Product Description

The Flow-Through filter design not only provides a maximum oxygenation, but also provides biological and mechanical filtration.
A pond with up to 10,000 gallons of water (without fish) can benefit from the BioSmart 10000.
Biological filter foams provide exceptional filtration capabilities due to their large surface areas.
The distinct filter zones allow for the settlement of a variety of beneficial bacteria involved in different phases of the nitrogen cycle, which increases the conversion of harmful ammonia in your pond.
One of the advances of this filter is the built-in indicator that tells you when the filter should be cleaned, along with a display that tells you at all times how hot the water is.

Questions & Answers

Could this filter be used in a pond with fish that is 2000 gallons in size?

It is true that I, as a professional pond installer, have never actually installed a filter like this, as we use much more expensive equipment, so I don't have first-hand experience with it. Its not that i don't sell them, but I do sell a great deal There seems to be a lot of interest in them. You should be able to place it above the water level of your pond as long as you can keep it above that level. If there are no fish, it can be used up to 5,000 gallons and if there are small fish, it can be used up to 2,500 gallons, and if you have Koi, it can be used up to 1,250 gallons. With sincere thanks, Nate at Practical Garden Ponds with a telephone number of

It has a 3" adapter/gasket and all the required information printed on it. I thought the manual was woeful, and it lacked details. is the direction of the adapter - which direction do its inner fins point?

In addition to the adaptor, I put a pvc pipe on my pond to discharge the filtered water. A solid connection between the pvc pipe and rock does not exist. I stacked rocks around the pvc pipe to protect the joint. It is important that the material is secured so certain "critters" can't run over it. My question relates to the fins, but I am not clear about it Could you please share a word with me? Even though the discharge could have been designed better, the filter does its job and cleaning the filters every so often isn't that difficult.

Could you tell me the dimensions of the outlet port going back to the pond if one does not use an adapter with the Biosmart 5000? The size is 3" or 2 1/2". ?

As soon as it comes out of the box, it has two outlets. This is "5". It is a very difficult size to locate, but I included with the filter an adapter that will bring it up to a common and readily available size, which is 3". We are Nate at Practical Garden Ponds. Product is great, outtake design is poor, but I found a fix for that
4/5

It is a great product, but the flimsy outtake isn't designed well, it pops off easily, and leaks. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for that issue. LOWES had the solution I was looking for I'VE GOT 3-AMERICAN VALVE The item # 23486 is a 1 in Diameter Flexible PVC Elbow Fitting with the model # RE75. Tighten the clamp very well and it will not pop off like the one it came with.

I am amazed at how well this thing Since I've been struggling with muck and dead algae particles floating in my water for years, I'm only writing a review on your product
5/5

I tried quilt batting, they don't work for me I have tested everything from ground biofilters to pond vacuums, barley straw to algae eaters. It amazes me how good this filter is. Water color is crystal clear as it has been running for over a month and a half now. It's impossible for any debris to remain in my pond at all. There seems to be an aquarium in here. There's no way that water could be dirty. When I hooked it up for the first time, I noticed the algae particles would pass through the filter and back into the pond after a couple hours. My expectation was that it wasn't going to be able to do what I needed. My next step was to clean the filter more often Having cleaned it twice, it looks great I rinsed 3 times a day for a week (the water completely cleared up after one Since then I have been cleaning the water filter once a day, but lately I've been cleaning it once a week or every other day. I did not notice any changes in the water quality! It's the first time I've had a filter that's so easy to clean. Basically, all you have to do is backwash the filter and pull the handles on the lid of the filter up. There you have You'll be done in 7 minutes or less! A few weeks ago, I bought the OASE 10000 but wasn't sure how big of a pump I should buy with This pump will pump 5500 gallons of water (I have a 2200 gallon pond). There is a hose about 15 feet long and a lift about 3 feet high. The height should range from 5 to 4 feet. There is no problem with the flow. Earlier this year, I spent hundreds of dollars on my pond, and was considering spending a little more on this filter as well. God bless you for doing so. The sludge won't have to be cleared up ever again with another maintenance item I buy! There are now 2 before and 1 after photographs on my website*.

An alternative is to operate parallel with each other
3/5

I don't like this at all! I looked at the Biosmart 5000 and found that the media is graded in three different ways. Strangely, the water does not flow first through the coarse media, then through the medium media, before proceeding to the fine media. Rather, the media are arranged in such a way that the water can choose which grade of media it wishes to travel The fine media is located parallel to the flow of water (this means that more flow resistance exists between them), so not nearly as much water will flow through them. The water will not be able to pass through the fine grades when they get clogged. The consequence is no fine filtration until the coarse part of the filter clogs as well. The above explanation was provided to me over the phone by OASE. However, their organization is too bloated and monolithic to let customers talk to a customer service representative. Instead, I was assigned a receptionist who, in accordance with the "policy," had to act as a conduit between the guy who knew stuff and me. The information was relayed to me for a couple of days, and I eventually gave up and returned the unit to the store. Based on many positive reviews, I think this filter does at least a little bit to improve water quality. However, having said that, the design is horrible. It is not difficult to build a much more efficient box, and it would outperform the one that you have now. You can find a lot of videos on how to do this on YouTube (which is why there are so many).

Taking the boat out on the pond is overkill for us, but the water is more beautiful than it's ever been
5/5

They absolutely love it, and so do I. It was bought for my parents' pond. Almost 13 years ago, we built a pond for them at their house, and the size did not reflect research, but rather aesthetic considerations. The pond turned out to be just a bit too big for the pumps and filters available in our area (suburban) to handle well (especially considering the leaves from the huge oak trees in their yard, and the sandy soil that blows into the pond every day). Several of the models that were readily available cost a lot of money, and they had to clean all of the intakes regularly, the pump would burn out after a season or two, and we spent The specs of this filter indicated to me that it would be overkill for their pond, so I bought it anyway. I learned a valuable lesson that turned out to be a good Our water is clearer than ever, we are able to keep fish for the first time in years, and the amount of fussing we have to do has decreased dramatically. It is important to note that the outlet on this unit is gravity fed, and is located between the two top sections. In addition, gravity plays a part in the equation The bottom of the unit has a fed cleanout that has to drain properly by going downward away from the pond. There is a need for the filter to be raised above In the event that you screen it in any way, keep in mind that you will also have to consider elevation.

Directions are a waste of time
3/5

Here are the steps you need to take. It is impossible to follow the instructions properly, and none of the fittings seem to be of good quality. So here are the steps you need to take. 2) Make sure the Amazon box contains the product. 2) Take a hammer and beat yourself several times over the head for not listening to those on here who have said the same thing. outside in a closet for 2 hours to waste the time you would have spent checking to see if the metric output line would fit in your PVC or to see if their gasket and adapter would fit.
4) Put the Amazon box and product back in the car and return it 5) While you are on your way to UPS, stop by Home Depot and give a random person the $50 you would have spent trying to do these things. It is my pleasure to host you.
