a spark plug taken from a tune-up I had ordered a make-up kit a few days before I received this one. However, after further dismantling, I discovered that my carburetor was simply too damaged to be concerned about. I bought this kit with the intention of keeping the line and the air filter plug as backups. You really can't go wrong for $15. It wasn't difficult to put everything back in its place. My only issue was that I couldn't prime it properly, but that was due to my own lack of skill. I had the return and main fuel lines switched around. br>br>Only time will tell how well this holds up, but at a fraction of the price of the OEM carburetor, I'm not too concerned. You can do this if you have even a smidgeon of a mechanical bent. I saved $100 by doing it instead of taking my lawn and garden tractor to the mechanic.
All of the components were present and in good condition. Be aware: There are no instructions for either uninstalling or installing the software. Since you're on your own, keep track of where the hoses and attachments are located or take photos of your old carb as a reminder. However, removing the old carb and replacing it is a simple process with few potential pitfalls. The most difficult part of the project was replacing the old rubber grommet with a new one in the hole in the gas tank. It's not the carb replacement people's issue, but it's a tight squeeze. I had no choice but to use my pocket knife to slightly enlarge the hole in the plastic gas tank. That was the last thing I needed to do. The reinstallation of the new carb, on the other hand, was very simple and went off without a hitch. The new carburetor looked fantastic, and it came with all of the necessary components, including a brand new air filter. A replacement primer bulb and a rubber grommet for the gas tank were also included. It started after a few short pulls after I filled the tank with new gas and primed it. This tiller hadn't run in years, and the old gas in the tank smelled putrid (I poured it out before starting the new carb reinstallation). I'm really happy with it. I was on the verge of purchasing a new tiller (4 cycle to avoid issues with 2 cycle gas/oil carbs), but this kit saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you to the seller and the manufacturer.
This kit is a fantastic value for money, but you get what you pay for. There are no instructions or a link to a website included, so you'll have to figure it out on your own. There are plenty of DIY YouTube videos that can help, but you'll have to put in the effort to find them. br>br>There are two things to keep in mind:
1. Both the fuel tank vent and return line hoses are far too long and need to be cut. I imagine they're making this kit for a variety of machines, and some of them might require the longer hoses. I was hoping for a direct replacement, or at the very least, instructions on how to properly install everything.
2. The hoses were already inserted into the larger grommet, which came with two different sizes of grommets. The hoses had to be removed from the large grommet and then forced into the smaller grommet on the Mantis tiller. It was difficult until I discovered that if you can force the hoses at least halfway through the grommet, you can use needle nose pliers to pull the hoses the rest of the way through and out the other side. br>br>Except for the uncertainties caused by the lack of instructions, it was relatively simple to install, and the Mantis now works perfectly.
Fit my Mantis perfectly, but the supplied green gasket had to be enlarged to match the carb port's diameter, as the carb comes with no instructions. The two jets' starting point adjustments are vastly different from the Zama specifications. Zama recommends backing out the jets two turns as a standard starting point, but this carb had severe starting issues. It now works perfectly after I adjusted the jets to about a 1/2 turn out. Also, because the electrode was de-energized, I didn't use the spark plug. centered.
I needed a carb rebuild kit for my Mantis lawn tiller, but the price of these complete kits was so appealing that I chose this option. It was a straightforward and quick swap out. Because my original fuel lines and plug were still in good shape, I only used the carb, carb to manifold gasket, and air filter. It took me no more than ten minutes to complete the swap, and all I needed was a single phillips screwdriver. I only had to make minor adjustments to the high/low needles after the engine started on the third pull. Note: This kit does not include any instructions. It is, however, a simple project for anyone with even basic mechanical knowledge.
It started right up and ran flawlessly. The carb and kit fit my old Mantis tiller perfectly, so we'll see how long it lasts. (SV- 4/B engine) The kit included an extra primer bulb as well as one of each type of fuel tank hose grommet (apparently there are two sizes). I'm all fired up and ready to go. Easy to install (took ten minutes, mostly battling with the old grommet before realizing there was a new one) and incredibly inexpensive.
To refresh, I watched all of the videos on YouTube before installing this kit, and this is my second time replacing the carb, fuel lines, filter, and other components of this tiller with a kit, and the previous kit (from a different seller) worked perfectly. I ordered the entire kit because the tiller had a leak in one of the fuel lines, preventing me from pumping up the primer bulb. I left the old carb in place and installed the new lines, but it still didn't work - I had brand new gas, 2cycle oil, and everything else, but the primer bulb would not fill. After replacing the carburetor with the new one included in the kit, I was able to fuel the primer bulb. That problem was resolved, but the carburetor would not idle at all after the adjustments were made, and when I tried it the way it came, it performed poorly.
