Questions & Answers
No, it doesn't work that way. This tape measure is one I would avoid because the locking mechanism is a pain to use and the tape will not stay extended on its own. AVOID.
It had never occurred to me before. but . yes . 12 inches is a good place to start. The numbers range in size from 3/8ths to 3/16ths in height. It's very obvious.

GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE, AND MORE GARBAGE I waited three months to write a review because I wanted to be sure it was correct. DO NOT BUY. br>br> It's a GARBAGE piece of work. br>br>For the construction company I work for, I use a measuring tape all day. It's heavy and appears to be long-lasting, but the spring-loaded spindle inside broke after about 6 weeks, preventing the tape from being reinserted. br>br>Save yourself the trouble. Purchase a more suitable replacement.
I used to have one and really enjoyed it. I bought three more, but none of them seem to lock properly, as the tape often slides back in very slowly. I just tossed one in the trash as well. It was very difficult to pull out once we got to about 23'. I was just over 24 years old when I made this decision. The remainder of the tape was yanked completely out of it at 5'. Garbage!.
I've been looking for a tap measure like this for a long time. My previous one, of a different brand, had just snapped, so I figured I'd have to spend another $25 on a replacement. This Komelon caught my eye, and it not only has a self-stop feature, but also a retract button that won't smack you in the face. For one reason, I gave it four instead of five stars. The packaging is made of hard plastic. This material is made up of layers upon layers, and removing it takes an eternity. To get it out, I had to use scissors and a utility knife. And it was extremely dangerous, as the sharp edges of the plastic and tools could easily have cut me. By the time I was finished, I was completely irritated. The belt clip was the most difficult to remove because it was swathed above it, on the sides, and below it where it was screwed in place. I can't believe this design was created by a moron and approved by other moron. There must be a slew of simpler ways to package this tape measure, such as a cardboard box, but they chose this one. If they don't change the packaging, there's no way I'll buy another when this one wears out. I'd rather pay the extra money than go through the agony of having to open this one.
I began to wonder if there was a design flaw, so I removed the back (three screws) and examined it more closely. The rubber wedge that's supposed to keep the tape in place slipped slightly on one side, which had a tab like the one on the left. I removed the small tab pictured on the right, and it now locks without a hitch! In fact, once it locks, it works even better with no play. br>br>I've had this tape measure for years that kept slipping but eventually broke, so this would be my second purchase. I'm doing the same thing with my 25-foot version. br>br>If it's slipping, cut the tab off the rubber wedge. Even a 10-year-old can modify this tape measure because the mechanism is so simple. I'm not complaining because I now have two working 16-foot tape measures!.
This tape was purchased for its size and weight, as well as the fact that it is an autolocking tape for small jobs. That makes me very happy. It has a nice weight to it and feels good in the hand. br>br>The most important numbers are large and easy to read. A small tape blade is part of having a small, light tape, which means the numbers and other markings are smaller as well. You'll probably be disappointed if you use it for tough jobs and expect a long tape standout and large numbers. If you're looking for a tape that's easy to carry and use for small jobs, this one is a good choice. To me, the autolocking feature alone is worth the tape's price. I really enjoy not having to fiddle with trying to lock a tape, especially when I'm in a hurry.
I don't care how much a tape measure costs; I have several Stanley Leverlocks in my shop, and one of them appears to work properly. I recently received this 16" tape, and it is in excellent condition. I've just ordered two more Komelon tapes, one in Metric and one with fractions, because they're definitely better than the Stanley's did right out of the box, and the Stanley's are four times the price. I'll report back in a few months on how well they hold up under heavy use. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> The tape no longer locks after two days of regular use. Komelon is, to their credit, sending a replacement at no cost. Today I'll be receiving two more models from this company. Let's see how things turn out. br>Recent changes: This time, I got a much better working tape (warranty replacement), and it arrived in three days. The other two tapes I've gotten are fantastic.
There is no way to lock the door. This tape measure does not appeal to me in the least. The tape slides in and out even when "locked," making it impossible to use one-handed or at an angle. If you try to measure something on a wall with the tape, it will unravel completely and fall to the floor in a pile. I'm going to return it and replace it with a regular tape measure with a proper lock.
(Girls, you'll enjoy it as well!) ) Because it's bright green, you're unlikely to misplace this tape measure. The best part is that it stays out without the use of a button. To recall, you must press the button. Here's a link to a video I made about it on YouTube: 25-inch sexy rexy green self-lock tape measure with a foot of force br>br>I'm a big fan of the way it looks. The way it makes you feel. The tape is wide and simple to read. Purchase with confidence.
