The size is about 12x12 and the thickness is about 3/4". The filters already came in my pond so I cannot give you a precise measurement but they fit perfectly in the square Pondmaster filter box
It doesn't make sense to do 4. There is less than a quarter inch of thickness between the pads. I think it's both. 2 pads should be read instead of 4, making a total of 2

The material seems to have been improved. The new set is thicker and works better than the previous set we purchased. After rinsing three times, I usually replace the filter. Our filter seems to collect a lot of debris at certain times, so it can't be the filter's fault. As a result, I believe they are able to withstand conditions well. The cost just seems out of control to me. There is no way I could believe this type of product costs this much to produce, so it makes me feel like I am being ripped off, but it is more convenient than buying bulk rolls and cutting down, so I can forgive the.
They easily last a season in our 750 gallon Koi pond, which is mid-sized. Every week, we hose them down and they keep their structure while cleaning themselves up quickly. Occasionally, we use the cheap "blue filter pads" at the beginning of the season just to get the bulk of the muck out since they are so cheap however, they disintegrate when washed.
I have noticed a relationship between the larger white main filter and the more dense charcoal secondary filter and how well it seems to remove quite a bit of muck yet still provide good flow of water. I am not sure how long the activated carbon lasts in the black charcoal filter (about a week or two at most), but it still functions as a tighter knit secondary filter and complements the white primary filter very nicely. The housing of a Danner filter fits perfectly. The filter and small skimmer were the two best investments we have made for our pond - good quality and a good price.
