Questions & Answers

Is there a liquid chemical included in this kit for testing?

What does liquid chemical for test mean? It comes with five bottles to thoroughly analyze your pool water. Any pool owner will find it to be a very nice and thorough test.

What's the difference between this test kit and Taylor Technologies' $49 test kit? $57?

The Taylor K-Series The year 2006 is significantly better. It also includes a Cyanuric Acid test, which this kit does not. To figure out what level of Cyanuric Acid (Cya) to keep your chlorine at, you'll need to know your Cyanuric Acid (Cya). This kit only goes to 5 ppm in chlorine, whereas the 2006 can test up to 50 ppm. This kit is fairly basic, and it may suffice if your pool is clean and clear; however, if you ever have cloudy or green water, this kit will not suffice.

Is there a test strip included in this product?

Because it isn't electronic, it doesn't require test strips. It makes use of reagents, and the results are visually compared to a color chart.

Is it possible to test for both free and total clorine levels with this kit? It appears to be the same as my clorine test kit, which only shows overall levels of clorine?

Yes, this kit measures both free and total chlorine, with the immediate result indicating your free chlorine level when performing the chlorine test. Allow two minutes for the chlorine to react completely in the test sample. The sample will now show total chlorine, with no difference between the two in a healthy pool. Any difference between the two indicates the presence of combined chlorine; please call us at (9800) 854-4444 if you have any questions. If you have any questions while using our test kit, please call us at (800) 1492.

It's sufficient
3/5

I work in the pool industry, so I bought this for my own pool just to try it out. While it works and tells me what I need to know, I still prefer the Leslie brand (yes, I know they're a lot more expensive, which is why I got this one), because the Leslie brand provides a wider range of - This is useful when your chemicals are off because you'll know how far off they are without having to fiddle with chemicals to get it close enough to register within the range provided. Also, it didn't appear to be as precise as the Leslie brand, which isn't a big deal unless you're a stickler for accuracy like me. I have both, and now I use the Leslie kit to fine-tune my water, and then I use this kit to save money on the more expensive one.

Be Wary: Reagents Expired After a Few Months, Resulting in Wrong Readings
3/5

As soon as this kit arrived, I received a request for a review. Seriously, there isn't enough time to write a fair and objective review of this product in that amount of time. br>br>I purchased this test kit in September 2016 and have had the following issues: br>br>1) When you get above 2ppm of chlorine, the colors for the chlorine test aren't very accurate; it stays the same shade of yellow from 3 to 5ppm, while the test kit displays 3. 0 and above have a darker yellow to orange color, which causes me to over-chlorinate the pool, which costs me money. 2) Began taking PH tests at least 2 - 3 years ago. It was consistently reading 7 three times a week. 8 to 7. 6th, then 7th. 8 drops the pH to 7 by adding acid. 4 to a degree. After a few weeks, I became suspicious of the reading and took a water sample to Leslie's pool store, where I discovered that it was actually too low at around 6. Yikes! I've only had the kit for about a month and a half. 6 weeks. I threw away the reagents and went out and bought some new ones - Finally, my results matched those of my neighborhood pool store. br>br>3) They worked fine until I got halfway through the PH reagent. At 12 p. m. , I checked the PH and it was 7. After two hours, a retest revealed a result of 7. I retested it two more times at 7 to make sure it wasn't a mistake on my part. One drop of acid changed the color to 7 in the acid demand test. I also took an alkalinity test, which revealed that I had 50 parts per million of alkalinity. I repeated the test twice to ensure I wasn't doing something incorrectly, but the result was still 50ppm. They received a 7 at Leslie's pool. With a pH of 4, and an alkalinity of 80 parts per million, the water is safe to drink. I then took a water sample to another pool store, where they confirmed Leslie's pool result. br>br>My conclusion is that these reagents only last a few months. They've most likely been sitting on the shelves for months before being shipped to customers. br>br>The issue isn't with replacing the reagents; it's with faulty readings, which can lead to the pool owner/service man accidentally adding too much chlorine, conditioner, or acid, which can damage your pool over time.

Chlorine, PH, and Alkalinity can all be tested at home in a few minutes
5/5

This is a simple home kit that covers the three most basic chemistry requirements. Chlorine, PH, and Alkalinity are all terms that are used to describe how acidic or alkaline water is. This kit is far more accurate than test strips, but I encourage people to keep both because test strips often cover a few more checks that need to be monitored as well. br>br>I regularly advise people to choose this kit over most of those professional kits, which cost much more and are often more difficult to learn and understand. br>br>This kit is far more accurate than test strips, but I encourage people to keep both because test strips often cover a few more checks that need to be monitored as well. br>br>I've been using the Poolmaster kit for years and have had great success with it. Remember to balance your alkalinity first, then PH, and then chlorine (especially when opening or filling fresh for a season). br>br>The acid demand test included in this kit is not a daily or weekly test, so don't get too excited about it. It's there so you can use the kit to figure out how much acid you'll need to lower your PH to the proper level if it's too high. It includes a chart as well as conversion information to help you figure out how much to take. I've only used this test once in the last three years because my PH is fairly consistent. (7.

It's better than strips, but it's missing a couple of tests and one key instruction
4/5

For my hot tub, I purchased this item. I was up and running with it in no time, but it lacks the "Calcium Hardness" and "Total Bromine" tests, so I have to rely on other kits for those. Water resistant, but not waterproof, are the bottles and cheat sheet card. A recommended Total Alkalinity level is also missing from the cheat sheet, but it is included in the full manual (80-100). 100ppm). The pH test does not instruct you to swirl after adding 1 drop of 4 (chlorine/bromine neutralizer). br>br>Minus one star because the pH test does not instruct you to swirl after adding 1 drop of 4 (chlorine/bromine neutralizer). However, I discovered that this was an important step, as the pH would otherwise turn purple, indicating "extremely high. " I used a lot of acid in my hot tub to get the purple to go away, only to discover that it would never go away until I swirled the 4 before adding the 2 (pH indicator). br>br>I ended up filling in the blanks on the cheat sheet card with a pen; overall, a fantastic kit!.

Make a scale correction! The pH, acid demand, and other parameters are fine, but the color scale for the most widely used test, chlorine, is terrible
3/5

It turns light yellow around number 5 on the scale, but anything higher than that stays yellow, albeit darker and darker yellow, rather than turning orange as the scale suggests. I've attached photos and a strip that shows the chlorine level was 5 at the time. You make the final decision! For this reason, I will never buy another item.

With this kit, you can learn how to maintain your pool's chemistry on your own
5/5

Having worked with the Taylor K-series for 5 years, 1004 I decided to give the Poolmaster system a shot. Using one bottle instead of two with Taylor makes checking chlorine levels so much easier. My results are not only easier to read, but they are also accurate when compared to what my local pool supply store offers. PH and total alkalinity are the only other tests I run. My local pool store monitors the remaining chemistry (every 2 weeks or so), which I highly recommend to anyone who does their own pool chemistry maintenance. It only takes a week or so to completely unbalance everything, especially in triple-digit temperatures. Advantages: br>br> The kit is inexpensive and simple to use, and the results are easy to interpret.
Cons:.
