Michael, the unit is well-sealed and operates inline outside of the pool. You'll need to make sure your hose connections to the unit are airtight, or you'll pull air in and lose some vacuum. Both in and out of the water, I've used the canister. For the price, this is an excellent product.
You might be able to find it at a pool supply shop.
It is compatible with Hayward's pool cleaner. For the past 8 years, I've had an inline filter attached to my Hayward Pool Cleaner. Only certain debris, such as palm fronts, massive leaves, and rocks, clog the Hayward.
If you can't adapt it to fit a standard hose, it's a useless product. Please let me know if you succeed, as I was not. I have another one for sale that is in its original packaging and has never been used.

This item is a fraction of the size of the hayward inline leaf filter it replaces. It's well made, but separating the top from the body to clean the undersized net filter is nearly impossible, even with "O" ring lube applied. Sadly, both time and money were wasted. I'd give it zero stars if it were possible, but it does work (since it's inert and doesn't have any moving parts, I assume), and it might be better suited to a smaller above-ground pool, but that wasn't stated.
However, turning the top and pulling the clip to empty the debris collected is nearly impossible. Even if you don't have to pull the clip, rotating the top to the open position is extremely difficult because the top is rounded and smooth, with no leverage to grasp the topside and rotate it to the open position. I tried and tried, but I couldn't get it to work. I don't see how this product could be manufactured without this flaw being recognized as a major flaw. If you don't have a bionic grip, I wouldn't recommend this product to you!.
There is a manual vac in the pool. I bought this because the original one I bought had large 2in hose connections and I already had a standard vacuum hose. I'm not sure if it's for the skimmer or the vac hose, but it comes with a one-foot connection. It served no purpose at all. Because this device does not seal, you'll need a 3' or 4' hose to connect it to the skimmer underwater. The standard hose connection is then incorrectly sized, as it should be 1 1/4 in or smaller. This was completely useless to me, and the description of what I was getting was extremely misleading. I wish I had read the other reviews first, because I will not be purchasing parts from US Pool Supply again.
I spent two hours and made two trips to the hardware store to buy parts, spending nearly twice as much as I did on the canister, and it still doesn't work. If you buy a second hose, it will be too long, resulting in a loss of suction; if you chop the second hose into a smaller piece, you will need to purchase connectors to connect it. Silicone cement should be used around the new joint because it will leak air, causing pressure loss and allowing air into the pump. The blue hose, like the black seal, is nearly useless. The blue hose does not provide an airtight seal, and the black seal, which is supposed to help, kinks up and allows air into the line; they would have been better served by having a 4-inch hose. The 5' connector connects directly to the pump, eliminating the need for a connector.
S. PROFESSIONAL IN-HOUSE POOL SUPPLY To go with the XtremepowerUS Premium Automatic Suction Vacuum, there's a Pool Leaf Canister. After buying the vacuum, I realized I needed something to catch the debris so my pump wouldn't get clogged. I looked through all of the different types and discovered that many of them required an adaptor to connect to the vacuum hoses and/or were difficult to open. There are no additional pieces required to connect this canister to the hose. It's fantastic! Until I checked the canister bag, I had no idea there was so much debris in my pool. It is capable of catching everything! Despite the fact that my pool didn't appear to be dirty, I had to empty it twice during pool cleaning. Because it is simple to open and connect to the vacuum hoses, I HIGHLY recommend this canister. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot. You will not be disappointed!.
First and foremost, the mesh bag excels at catching even the tiniest bits of sand and debris. However, you should clean it at least once a day, if not twice a day. If you don't, the suction and flow will be drastically reduced. Also, remove the mesh bag and wash it by hand on a regular basis, or it will stink in less than a week. The mesh bag is optional, but I recommend weighing its utility against how easy it will be to clean your large external filter. When putting the cap back on after cleaning it, make sure it's just hand tight. It will be extremely difficult to remove after it has been in the water if you go for a good snug hand tight fit. I've never come off with only a light grip on my hands.

The product is made of some of the lowest-quality plastic I've ever seen in a pool product, and it's extremely brittle. The ring that screws on to keep the lid in place is very thin, and if you don't handle it carefully, it will break. Chips ran along the top and bottom edges of the outer transparent structure, indicating poor mold quality and/or possible damage during production and prior to boxing. br>br>Apart from the brittle plastic, the biggest issue is that the intake and outflow fittings are different sizes. Neither of them matched a 1 in any way. A pool vacuum hose with a diameter of 5 inches. I had two adapters that didn't work properly as well. I'm not sure what size these were supposed to be, but they're not the size listed in the item description. br>br>The product is of poor quality and offers no value for money. Even if it means spending more money, get something else.
