I bought the Green Works 27022 Corded Dehumidifier. After reading Amazon reviews, thatcher made the decision to leave the company. (One reviewer suggested using the heavy-duty extension cord, so I bought that as well. ) I made use of the Green Works De-Stresser. a thatcher on the whole lawn - 4 times in total (yard is approximately 100'x110'). I filled two of them. With the debris, 96 gallon yard waste containers and 12 Kraft bags (each about 32 gallons) were used. Then my husband and I filled 4 cubic yards of top soil into all the old mole holes and tunnel dips. We then applied grass seed to the bare spots and applied 5 cubic yards of compost to the entire yard before watering it thoroughly. The outcomes are depicted in photographs. It's not as good as an $8,000 professional lawn, but it's a lot better for $500 and a lot of effort.
From a terrible company, a decent product. br>br>Except for one major flaw, this is a fantastic little machine that arrived yesterday afternoon and I put together this morning. Although the instructions are incomplete in one case and completely incorrect in another (more on this later), it only took a few minutes to put it together. Fortunately, I had read other reviews that pointed out the issues, so I was aware of them and was able to work around them before they became a problem; the company is aware of the issue but has made no attempt to rectify it. br>br>Today was the first time I used the machine, and it took about an hour to dethatch a 3500 square foot yard. I was going at a leisurely pace and could have probably finished it in less time if I had wanted to. It took another hour or so to rake up the thatch that had been kicked up, which was significantly more work than using the dethatcher. I tried to bag the thatch with my lawnmower, but it was too dry and light, so half of it went into the mower bag and the other half simply blew out from under the mower. I decided to just grab a rake and some large lawn bags because the bag was filling up in less than two passes. My dog "helped" by tearing apart each little thatch pile until she became tired and then went to sleep in one of them. Others have complained about the machine overheating, but I haven't had any issues. I used a heavy-duty extension cord with a 100-foot length, and I stopped the machine briefly after each length of my yard (roughly 70') to flip the cord to the other side, which may have helped keep it cool. I believe overheating is caused by two factors: the extension cord used and the length of time the machine runs continuously. Another reviewer complained that the extension cord kept coming unplugged from the machine; however, I used the cord clip that came in the box and the cords stayed securely connected the entire time I used the machine. br>br>My lawn is a strange mix of PGA-style and non-PGA-style grass. br>br> It's a toss-up between good grass and complete nonsense. I quickly learned to slow down as I walked across the lawn so that I didn't rip up the good grass and instead cleared the "thatchy" stuff. I could also pick it up and move it around the yard as needed because it's light. When I was going through a lot of thatch, it got a little sluggish. I stopped the machine a couple of times by releasing the handle, picking it up, and shaking it to clear the thatch that had accumulated beneath the housing. I only had to do it a couple of times, and considering this was the first time my yard had been detached in years, I'm surprised it worked out so well. br>br>When compared to the cost and hassle of renting and transporting a gas-powered vehicle, renting and transporting a gas-powered vehicle is a no-brainer. If I get five or six uses out of this powered dethacher, it'll be a bargain. I think it'll last a long time, and considering the price, I'm glad I bought it. br>br>There is one thing about this machine (company? This irritates me greatly. The instructions are incorrect, and the company has been sending them out for more than three years. 5 YEARS! The height settings in the manual are in the wrong order. It also tells you how to put things together without mentioning that you must first install the cord lock on the lower handle. If you use the recommended height settings, you risk damaging your lawn or bending the tines. You'll have to disassemble everything and start over if you follow the assembly instructions exactly as written. Greenworks has had three revisions to the manual, with the most recent being in January 2015. It will take five years to rectify the situation. However, this is not the case. They respond to a large number of Amazon customer reviews, but they ignore those that point out the documentation problem. This could be fixed with a simple sticker on the machine or on the front of the manual, but Greenworks doesn't seem to care. Poor form on their part, and given how they handled the documentation issue, I would never buy a product from them that costs a significant amount of money. br>br>I like the product, but any company that has shipped incorrect instructions for more than three years will not be receiving any more of my money. Greenworks, you need to get your act together. br>br>As with any other product, your results may vary. br>br>Photos show the job halfway finished, finished, and my assistant relaxing in a pile of thatch.
The instructions must be corrected! This dethatcher did an excellent job of removing the thatch without causing any problems, and it is also very functional. You're setting yourself up for failure by following the instructions. Instead of requiring you to install the cord holder first, as it should, it does so after you've completed the rest of the assembly. Now I have to disassemble, install the cord holder, and put everything back together. It instructs you to set the wheels to level "I" in order to travel with the dethacher. This is the lowest level, and it will cause your splines to bend as they make full contact. The wheels must be set to Level "III" in order for the dethacher to be lifted and spline contact with the floor to be minimized. So, with this stuff, the instructions were backwards, and I couldn't believe it. I double-checked it a few times to make sure it was correct.
