was far too large, causing the coat to rotate around her, soaking her from the waist down. To make the coat fit better, I'll be adding a few Velcro fasteners, and I'm hoping Canada Pooch will consider doing something similar (adjustable belts or velcro fasteners) so that dog owners can customize their fits. I have several dogs with similar lengths but different girths, so that would be extremely useful, and I'd be willing to pay a premium for it.
This was the only raincoat I could find that covered both the dog's belly and back, which was an important feature for me. I don't need a coat to keep his fur dry; I just need one to keep him looking cute. This raincoat appears to be up to the task. Unfortunately, because the closure is on the dog's belly, it's extremely difficult to put on and take off, especially since it's velcro. If your dog has any fuzziness, velcro and that fuzziness aren't going to get along. For my other dog, I have a small down vest that zips up the back and is a breeze to put on and take off. I understand that a zipper on the back could allow rain to infiltrate, but we've managed to avoid this problem with human clothing, so I'm confident that we can do the same with dog clothing.
However, I believe that you get what you pay for when it comes to dog raincoats. So I paid for a Canadian-made coat that I assumed would be well-made. Was it? Sort of. The piping around the coat started to come off after two washes in the washing machine. And because the piping is made of plastic rather than fabric, it isn't just "frayed," but is literally falling apart after two washes. No dryer. For a 13-pound city dog who enjoys strolling down the sidewalk. You're not going to tell me that when a dog's raincoat gets dirty, it has to be washed by hand? To be fair, the coat's body has held up well after being worn almost daily for the past three months of Seattle's rainy season. However, the fraying and peeling that occurred within the first month was not what I had anticipated from this company. It's a three-star coat that's "good enough. " However, it is a little more expensive than "okay. " "It's not worth the money, in my opinion. ".
This is a lovely little coat that has been well-made. The materials are fantastic. I got a size 16 for my 18lb, 4mo old goldendoodle puppy, and both the exterior and interior are lightweight, supple, and silky soft, with perfect stitching. The length is slightly shorter than I prefer, but it would have been too big in the girth if I had ordered a size larger. However, it is perfectly wearable as is, keeping her neck, shoulders, belly, chest, and the majority of her back dry. I particularly like how well the belly is covered. The coat is fairly simple to put on, though you will need to guide your dog's paws and legs through the armholes, which could be a problem if your dog dislikes having his feet messed with. When my puppy walks and goes to the bathroom, the double velcro strips ensure a secure closure, and the coat lies flat and does not move or twist. When unfurled, the hood positions the visor too low over her eyes, so I don't use it, but there's a handy snap that keeps it out of the way. Touches like the snap, functional pockets, and a stitched slit on the back for leash attachment to a harness, as well as the quality of the stitching and materials, all speak to the care and consideration that went into the design and manufacture of this coat. However, I should mention that I employ a Freedom No- The top leash attachment ring on my puppy's Pull Harness is a little too far forward of the slit to be useful - When she's wearing her coat, I just clip the leash to her collar. This is my first purchase from this company, and I'm very pleased with the quality. I chose the 20" for my 29-pound Corgi. The fit is a little loose, but not so much that sizing down would be necessary, and the Velcro allows for some adjustment. She feels instantly at ease in it, walks normally, and it conceals her chest floof. I considered another brand with sleeves, but I believe the lack of sleeves makes this much more comfortable and functional, so we'll use it more often.
