Questions & Answers
Hello, this is a sponge made of polyurethane.
You simply toss the turtles into your pool or hot tub; color changes take 12 to 24 hours to appear, as they do not expand once in the water. If the turtles have been in the pool or hot tub for the time period specified and the color has not changed, you either have a very clean pool or hot tub, you need to leave them in for a couple of days, or they are not working, in which case I would contact the company.
At any temperature, I don't believe it works. At 104 degrees Fahrenheit, it did not melt. It did not, however, absorb any body oil.
You can soak it in water for a while and then manually separate it once the sponge has recovered its shape.

I almost didn't buy these because of the negative reviews, but I decided to give them a chance anyway. So far, the drawbacks appear to be due to user error. br>S9br>So, here are the most common "problems" I've heard from other buyers.
1. The turtles are vacuum-sealed when they are delivered. I tossed two into the pool after opening the bag, and they were fully open in less than five minutes. The product is not harmed by the vacuum packaging. br>2. They change colors very quickly after the first time they are put in the pool. That's exactly what I'm trying to say. They absorb the oil/scum and change color as a result. After that, you discard it and replace it with a new one. It's understandable that it would change colors quickly the first time. br>br>I believe the price is reasonable for the quantity and size received. They are extremely effective. There aren't any issues.
open the bag and wait 5 minutes. After 10 minutes, some people start to re-energize. If they don't expand on their own, gently separate them and toss a couple into the water. They WILL turn brown after a short period of time; I left mine on for a few days and they smelled like sunscreen when I removed them! I added a few more new ones, as well as about 5-percent more of the ones I already had. They turned brown after 6 hours and reeked of sun screen a few days later. I've put them in three times now. I used to use three at a time, but this time I used four, and they've been in the pool for over a day and a half and only one has died. 2 of them are discoloring a little! These methods are effective! With each passing day, my water has become cleaner and cleaner, and the greasey ring on the tile has nearly vanished! And I live in Arizona, where the temperature has exceeded 110 degrees on 33 occasions this year. They are not melted by the heat. Chemicals could do it, but I'm not convinced. And yes, even with the aerator running all night, the pool water is over 90 degrees, so I can assure you that hot water and direct sunlight WILL NOT MELT THEM! These are identical to the ones for sale at exorbitant prices on the internet. For $14, you get two sponges? Why? These are $14 for a set of 24 of the same item!.
I only write reviews for two reasons: either the item is fantastic or it is terrible. Unfortunately, this item is far from perfect- I had a slew of issues with these sponges. I got the sponges after trying a similar product from Namco that worked great, but they were out of stock and I couldn't find any more, so I turned to Amazon and found these- I got them in a timely manner. Like I did with my previous set, I immediately put two of them in my hot tub. Then I went on to tell you about my day-to-day activities. The next morning, I awoke to a dreadful scene- These two sponges went from white to orange, and from a spongey material to a thick sticky bubblegum or glue-like substance. It had completely melted around my filter cover, preventing anything from passing through. I had no idea what this orange mess was at first, but it was quickly revealed to be the sponges I had put in the day before- Clearly, whatever material this item is made of melts in 89-degree water. I'm not sure why anyone would sell a hot tub sponge that melts into a gum-like substance. Because I have a four-year-old who enjoys it, my hot tub is more like a Luke warm tub. As a result, we maintain a constant temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit. I'd hate to see what happens to these turtle sponges in a regular hot tub, which is usually around 100 degrees. 105 degrees Fahrenheit I'm never going to find out what a mess these two small sponges made in 89 degrees- I needed two. The bubblegum substance on the filter cover grates took 5 hours to scrape off. It was a nightmare because I could only get a small amount off at a time. I was looking for something to float in my hot tub and collect the oils that are left on people's skin, but instead I ended up with a huge mess, had to buy a new filter, and now have 16 more turtle "sponges" that I don't know what to do with. I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has ever used these in a hot tub. I'm guessing that people who like this product use it as a sponge to clean the sides? I'm not sure, but all I know is to avoid this product--it's the worst thing I've ever purchased-- It's bad enough when a product fails to perform as advertised, but when it fails to perform while also destroying other items and requiring hours of cleaning, it deserves a low rating. Any advice I would give to the seller is to stop selling this garbage. I never leave negative feedback because I am aware that it has an impact on the seller's rating. I hate doing it, but this product is so bad that I couldn't let it go without informing others. After working 85 hours as a nurse this week, the last thing I expected to see when I opened my hot tub was a huge mess made by a product that was supposed to make my life easier, not harder. It's an understatement to say I'm irritated. If you don't mind picking gum off hard surfaces for hours, this is not the product for you.
These suckers suck up pollen and who knows what else from the pool surface, turning white to brown in the process. A note about this product: it comes vacuum-sealed, so you'll have to carefully pry the turtles apart, but they expand in the water and continue to function normally.
First and foremost, I make no claim to being an engineer or any other kind of professional material inspector. However, even a person of average intelligence can deduce that these foam pieces were most likely made with materials that were intended to turn an orange/brown color when placed in a spa or pool. I got a package today, and I'm on my third set of two sea turtle sponges, all of which are doing the same thing almost immediately; Browning is taking place. Nothing is being collected or absorbed by them. There was nothing greasy or sludgy about it, no debris, nothing. They've only just started to turn brown. They don't feel greasy or dirty, and they don't appear to be collecting oils or other contaminants. You're smart enough to figure it out - If you wish, you may purchase them. Your money is being squandered, in my opinion. They're just a money-hungry bunch, according to common sense. making a ruse to defraud those of you who were foolish enough to buy them out of your money So that's my two cents on the subject. I'm not going to ask for a reimbursement. I'm going to use all 24 of these turtles and see what happens besides the sponge changing color. If it doesn't, I'll have proven my point.
I paid $20 for four of these the last time I bought them, so $13 for twenty-four is a huge savings. They're shrink wrapped when they arrive. I put them in a culender and ran water over them to make them look like a lump of white cheese. They gradually open up, revealing a small army of turtles ready to attack. They do an excellent job of absorbing oils and foam in the jacuzzi, ensuring that it remains clean.
