I've had parts between the unit and the propeller rot and fall apart after 1 season in brackish water in a lagoon, and I can't attribute it to anything but salt.
I stopped using mine because I couldn't keep the water open every other weekend, so I had to cut it out of ice. It's about 10" around and 24' deep, so it can move a lot of water where I have it. This is designed for a depth of more than 5 feet, in which case it will perform much better.

What the Zink is, I'm not sure. Could you go into more detail? On Anchor Bay in Michigan, I used the half horsepower to keep my hoist for damage. It's fantastic.

After finding the Kasco 1 hp to be too powerful, I purchased and used the Kasco 1/2 hp for a 75' x 50' circular duck pond. After 6 months, the unit began drawing too many amps while in the water, causing the GFI to trip. Note on the Limited Warranty: You'll need to contact Kasco directly; neither Amazon nor Freeport Marine Supply will help you with warranty or repair issues. I'll keep you updated on the outcome of my conversations with Kasco.
We had to chip through three inches of ice to get it in because it shipped quickly and arrived on time. One well and half of the second well had been cleared by that afternoon. Next year, we'll take a more proactive approach. It got off to a slow start in terms of ice, and we had to work hard to catch up after a week of below-zero temperatures. It's only been a week since we arrived, and the weather should be clearing up soon.
It's fantastic! My dock is still submerged in water, despite the fact that the entire lake has frozen over. The ice is kept clear on all sides by being suspended vertically about 6 feet down. I'm relieved that I'm not one of the people who is currently concerned about their dock. Also, the shipping was extremely quick. The order was placed around 11 p. m. on Friday, and it was supposed to arrive on Tuesday, but it arrived early on Sunday afternoon. Thanks!.

After you've pulled the de- After contacting Water Land, I discovered the issue with the propeller embedded in the power cord. The company sent me a new power cord to replace the one that was damaged during the manufacturing process. The pump has been reinstalled and is now de-energized. Even as we speak, the icing is being applied! Water Land with Scott and Michael Home was extremely responsive, not only via email but also via phone calls, in informing me of the problem's resolution and when I should expect it. Customer service is outstanding.
Arrived promptly and performed flawlessly. Four people were killed as a result of the freezing temperatures. My dock is surrounded by a five-inch thick layer of ice. I shifted it to the other side, then back, and 36 hours later, I had open water all the way around my dock! A+++.
It's quite effective. Use a thermostat box to turn it off and on, and tie the two lines at least 10' apart to prevent them from twisting and cutting the electric cord. If you're going to be in salt water, you'll need to buy some extra zinks. Mine lasted a month and a half. It's a good idea to take it out every week and inspect it. If trash jams the propeller, it can cause the cord pulling amps to overheat.
Purchased for use beneath a lake dock. The water is freely flowing, and the dock's hydrolically installed footings and posts are in good condition. With temperatures below 25 degrees, we only need to run this for a few hours, and in the Northeast, we'll keep an eye on it as temperatures drop.
