It has been working well so far for the 2nd Gen. Thatcher's Sun Joe. I just found out you cannot purchase the replacement spring tins from De Thatcher The only problem is I can't finish my lawn until I buy more tins, even though it has performed well!.
A scarifier/detacher is a very powerful device that does its job well. The collection is of no value to me, hence my discontent. I would say that maybe after 5 or 6 bags, the entry becomes clogged When your lawn grows to 8 feet, it leaves a path of grass that you must I recommend that you opt for the less expensive version that does not offer a collection bag because of this. What's the point of paying an additional $50 if you still have to rake? Unless you have a need for more power, it is a great tool.
It was well worth the money spent on this dethatcher. The problem with these bags is that, as you've probably read before, people complain that they are useless, but that's only because they are so good at removing The light weight of the device makes it easy to use, and the power cord doesn't get in the way if it is detached. Even though I haven't used the 12 amp version, I'd say that this 13 amp version was plenty powerful to clear thick thatch easily. You need to get this thing! So stop waiting and grab it!.
With Zoysia grass I don't even have time to cut it when it dies out in the winter, so I need a dethatcher to clear it all up. Sun Joe's dethatcher solves my problem. When it comes to removing dead grass, it works great. Due to its lightweight nature, it basically pulls by was able to use a 100 foot extension cord that was 14 gauge without any issues. I tried to order an extra tine roller, but there is none available. It was a poor business decision, especially since the grass catcher that comes with it is useless unless you have just a postage stamp-size yard. There are no spare parts either, and I needed one. In general, I would give the dethatcher 5 stars, but it has no spare parts and the grass catcher is too small, so I will have to give it 3 stars.
Five minutes after breaking, it was fixed. Returning for a refund will not be worth your time. After just five minutes of use, the device broke. I'm so disappointed.

There is so much trash in my lawn that I can't believe how much it removed. I have no problems with the machine. Putting it together is a snap. I have two concerns, however. One is that the bag is useless, but I anticipated that before I purchased the machine, so no big deal. The second is that paying extra for the bag is outrageous. Second, the weight of the machine is not a concern since it is a nice and light machine with no issues when moving it around and storing it. In my yard, however, there are a lot of lumps and patches, and I found myself wishing it had a little more weight on it to keep the front end down and dig in more effectively. It is a great machine, but had I known then what I know now, I may have gone with the older model to save a few bucks.
If you have any size of lawn to scarify, don't bother. I had it cross in a 90 degree direction for the 2nd pass, and it used to work perfectly until I changed the direction.
