Questions & Answers

How big of a Rubbermaid trough can it heat?

A guess - However, I believe that any size will suffice, as it will take longer to maintain temperature in a larger volume of water. If you're going to heat a pond, you'll most likely have to run it 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What exactly is the composition of the element? It appears to be copper in color. ?

Yes. copper.

"Warning use caged heaters only" is written in raised letters on the side of my 70 gallon rubbermaid stock tank. Were you under the impression that this heater was designed for a Rubbermaid tank?

I don't have a cage around my heater because it's designed for a rubber-made tank, but if I used a drop-in heater, I'd put it in a cage so it wouldn't touch the tank's side or bottom. The tank may be harmed as a result of this.

Even in prolonged sub-zero temperatures, it keeps our tank open
5/5

Temperatures are below zero! After having a large number of the drop-ins, We tried this model because the horses couldn't fling out or eat the cords like they could with other tank heaters of similar wattage. This heater has been a huge success for us. This year, Minnesota has experienced some of the coldest and snowiest days on record, even during our extended periods below zero degrees (f) and minus thirty degrees (f). This heater has kept the tank free despite the wind chills of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This year, I haven't had to break ice even once, whereas it was a daily annoyance with the other units. br>br>I am extremely happy with this tank heater and would recommend it to anyone living in a cold climate. The rubbermaid tank was easy to install and the fit was perfect!.

On arrival, there will be a test
4/5

When you get there, do a quick test. This is the second one we've ordered. The backup was the second one. On a warm day, I placed the first one in the tank. When it got cold outside, we noticed the unit wasn't working and the tank was freezing. The second one was pre-tested and found to be functional, and the return and replacement process was quick and painless. The trick is to make sure the internal thermostat is activated by placing the unit in your freezer for about 10 minutes before testing it. Otherwise, it may appear to be in good working order but will not turn on due to a high internal temperature. I'll now test these in this manner as soon as they arrive to ensure they're in good working order before they've been in my possession for too long and I'll be unable to return them.

A tank heater that isn't working properly
3/5

I'm returning this because my horse was pawing at the ground and refusing to drink, and we discovered that the heater had a short and was causing a mild electrical shock in the water, which my wife discovered while scooping the leaves out of the water trough. Thankfully, she was not electrocuted. Most likely, I received a faulty one. After removing the heater, it appears that the Rubbermaid stock tank has a faulty seal, allowing water to enter and cause a shocking problem. I did place an order for a replacement, which I will flex seal to be safe.

"Installs in all Rubbermaid® stock tanks quickly and easily
3/5

" This will not fit in my Rubbermaid stock tank, which holds 100 gallons. "Installs easily in minutes in all Rubbermaid® stock tanks," according to the description, but the screw-in plug in my tank was at least 1/4" larger. The deceptive description left me very disappointed. In this cold, icy weather, I'm scrambling to find a replacement heater for a tank.

I prefer cageless heaters to caged heaters
5/5

Because it has a smaller configuration than caged heaters, it gets very little hay wrapped around it from the horses. I'm just keeping the box to make sure I don't lose the o- I take it off in the spring and put it back on in the winter, so it rings. I wish the cord was 10 feet long, but I prefer it to caged versions so far. You can leave it attached all year, but horses drink a lot more water from spring to fall, so tie it up so it doesn't get in the way, especially after the dump, scrub, rinse, dump again, and refill process. Personally, I'd rather spend 5 minutes removing and reinstalling. Installation is a breeze.

The thread on the heater does not match the lock ring on the heater or the rubber-made rings. The fact that one is metric and the other is standard makes installation impossible. Don't waste your time on this pathetic nonsense. Yes, I know what I'm doing, and no, I didn't cross thread it. The ring spun perfectly on the original rubbermade plug, but nothing would spin on this heater. The threads appear to be in good condition, not mashed up or anything, but they simply DONT FIT ANYTHING, as if the thread count is off when compared to the rubbermade plug.

It's a great replacement- However, the washers that are provided are never truly functional
4/5

I'm on my third heater element in 25 years. It's great and there aren't any problems with it-- It was simple to put together, but I can't give it five stars because the supplied washers never seem to keep water from leaking out. Even if you're a little short on cash, you can still make a over- tighten it up or do it by hand. There's a steady drip going on. The reason for this is that water seeps through the threads and these washers don't make a good seal with the treads. Store of hardware- Rubber washers purchased from a store are preferable. Now I have to drain and replace them when the weather warms up.

Icing is broken/replacement is satisfactory

The de- It was difficult to install the icer because it kept leaking - Make it tighter or looser as needed. It didn't seem to make a difference. The leak was stopped within 24 hours after it "sat. " This isn't the first time it's happened to me. The water in the tank, on the other hand, was hot enough for me to take a bath in the next morning when I went out. And that was at a temperature of 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Because icers are stiff and hard, they do not provide a good seal. I used softer ones and got a perfect seal the first time around. In terms of electric bills, br>br> This, on the other hand, consumes 1500 watts of power. As a result, you can anticipate an increase in your bill. I turn it on around 11 p. m. and turn it off when the first rays of sunlight appear. Aside from that, there's also a de- I also have two 16-foot ice skates. I've been using a 1500 watt heater in the house for a few hours each day to heat the tanks. My electric bill increased by a factor of two, which is a good thing considering everything I had that required electricity. br>br>It's on the internet. If you'd like to use a de-icer, This one is good, and you can expect an increase in your electric bill as a result.
