Questions & Answers

Please do not use extension cords as indicated in the instructions! A short E is what I plan to use. A waterproof application (for use outside). Has anyone ever had trouble running ?

The extension cord I run out to the barn is heavy and I have never encountered any issues. If you decide to use an extension, make sure its heavy-duty, e.g. Wire with a gauge of 12/2 or 14/2 draws only a light draw. Just check the specs. I believe this product has as much voltage as a 60W light bulb.

In the directions, it says to ground it well before putting it into a bucket with watering nipples for chickens. How did you do this?

That didn't bother me at all. I used it all last winter without any problems. Plugged into a grounded wall socket, it works great. If using a grounded extension cord, make sure it is grounded.

Any idea if this will work in subzero temperatures? In the range of 10-plus What is the symbol for 20?

These are in a horse water tank that holds over 100 gallons. Here in Alaska, the temperature can drop to 20 below and even lower, and the water has never There are usually no problems with temperature. In order to save money, I insulate the tank and cover it with Styrofoam. However, even without those measures it would keep the water thawed. In this case, it would just be more expensive.

Can you tell me how long the power cord is?

72" is the length of the power cord

Your birds will thank you. This has been working for me for the past 2 months in the winter here in New England. The temperature has fallen below 0 degrees Fahrenheit - - -Summary The only wise thing to do is not to buy this unless you want to give your birds rust-filled The pro's are By keeping the water from freezing, it prevents damage to the system. There are no cons to it except that it fits into a standard 5 gallon bucket. I find the materials used to be horrible There is a lot of rust on it. By attracting and fusing calcium deposits in the water with the heating element, it generates heat. I can't understand why on earth someone would use a metal that rusts in water for something that is designed to be submerged in At first, I did not believe it, but I ended up buying two of them. In both cases, the same thing is done. When submerged for a short period, the part near where the plug attaches rusts within days, and rust continues to leak During the winter season, I don't expect this to last. Consider taking a different route to save yourself money and maybe even your birds.

In the absence of water troughs A frozen state
5/5

It is unnecessary for us to use the 500, 1000, and 1500 watters because they consume too much energy. During the winter, the temperature typically drops between 15° and 30° F where we live. The temperature of these is very conducive to their use. In the event that it does drop to zero, the 250 won't heat up enough to combat the ice, so a higher wattage is temporarily added. Three of them are in the Rubbermaid troughs, which I have had no trouble using, as well as one in a metal trough.

The 50 gallon stock tank is currently in use
4/5

Using this for several years in a bucket, it didn't stop the bucket from freezing, but it did keep her nipples warm. So it wasn't of any use to me. was never able to come up with a good solution to that problem. Several years ago, I purchased a rubbermaid stock tank in the amount of 50 gallons. Only about 2 inches of it was visible because I buried it in the ground. I'm a little surprised at how well the 250 watts are defying the ice out there. In fact, it's about 10 degrees outside right now, and the 250 watts are keeping the tank clear. But in my opinion, it is an insulated container and buried, so that probably helps a great deal.

It is one of the most reliable stock tank heaters I have ever used
5/5

In order to conserve electricity, I use these 250W units instead of 1500W ones. 250W is usually enough to keep the ice from melting in central New Hampshire, at least in one region, for animals to be able to This heater is unlike floating heaters which can burn out if the tank is left Contrary to some other designs, they are also not prone to being broken by horses, cattle, goats, or sheep.

De-rusting Submersible Bucket by Rust Chaser It is cooler
3/5

My first purchase of this type of item was several years ago- I loved it and would do it again. It is one of my most popular posts on social media and I recommended it last year as a 'must have' for poultry management during the winter season. The original version of this article was published this summer - The ice maker in my garage was rusted from lack of care, I assumed. It wasn't a big deal, I would order another one. In my bucket, I put the new one that arrived just before things began to freeze. Nothing to warm you up. On the morning of January 2, the bucket was frozen. A second letter with two revisions was promptly sent to me by the company Shipping was delivered on the second day, which is the reason for my rating. My installation was completed on December 30, 2017. It was delivered on December 28, 2017. I thought we were back on track due to the fact that this one heated like the old one. During the first couple days after installation, the water was a little murky, but since it's a metal part, I didn't think too much of it, thinking it just needed to work out some kinks or factory coating. There was a small amount of rust on the wire, but nothing unusual. morning, 1/6/18 (one week from the installation), I checked the water and dumped out a bucket of water that looked like tomato juice. The whole thing makes me feel really disappointed and a little disgusted. Several have previously stated that this product gets very rusty because it is intended to be kept in water. 'Farm Innovators' should know that, you Develop new ideas. I encourage you to take action on If anyone is looking for a quick fix for frozen buckets, I advise them to try a different brand of water, or carry warm water out the old-fashioned It will be over before we know it, and though carrying buckets is one of my least favorite things to do in the winter If it's 18 degrees out, I won't have to make rust smoothies for my animals.

If you want to save money, buy a K&H. Chewing the chewing gum This material rusts in a hurry, so you should use a bucket that's ready to be filled the minute you remove the cord. In the event that your chickens eat the cord, then rusting might not be an issue. However, my chickens do not chew on the cord at all, so I just cut the chewing path. I'm letting my guard down. It seems that the aluminum wants to corrode but that might have to do with As a result, the bucket did not freeze because of the thermostat inside. The corroded metal on the heater has stopped corroding once I removed the rusty metal from the bucket. I would rather dip it in epoxy to see if that cuts down corrosion. There could have been something unusual going on with the electrolysis. * * *Updates As a result, the corrosion did not stop, and the heater eventually There is a permanent electrical fault now and the GFCI trips when the power is on. As a result of corrosion, the aluminum has been eaten away. It might have to do with the internal electrical components which are causing corrosion because I tested the water and it was fine. In addition, all the other aluminum parts such as the sprayer and hose fittings do not show corrosion. OUTSIDE the unit, the water is leaking as well. There may have been a problem from the very As we are facing several days of sub-freezing temperatures, and my farm supply resource was out of stock of the K&N filter, I was faced with a serious problem immediately. Heaters with an H in the name. As a result, I have acquired another one, so I will see if it does any better. However, since I cut off the metal cord protection the first time, I am removing it for this second one. To see if it corrodes like the first one, I put it in the bucket with no paint or epoxy coating. I will definitely get a thick coating on it if it rains.

It is the best de-icer I have ever used
5/5

I have a 1500 watt de-icer from the same company that I bought 17 years ago that is still working well. The products of other brands melted if the water level accidentally got too low or barely lasted two winters. Plastic tubs can be used safely with this, and it has a cord guard so the horses won't be bothered by My boat has not rusted like some reviews claim, although it has been on water throughout the It says it opens up for a 5 liter bucket of ice, but I used it to fill a 50 liter rubbermaid tub, so I didn't have to use the 1500 watt unit. When it is full, it can keep the ice free down to 20 grams, and when half full, it can go down to single digits. The temperature was 0 degrees and the wind speed was 0 mph The edges of the building were icy due to the 19 wind chill.
