Questions & Answers

In other words, but not the branding, this is the same as How many amps does the Scotts model have? Looks the same and has the same specifications. How does this compare to the first? What is the same about the tines, the motor, and the gearbox?

There is no doubt that they look alike. The Earthwise took hours, days, and digging deep without the red flags of overheating as I struck some pretty stout Texan soil for it. to get an extension cord that can deliver the amps to make the most of the power in the machine. I needed 100 feet of extension cord. A good deal like this is hard to find. This is the Powerzone ORK506735 SJTW Heavy Duty Extension Cord, 14/3, 100 ft, Double, from Walmart. I hope you enjoy it.

Is the tiller able to cut paths of a certain width?

My pleasure, thank you for asking. Whether or not the width is 11 inches or 16 inches is entirely up to the user. It can be extended up to 11 inches if the two outside tines are removed. A Lawn Mower Company promoted by Earthwise/American

Does this work on clay dirt that is more than 95% clay with grass and weed?

My heartfelt thanks go out to you, Fang. It will do a great job at tilling clay soil with the Earthwise TC70016 16 inch Tiller. A Lawn Mower Company promoted by Earthwise/American

What is the price for this in 220 What is the voltage of 240 V?

That's not the case, in my opinion.

The thing I love most about it! He's a monster, for sure! Added an update
3/5

During the second use, the user died. Here's a quick recap of one day in ownage (let's hope things continue well! 1) I do not like this monster. As part of the move, we are clearing an area and leveling a storage unit (which has an aluminum skeleton and a tarp roof and sides). I died after a transmission malfunction on my gas tiller Nevertheless, it got a lot of use over the years). While it was powerful, many times I had to stop and cut down a rock that was caught between the The monster on THESE pages. No matter how large the rock is, it will be thrown to the side. There are tons of rocks in the area where I am working! A simple assembly is required. Since batteries provide electricity, it is, of course, best to run the cord over your back while you are walking and being aware of the distance between the battery and the wall outlet. I have no problem with it. My favorite thing about the POWER is that it gives me energy. I will come back after a few weeks and update this review if anything changes or if I encounter any problems. This is all you need for This is amazing. The money spent on this project was Recent updates After a second use, he died.

I can't believe you broke through my concrete dirt
5/5

In very few cases does something meet your expectations after you purchase it. There is less to be excited about when it exceeds I was surprised by the quality of this tiller! In my 2-year old's school I got an A- For years, I tried to start and run a stroke tiller, but it was fickle, and it would wear me out just trying to get it started. In half of the cases, I would give up and go to a rental place and rent a tiller (which I would have a tough time loading and unloading). As I mentioned last year, this year I decided to check out electric tillers. The unit was purchased after reading reviews on Amazon, watching a few Youtube videos, and watching a few more. In addition, I live in an area of Texas that is suffering from a severe drought, so my soil is hard as rocks. I expected this machine to bounce around and to choke on the first woody plant it hit, but let me tell you that it made short work of There were a few videos in which they taped weights on the top of it or set a bucket of rocks on it to make it heavier? In the next breath, I saw several people pull it backwards through the dirt and have no trouble (I am not a gardener, so perhaps some of you already know how to do this). So, I did the same thing. I am so glad I tried it! It was wonderful to be able to share it! There was never a moment when it looked like it was struggling or acting like it couldn't do the task. You have to keep the cord out of the way to gain access, but even then it is easy to use. The carpet turned my 'concrete' dirt into silk when I went backwards and threw it over my shoulder. As a review writer, I knew that this was not my field, but I told my wife I wanted to write a review. Having a tiller is the best thing in the world. In terms of weight, it is lightweight, but it is not lightweight in terms of This is an incredibly powerful machine! I give it 2 thumbs up! It's time to get this tiller going.

