Questions & Answers

What is the motor's horsepower capacity?

An electrical motor's power can be calculated in a simple manner. To find the total power in watts, multiply the volts by the amps, in this case 120 volts multiplied by 13. 1,620 watts are equal to 5 amps. To get 201,377 watts, you'll need to figure in an average 85% efficiency for electric motors. (It's reasonable to assume that this is a low-cost option.) The cost AC appliance uses a typical AC induction motor with probably more than 80% efficiency, and the manufacturer doesn't claim anything better, but let us give them the benefit of the% ) Then consider that you will always be using this while plugged into an extension cord. Let s say it is the typical $30 14 gauge, 50 foot cord that is common (but be There are 8 horsepower available. If you compare this to the popular Mantis 16-inch tiller, which has a 4-inch blade, the Mantis 16-inch tiller comes out on top. The Honda GX35 gas engine has a stroke length of 1. At 7,000 rpm, the engine produces 3 horsepower. So this is 38% more powerful on paper, but there are a lot of other differences as well. It has a very different tine shape, but having to care for a gas engine and having virtually unlimited portability, vs. an upkeep-friendly There are also significant differences between using a free electrical motor and using one that is connected to a power supply. br>In a nutshell, This is more powerful than its gas competitors in most cases, which is important, but it isn't the only factor to consider.

Has anyone compared the 12 amp and 13 amp models? Is it the one with the five amps? Is it worth it to pay a little more for the 13. A tiller with a 5 amp motor?

We have a lot of clay in our soil in Montana, and when it gets dry, it becomes rock hard. I've got number thirteen. 5 But, to keep it from bouncing around, I weighed it down with a fifty-pound lead weight. It performs admirably even with the added weight.

Is 13. Is it possible that 5 amps is too much for a 15 amp circuit?

With a 15A circuit, you'll be fine. The manufacturer recommends a 14/3 (14 gauge 3 conductor) extension cord for up to 50 feet and a 12/3 extension cord for up to 100 feet. Please be aware that the tiller draws the most current when the tines are digging deep in the soil and the motor is bogging down, and it's possible that it will trip the breaker on a 15A circuit if the total length exceeds 100ft.

Is it possible to remove tines to make the tilling area more compact?

yes, but. The tines are a three-piece assembly held to the shaft by a through bolt; you could till with just one side if you removed one assembly, but the tiller is still over a foot wide and the empty shaft sticks out even without the tines. If you want to work in a more restricted area, I would recommend a lighter, narrower tiller.

I'm not sure why there's such a big deal - 11/27/20 EDITED Used to break up some moderately stony soil; after about ten minutes, it stopped working
3/5

I was surprised because it wasn't anything too strenuous. I'm not a fan. br>br>When I contacted Sun Joe, he informed me that my model (13. Because the 5 amp) was out of stock, I had to settle for a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. wait a month and a half for a replacement or use an amp tool 13. 5 amp. Waiting was not a problem for me. A period of six weeks has passed. Over the next six weeks, Sun Joe received three more follow-up emails, all of which were ignored. So I'll be on the lookout for a new tiller for next year. If you don't respond to a 'help' email, it's pointless to have one. br>br>Addendum, November 27, 2020: I recently decided that the warranty period had expired and that I had nothing to lose by opening the tiller's top. One of the electric leads had come loose, and I noticed it right away. I reconnected it and used a small amount of solder to secure it. It was a cinch to use. I should have thought of it sooner, but I guess I was under the impression that the problem would be more serious (and I'm not particularly skilled in this area) - It appears to be a QC problem, but it's fine. br>br>I used the tiller to loosen up a section of my yard in preparation for grass planting this summer. Fantastic tool for light to medium tasks, such as loosening the top 4 inches or so of soil. Tough as nails and thrives in my stony soil. br>br>In order to give the device some sturdiness, I reinforced it with hose clamps, as suggested elsewhere. I can also see how adding ten dollars to the equation would be beneficial. I didn't add 20 pounds to the top because I thought it would help me work deeper and more controllably. br>br>I've given it two more stars for a total of three because it's a fantastic tool for the price, but I'll deduct one star for poor customer service and another for a QC issue. YMMV.

Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts   This was delivered the day before yesterday and only took 20 minutes to put together
5/5

I put in an hour yesterday right after I finished putting it together, and I've already put in 30 minutes this morning. The video shows the work that has been done so far this morning. This video clearly demonstrates the power of this tiller. It's moving river rocks as large as small melons. Because there aren't many reviews that demonstrate the power of this tiller, I figured the video would suffice. If your soil is rocky, it will jum up and down. And, while the switch isn't in a bad spot in my opinion, I taped it down so that I could manage it while it was in use. Based on a suggestion from another reviewer, I loaded a cinder block step to help weigh it down. As you can see, I'm a muscular, powerful individual who needs to be manhandled. It was well worth the money I spent!.

Heavy and nice
5/5

This rototiller is exactly what I've been looking for. It simply digs up a storm, so I was able to complete a large task in under an hour with it. I'm a 69-year-old woman who has only recently begun to take care of my yard. shrubs to be planted Initially, I had trees in my backyard ( I've never bought a home on my own before, and this will most likely be the last. I suffer from a number of incapacitating illnesses, but thanks to this powerful little tiller, I am able to keep moving forward. I'm still capable of caring for my own home, thanks to a fantastic electric lawn mower. I do all of the yard work on my own. I'm sure it'll take me all summer to finish everything I want to do, but now that I have this fantastic little tiller, I'm confident I'll be able to do the Tasmanian ("Taz") devil dance all over my yard. lawn. I'm 5'5" tall, so it's not too big or heavy for me. (I weigh 168 pounds) I've never had a problem with it getting away from me, and I've never worried about getting hurt because it's so simple to adjust. lowering the blade height to achieve the desired dig depth Controlling is simple. All you'll need is a firm grip to get started. taking precautions It literally saved me weeks of digging by hand to get to my goal. I dug up around two trees in less than an hour. a number of bushes to help aerate the soil Make a tight circle of dirt around them to make watering easier. holding precisely the right amount of water for each of them, lowering water bills I'll be planting six trees in my yard over the next few days, which I wouldn't have been able to do without the help of this tiller. It's exactly what I wanted, and I'm extremely pleased with it. I would strongly advise anyone to read this one, as it is semi-autobiographical in nature. whether or not they are disabled Yes, I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. ) jlp.

Change of name: Joe is a formidable opponent
5/5

This house has had previous owners since it was built in 1944. Because the soil in California Heights is clay, a previous owner poured one inch river rock all over the sides and backyard, which works well for areas where you don't want grass to grow but I'm not sure why it was also poured in the backyard? It would have been better if I had rented it for a few more days. So I went out and bought a small tiller to see what I could do with it. Because I have a lot of time, I decided to do the backyard in thirds, as shown in the photo. This tiller performs admirably on a 10 foot long lane, going fairly deep in two forward and two back motions. Repeat the process over a distance of 12 inches. In 3 hours, I was able to till a 20 x 20 section of the backyard to a depth of 6 inches (with frequent water breaks). Today I'll till in 6 yards of soil amendment and 3 bags of sand, after removing enough 1 inch river rock to fill a 40 gallon trash container during the initial till. I'd till a 10-foot section, then shut down the machine and go rock hunting. This unit's tins held up well and did not buckle or break. Before I started this project, I seriously considered purchasing replacement tins as a back-up. That won't be necessary, I'm happy to report. Cleaning was simple; I simply used compressed air to blow away any dirt; I did soak the ground the night before, but only the surface was wet because it is clay and full of river rock. The tins are held in place by only two bolts. The bolts and nuts are 14mm in diameter, and they required the use of an impact wrench due to the tightness with which they were torqued. My breaker bar indicated that the nuts were torqued at 80 foot pounds. My only gripe: that switch that toggles between on and off It's a wired normally open micro switch with an interlock release button that can handle up to 10 amps. Move this switch to the middle of the handle grip, where it can be held down with two fingers.
