Questions & Answers

What is the motor's horsepower capacity?

An electrical motor's power can be calculated in a simple manner. To find the total power in watts, multiply the volts by the amps, in this case 120 volts multiplied by 13. 1,620 watts are equal to 5 amps. To get 201,377 watts, you'll need to figure in an average 85% efficiency for electric motors. (It's reasonable to assume that this is a low-cost option.) The cost AC appliance uses a typical AC induction motor with probably more than 80% efficiency, and the manufacturer doesn't claim anything better, but let us give them the benefit of the% ) Then consider that you will always be using this while plugged into an extension cord. Let s say it is the typical $30 14 gauge, 50 foot cord that is common (but be There are 8 horsepower available. If you compare this to the popular Mantis 16-inch tiller, which has a 4-inch blade, the Mantis 16-inch tiller comes out on top. The Honda GX35 gas engine has a stroke length of 1. At 7,000 rpm, the engine produces 3 horsepower. So this is 38% more powerful on paper, but there are a lot of other differences as well. It has a very different tine shape, but having to care for a gas engine and having virtually unlimited portability, vs. an upkeep-friendly There are also significant differences between using a free electrical motor and using one that is connected to a power supply. br>In a nutshell, This is more powerful than its gas competitors in most cases, which is important, but it isn't the only factor to consider.

Has anyone compared the 12 amp and 13 amp models? Is it the one with the five amps? Is it worth it to pay a little more for the 13. A tiller with a 5 amp motor?

We have a lot of clay in our soil in Montana, and when it gets dry, it becomes rock hard. I've got number thirteen. 5 But, to keep it from bouncing around, I weighed it down with a fifty-pound lead weight. It performs admirably even with the added weight.

Is there a variable speed option or is it just on/off?

It has an on/off switch that you hold in your hand while using it. Although there is no variable speed, the trigger switch can be pulsed to turn on and off quickly.

Is 13. Is it possible that 5 amps is too much for a 15 amp circuit?

With a 15A circuit, you'll be fine. The manufacturer recommends a 14/3 (14 gauge 3 conductor) extension cord for up to 50 feet and a 12/3 extension cord for up to 100 feet. Please be aware that the tiller draws the most current when the tines are digging deep in the soil and the motor is bogging down, and it's possible that it will trip the breaker on a 15A circuit if the total length exceeds 100ft.

I'm not sure why there's such a big deal - 11/27/20 EDITED Used to break up some moderately stony soil; after about ten minutes, it stopped working
3/5

I was surprised because it wasn't anything too strenuous. I'm not a fan. br>br>When I contacted Sun Joe, he informed me that my model (13. Because the 5 amp) was out of stock, I had to settle for a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. wait a month and a half for a replacement or use an amp tool 13. 5 amp. Waiting was not a problem for me. A period of six weeks has passed. Over the next six weeks, Sun Joe received three more follow-up emails, all of which were ignored. So I'll be on the lookout for a new tiller for next year. If you don't respond to a 'help' email, it's pointless to have one. br>br>Addendum, November 27, 2020: I recently decided that the warranty period had expired and that I had nothing to lose by opening the tiller's top. One of the electric leads had come loose, and I noticed it right away. I reconnected it and used a small amount of solder to secure it. It was a cinch to use. I should have thought of it sooner, but I guess I was under the impression that the problem would be more serious (and I'm not particularly skilled in this area) - It appears to be a QC problem, but it's fine. br>br>I used the tiller to loosen up a section of my yard in preparation for grass planting this summer. Fantastic tool for light to medium tasks, such as loosening the top 4 inches or so of soil. Tough as nails and thrives in my stony soil. br>br>In order to give the device some sturdiness, I reinforced it with hose clamps, as suggested elsewhere. I can also see how adding ten dollars to the equation would be beneficial. I didn't add 20 pounds to the top because I thought it would help me work deeper and more controllably. br>br>I've given it two more stars for a total of three because it's a fantastic tool for the price, but I'll deduct one star for poor customer service and another for a QC issue. YMMV.

For the price, this is a nice tiller
5/5

Background information: br>First and foremost, I must state that I have never used a roto-molding machine. I've never worked with a tiller before, so I don't know what to expect. I needed to reseed a 50 x 50 area of my lawn that had been overrun by crabgrass, so I bought this item. I purchased a roto-tiller after working with a rake for a short time. To complete the task, you will need a tiller. I prefer gas-powered and high-end equipment in general. However, because I was only going to use it once in a while, I didn't think a gas-powered tiller would be the best choice due to the potential for long-term non-use. use. I made the decision to buy this unit after reading several reviews. br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br>B First, I purchased a 12/3 extension cord with the unit due to the current rating (12 amps). Most extension cords will not be able to handle the current required by this device, and I strongly advise you to avoid using them. The unit comes in three pieces and is easy to put together. The unit's weight is manageable, and most users should have no problems with it. To begin, I'd like to express my admiration for your work. Despite the fact that my yard isn't particularly rocky, cutting through the weeds and compacted soil was a breeze. I began by making the deepest adjustment and quickly realized that it was too much. The unit dug a hole and buried itself with ease. After some tinkering, I discovered a setting that dug a depth of 4 to 6 inches. At this depth, the unit was easy to control. To get through the "mounded" soil created by deeper depths, more effort is required. When the unit did come across rocks, it was able to pull them out with ease. There were a few in the 4"-foot range. 5" range. I'd say the 50' x 50' area took between 45 and 60 minutes to complete. I didn't work nonstop; I took breaks to let the unit cool down and rake back to the area where I had finished previously. Only because other people said their units had "burned out" did I allow the unit to cool. To be honest, I believe this area could have been completed without stopping. Long weeds/grass, on the other hand, do wrap around the shaft. They should be cleared on a regular basis (as shown in the video) to prevent them from cutting into the transmission seal and/or binding the unit. I believe this is what caused the reports of units exploding previously mentioned. Others have suggested that hose clamps be used at the handle connections to stiffen the unit. I used a wrench to tighten my handles, but it wasn't necessary. I gave it five stars not because it's the best tiller ever, but because it performed as well as or better than expected.

Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts, Beast of Beasts   This was delivered the day before yesterday and only took 20 minutes to put together
5/5

I put in an hour yesterday right after I finished putting it together, and I've already put in 30 minutes this morning. The video shows the work that has been done so far this morning. This video clearly demonstrates the power of this tiller. It's moving river rocks as large as small melons. Because there aren't many reviews that demonstrate the power of this tiller, I figured the video would suffice. If your soil is rocky, it will jum up and down. And, while the switch isn't in a bad spot in my opinion, I taped it down so that I could manage it while it was in use. Based on a suggestion from another reviewer, I loaded a cinder block step to help weigh it down. As you can see, I'm a muscular, powerful individual who needs to be manhandled. It was well worth the money I spent!.