[UPDATE] Still a great alternative to gas, but it's built poorly
5/5

completely failed with just 20 sqft left out In my opinion, and given the rental cost of an equivalent tiller, this is still a win, which is why I purchased a second one and am not changing In order to find out the specific cause of the failure, I performed a postmortem and expected to find a worm gear or worm drive completely Even though the gear was badly worn, it was still fully functional and still would have lasted quite a while. Despite its brand new appearance and no signs of wear, the stainless steel worm drive still looked flawless. We found that a cheap deep groove ball bearing (6200RS type) above the gear was being used to handle far too much stress for its design, a pair of bearings should have been placed both above and below the mating point to handle stresses involved when tilling I detected dirt and small bits of rock in the gear oil, further evidence that the gearbox is not as completely sealed as they may believe. Design choices are disappointing, given that for less than a dollar more per unit they could have made the gearbox a lot more proficient. In spite of this, since I paid less, I got a lot more use than I expected and can restore this at a later date. As a buy, it still seems to be solid. So let me tell you a bit about my experience with a Mantis. I have used it for a few years now, and it has had surprisingly little need for repairs, just what you would expect from a weekly, or monthly. It was recently my decision to lay sod on a 1200 square foot plot of ground. A foot. I have a piece of land that is about half flat and half sloped to 15° on my property. Amidst the Santa Monica mountains, this parcel has remained untouched for nearly a decade as it receives daily sunlight and is baked all day. In the soil below 3 inches there is clay/loam and below 5 inches it is mostly clay. The primary component of rock is hardness Large rocks, some the size of watermelons, cover the soil, which looks like clay. As such, it cannot be considered a friendly environment for a visitor from another country It is a machine used for industrial work. Due to the fact that I wanted to be able to work on this project late into the evening, I chose an electric tiller that is quieter than gas ones. It is going to be very interesting to see what this 13 brings. Having read numerous places that the 5A tiller was not up to par with gas powered predecessors, my expectations weren't as high as they should have been. I can't speak to the longevity of this product, nor can I speak to the quality of the company's customer service however, I've been using it for the past four days for about 5 hours per day, so I can speak to the functionality of the product. With a price less than a third that of a Mantis, this tiller is its equal - in all respects, except price, I mean. When it comes to churning our rock hard soil, we may be better positioned. You should lose any reservations you had about its power, if you are like me. Even though the best of it was yet to come, this tiller has cut its way through it without halt, kicking out stones the size of cantaloupes with ease. has a hard time with the hardest pockets of clay, but the Mantis had no such troubles. I was wrong to see the higher rotational speed as resulting in a lower torque, as I had expected. In loamy soil, the higher speed means I must be extra cautious with this tiller as it digs much faster than the Mantis. I'll tell you the bottom line this tiller works and it works well when you throw it at the toughest soil. Notes on a couple of issues. It is an issue, but not a major issue, so you have to learn to live with it. a lot of simple solutions to this, including something as simple as a long bungee cord attached to the power cable. As for the cord, I prefer to keep it behind me by moving it forward, in small chunks, rather than backward, as doing so keeps the cord behind me. Also, be sure to size your extension cord appropriately for your tiller's amperage. As a second recommended step, I would recommend using hose clamps where the handles are joined together with J-hooks Holds it in place while it bounces - bolts prevent it from coming loose It comes with quite a bit of bounce, due to its higher speed, so you need to Lastly, I think the manufacturer should research ways to substantially reduce vibrations transmitted to the operator by firmly decoupling the tiller from the handle. This is possible, but would require some re-work. I partially achieved it on the Mantis with strategically placed sorbothane, but it wasn't the best solution, which is much easier to do. So that's all I have to say. With this tiller you have all of the advantages of electric power, with the power and strength of gas powered tillers comparable to this size. The only person who tells you otherwise is either not using it or working I will update the current view if anything changes before the project is completed.

I can't believe how much money this tiller saved me! This is amazing
4/5

You can really dig with this thing. As I do not garden, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a tiller, but I wanted one to till up areas of my yard which were prone to erosion and had As a result of reading tons of online reviews, I went ahead and ordered this product. My electric tiller is appealing to me because I have quite a few machines that require regular oil changes and my own gasoline and spark plugs. Electric tillers require no maintenance at all. In the backyard, I dug up the soil down to about 6 inches deep Using this digger, you will be able to dig 8". took a lot of work and was hard on my body, so do not expect to be able to walk behind the rear tine tiller and guide it. In my experience, I found what was suggested in the owners manual to work best. Then parallel to the original direction and the previous Clay that had been hard packed turned into fine pulverized soil when I used it. A bunch of topsoil was then added to my lawn, and it was seeded again. It wouldn't have been so bad had one of the wheels not fallen off, but it's not great since the screw, washer, and hubcap were buried under soil before the wheel fell off, so I hadn't noticed it when it happened. If Earthwise packs a small tube of loctite with the product, it wouldn't likely vibrate loose. Dropping a drop of loctite on each screw should keep the screw from falling out. It should have been secured with loctite. The plan is to replace the screw with a new one from the hardware store and to put it on When the wheel fell off, I was just glad that the tines didn't cut it up. There was a possibility of a more serious issue.
